Could you spare a few hours each week to help us sell donated items online and raise vital funds for the hospice?

We need volunteers to help us sell donated items online by taking pictures, researching the product online, writing a clear description, and uploading the listing to sites like eBay, Vinted, and DePop. 

We welcome volunteers from all backgrounds, and you will receive full training and support, as well as agreed out-of-pocket expenses (reimbursed within our guidelines).

At Greenwich & Bexley Community Hospice, we are dedicated to providing free, high quality, compassionate care and support for people with terminal illnesses, their families and their professional carers.

We provide holistic care that goes beyond physical needs – offering spiritual, social and psychological care, advice and support wherever needed. We also support and educate healthcare professionals to deliver high quality, individualised and co-ordinated care to people with all terminal illnesses.

We receive only around a third of our funding from the NHS. That means we need to fundraise £5m every year from local people, businesses and organisations to continue to fund our services.

Off the Record is a well-established and respected support agency for children and young people’s mental health and emotional wellbeing. Founded in 1994, OTR supports young people aged 11-25 in Croydon, Sutton and Merton.

What will you be doing?

We are currently looking for new Trustees with a fund-raising ability, legal expertise, financial expertise and with experience of working within the mental health field.

We will organise for you to attend a training workshop in Governance at the beginning of your time with us. 

Time commitment: 

The Board meets five times a year, collaborating with the Directors to oversee the strategic direction of the organisation as well as taking care of the Charity’s financial, legal and employment responsibilities. These in-person meetings are held in Croydon on Saturdays from 10:00 to 12:30. Additionally, trustees are encouraged to participate in two Charity days annually, held on Saturdays, where all staff get together (10:00 to 16:00 in April and October). 

Some ad-hoc communications via email/telephone/Teams as required i.e., working on specific projects related to the trustees’ area of expertise. We estimate that this could be 3 – 6 hours a month.

• By becoming a mentor with Unfold, you will be supporting those who often face exclusion, this as, although we are open to everyone, 93% of our service users are from racialised groups, 60% of our referrals come from other supporting service and we have also adapted our services to support Afghan evacuees
• With the opportunity to be a mentor for a young person on our Asylum Seeker programme, you will be a welcoming and reliable person of support in often difficult and challenging times, supporting the navigation of achieving goals in new environment. 
• With 89% of the young people we work with saying that having a mentor has improved their life, your skills and experiences are needed and will have a positive impact.

Commitment

• We ask volunteers to commit to delivering mentoring1–2-hour a week, over a period of 24 sessions. Through mentee and mentor testimonies we have seen the positive impact holding sessions in person vs online has, and so we would ask any perspective volunteers to be prepared to be available for all in person session should this be the required need of your mentee.
• Attend monthly online group supervisions held weekday evenings. Supervisions are a great place to meet other mentors, share skills and ideas around mentoring, hear from organisation who can enhance your mentoring experience as well get support with the challenges you may face.

Training

• We provide training based in positive psychology building skills that are transferrable, such as empathic leadership, coaching-style approaches, the growth mindset, mentoring, inclusion and more and an additional 1 hour training for mentors supporting asylum seekers. 
• Throughout your mentoring journey, we’re always on hand to help, with ongoing support from a designated Programme Officer, as well as a range of tailored resources.

Background checks

• A DBS check is required.

Pupils in a pupil referral unit have been permanently or temporarily removed from their mainstream school due to different challenges, often resulting in experiencing one or more of the following; low self esteem, low attainment levels, friendship breakdown, feeling misunderstood and lacking in purpose, direction and motivation. In addition, they are often experiencing/experienced family breakdown, peer pressure, rebellious behaviour, family issues and concerns or bulling. 
As mentor to a young person between the ages of 11-16, you will meet together on a weekly basis initially at your mentees school, encouraging and motivating your mentee to make steps towards positive change.

Often faced with the increase likelihood of challenges experienced due to being in a pupil referral unit, trained in positive psychology and coaching style techniques by Unfold, you will inspire your mentor to see challenges as opportunity, broadening their horizons as to what they can achieve.

What impact will this have?

