PiP is seeking a trustee with diverse skills to deliver an ambitious five-year strategy, supporting adults with learning disabilities. Following significant growth over the last five years, we are now seeking to deepen our support offer, expand the number of people we directly support, and scope how we can influence systems change alongside people with learning disabilities.
Our trustees play a significant role in supporting, guiding, & governing our work. They share collective responsibility for governance, compliance and accountability, while also contributing their individual skills, perspectives and experience to board discussions and decision-making.
Our current Board is diverse in terms of gender, race, age, and experience and this is a strength that we're keen to retain. So, if you're a first-time trustee, have a non-typical background, or have access needs, please do especially consider reaching out to discuss the role with our CEO.
Below outlines the broad criteria that PiP desires from the person who fills this post. We expect that the individual appointed may not meet all the criteria below, and that experience, skills, and understanding of our work may come from many areas including voluntary or lived/caring experience.
As Trustee your primary responsibilities will include:
- Ensure our charity is carrying out its purposes for the public benefit
- Comply with our charity’s governing document and the law
- Act in our charity’s best interests
- Ensure our charity is accountable
- Manage our charity’s resources responsibly
- Act with reasonable care and skill
We’re looking for someone with the following skills & experience:
- Experience in one or more of social care, legal, governance, finance, post-16 education, local knowledge, commercial, or lived experience.
- Good communication skills with the ability to inform and engage a wide range of audiences
- An understanding of the importance of PiP’s work and our person-centred approach to addressing inequalities for adults with learning disabilities
- A willingness to commit time and effort to the development of PIP
- The ability to engage comfortably at all levels
- A commitment to PiP’s values
There are six Board meetings each year, typically held on weekday evenings between 5.00 pm and 7.00 pm. Trustees may like to participate in committees or working groups. The role is voluntary and unpaid, but reasonable expenses, such as travel and caring responsibilities, will be reimbursed.

About the role:
The Zone Plymouth is seeking a Treasurer to join our Board of Trustees. This vital voluntary role provides strategic oversight of the charity’s finances, ensuring robust financial management, transparency, and compliance with charity law and best practice.
The Treasurer will:
- Ensure that The Zone has effective financial management, robust financial controls, and clear financial reporting in line with charity law and best practice.
- Oversee the charity’s financial affairs and ensure they are conducted transparently and sustainably.
- Review the organisation’s budgets and other financial documents and policies, ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements and present clear explanations to the Board.
- Monitor financial risk and contribute to the charity’s overall risk management framework, including reserves and investment policies.
- Liaise with external auditors/independent examiners and support the preparation and approval of annual accounts.
- Advise the Board on the financial implications of strategic plans, new projects, funding opportunities, and income diversification.
- Support the development of sustainable funding models and contribute to discussions on fundraising and income generation.
- Ensure that financial decision-making reflects The Zone’s values, commitment to best value, and accountability to funders, young people, and the wider community.
- Act as a key member of the trustee team, contributing to effective governance and long-term strategic planning.
- Attend Board meetings (typically 6 per year).
Ideal candidate:
We’re looking for someone with strong financial experience and literacy, sound judgment, and a commitment to The Zone’s mission. Experience as a trustee or in charity governance is desirable but not essential. Local knowledge of Plymouth or the surrounding area is advantageous.

The opportunity
Queen Alexandra Charity is pleased to offer you the chance to help ensure that the quality of our college, community services and supported living provision is as it should be, or better. As a co-optee to our Services Committee, you can help ensure that our students and clients receive the best support possible and we comply with requirements.
The commitment
At present, the Services Committee meets four times each year, for up to three hours each time. While we keep timing under review in the light of changing membership, this year's meetings have started at 2.00pm and all of them have been virtual. Of course, you would also need to prepare for meetings by reading papers. Co-optees also attend annual appraisal and are invited to our annual governance strategy days. For these roles, how far away you live from us is not important over time. However, we know that you would want to come on site at least at the start, to get to know us and what we do.
What we are seeking
We seek interest from people who can digest sometimes large amounts of reading and challenge the executive, and governing colleagues, on whether we are performign as well as we should. So as well as being analytical, applicants will need the necessary confidence to contribute during meetings actively and, sometimes, to defend their viewpoint. We welcome anyone with these skills but, right now, but we especially need to add to our expertise in education (especially specialist further education) and care.

In addition to community services and supported living for adults, we run the Queen Alexandra College with 480 specialist further education places for people who have a diverse range of abilities and plans to grow to 700.

As finance lead trustee, you’ll lead the development and review of the charity’s financial plan and its investment strategy, manage investment funds and deposit accounts and support and advise the trustee board on investment and finance matters, including financial compliance. You’ll also undertake some treasurer responsibilities by preparing and maintaining accounting records, financial reports and annual financial statements.
We are looking for an individual with experience leading the financial management of an SME or division of a medium to large organisation. You will bring good independent judgement and strategic vision, whilst offering support and challenge to the board.
Trustee with governance & compliance experience
As governance & compliance lead trustee, you’ll support and advise the trustee board on governance and risk management. You will lead on risk management for the charity and on policy development and review. You’ll also undertake some secretary responsibilities, ensuring compliance with our constitution, charity law and regulations.
We are looking for an individual with experience in leading on governance, compliance or company secretarial duties in a commercial or not for profit setting, who has some knowledge of UK charity law and best practice and, if not current, readiness to learn and develop. This person could bring experience as a company secretary, legal, board secretary or risk and compliance/governance professional.
Our trustees are passionate about countryside protection. You will bring strong communication skills, the ability to work collaboratively and a commitment to our charitable aims. Previous trustee experience is not required as we provide comprehensive training and support.

We’re part of the Royal Air Force Air Cadets, a national youth organisation empowering 12- to 20-year-olds through flying, adventure training, sports, and leadership development.
West Mercian Wing supports over 900 cadets across 27 squadrons in Herefordshire, Worcestershire, Shropshire, the Black Country, and Cyprus. Each squadron is supported by a committee of trustees who oversee governance, fundraising, and community engagement, helping ensure incredible opportunities for young people.
What’s involved
Being a trustee is a simple but highly impactful way to support your local squadron:
- Attend quarterly meetings (around two hours each)
- Discuss finances, fundraising, priorities, and squadron activities
- Take part in decisions, especially financial and strategic matters
- Support events, networking, or community initiatives
Typical commitment: 8-12 hours per year.
Who we’re looking for
Trustees come from all walks of life. No military, youth work, or charity experience is required. Trustees actively participate in meetings and decisions – there’s no obligation to take on an elected role.
Eligibility:
- Must be 20 years or older.
- Must have lived in the UK for 3 or more years.
Useful skills (optional but welcomed):
- Finance, budgeting, or business management
- Fundraising or grant writing
- Event planning or project management
- Governance, committee, or leadership experience
- Local networks or community connections
We particularly welcome:
- Applicants from under-represented communities.

We provide a range of services, including support for vulnerable groups, community events, educational programmes, and initiatives to tackle social isolation and disadvantage. Our mission is to create a thriving, inclusive, and resilient community for all.
Our BD4 Family project works to help families to come together to learn, share and grow, where they can feel safe to enjoy quality time together and access encouragement and support when needed. The groups we run support the needs of our ever-expanding community by really listening to families and encouraging them to be part of our decision making and offering opportunities to volunteer and get involved.
Gems has been running since 1983 and works with the older members of our community delivering a variety of activities each week with additional activities at times throughout the year. The project provides opportunities for older people to make friends, participate in healthy activities, enjoy a nutritional meal, and enjoy the occasional day trip out.
Role of a Trustee
As a trustee, you will:
- Contribute to the strategic direction of the charity.
- Ensure that BD4 Community Trust remains financially sustainable.
- Provide support and oversight to the charity’s staff and volunteers.
- Help build partnerships with other community organisations, local authorities, and stakeholders.
- Ensure that the charity complies with all legal and regulatory requirements.
- Bring your skills, experience, and enthusiasm to help us grow and achieve our mission.
Who We're Looking For
We are seeking individuals with a variety of skills and experiences, including (but not limited to):
- Leadership and governance experience.
- Knowledge of community development or charitable work.
- Financial or legal expertise.
- Strong communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Passion for improving the lives of those in the BD4 community.
We welcome applicants from all backgrounds and encourage diversity in our board. Whether you have experience in the third sector, business, education, or other fields, your unique perspective will be invaluable to our work.
Time Commitment
- Trustees are expected to attend quarterly Board meetings (approximately 2 hours per meeting on an evening).

THE DETAILS
Feeling Strong is an exciting Dundee-based charity with the ambition to improve the lives of young people living with mental health and wellbeing challenges by fostering the skills, confidence and aspirations they need to flourish. Our services are designed by young people, delivered by young people for the benefit of young people, and we believe that this youth-led/peer-led approach is our biggest asset in tackling issues around mental health and wellbeing. We support stable recovery journeys for young people, lead campaigns to tackle societal issues, develop quality resources based on our own research, and tackle the disparity they face in unemployment, underemployment and accessing opportunities like further and higher education.
YOUR COMMITMENT
Whilst the Trustee Board meets for formal meetings 6 times a year, successful candidates will be expected to contribute to the organisation more widely, taking part in fundraisers, external events, strategic planning and advising the staff team when needed. The average contribution expected of Trustees is around one - two hours per month.
Work-related travel costs will be reimbursed.