We have seen positive change in the lives of young people through our mentoring. We have seen young people’s confidence increase, changes in future aspirations, positive and healthy relationships being built, a new outlook on life and beautiful smiles. 

Commitment

You will have a total of 24 weekly sessions of around 1-2 hours, meetting during school hours, in most cases, for a minimum of 4 weeks. The programme is designed for sessions to begin within school whilst you build a relationship with your mentee,  sessions  will then aim to be held outside of school hours, and depending on the need of your mentee, sessions may then be in person, virtually or a mixture of both. Through mentee and mentor testimonies we have seen the positive impact holding sessions in person vs online has, and so we would ask any perspective volunteers to be prepared to be available for all in person session should this be the required need of your mentee.

Attending monthly group online supervision sessions, 6:00-7:00pm every second Thursday of the month. Our group supervision sessions delivered by Unfold staff provide a space for further training, sharing of opportunities and a space for mentors to support each other through their mentoring journeys.

Training

• Through our comprehensive training and ongoing support, you will develop skills in positive psychology and coaching style techniques, cover topics including safeguarding, confidentiality, the person-centred approach and the growth mindset all of which will help you to effectively support someone to making steps towards positive change.
• Mentors have a designated Programme Officer, offering 1-2-1 support when you need it.

• You will need to welcome supporting young people with a wide range of abilities and from a range of diversities..

Mentors for Women provide emotional, social and practical support to women with children aged 5 and up, either online or face to face.
Asa mentor you will 

• Empower women to identify changes they wish to make and goals they wish to achieve. 
• Over 12 to 24 weekly sessions, offer coaching style support to women to help them achieve their goals and get them where they want to be. 
• Provide a listening ear and talk thorough the challenges women face. 
• Support women to make social connections with their local community or groups, refer and signpost them to other organisations providing more specialist support if needed.

What impact will this have?

Your mentoring will help women break cycles of social isolation, improve family cohesion, and wellbeing by providing support in a wide range of issues.
By being part of the Unfold mentor family you will be helping us to have greater reach in making a positive impact in the lives of many vulnerable families and young people, living in Westminster.

Commitment

• We ask volunteers to commit to delivering mentoring for  1–2-hours a week, over a period of 24 in person sessions. Although occasionally session are held online, through mentee and mentor testimonies we have seen the positive impact holding sessions in person vs online has, and so we would ask any perspective volunteers to be prepared to be available for all in person session should this be the required need of your mentee.

• Mentors for Refugees will empower women to overcome challenging circumstances and help them find ways to connect and integrate with their local community.
• Mentors will support women to make social connections with the local community and groups, refer and signpost them to other organisations providing more specialist support if needed.
• Mentors will provide a safe space to discuss the challenges women face. Through encouragement and active listening, mentors will support their mentees’ mental wellbeing.

On Sunday 12th May, The Passage will be having our first ever Walk to End Homelessness in Battersea Park. There will be three different distances around the park to choose from, 2.5km, 5km, or 10km, all of which are wheelchair and pushchair accessible. Our event village around the Battersea Bandstand will open at 11am, with entertainment and refreshments, and the walk will begin at 12pm.

About this role 

As a route marshal for our Walk to End Homelessness, you will be helping ensure the safety and smooth flow of the event. You will be positioned along one of the three routes in Battersea Park to guide our walkers, provide directions, and offer assistance or support if needed. You may also need to communicate with the Volunteer Manager to report any issues that might arise during the walk. Overall, your responsibility will be to ensure that our participants have an enjoyable and safe experience during the Walk to End Homelessness, collectively supporting those facing or at risk of homelessness in London as a community. 

 You will be one of 8 Route Marshalls and be supervised by the Volunteer Manager.

 Main Duties:

• Guiding walkers along the designated routes in Battersea Park
• Providing directions and answering questions from walkers
• Reporting any issues to the Volunteer Manager
• Offering support and encouragement to walkers
• Maintaining a positive and friendly attitude throughout the event

 Desired Qualities:

• Aged 18 or over
• Great punctuality
• Good communication with the walkers and other volunteers
• Comfortable standing for extended periods
• An inclusive and non-judgmental attitude

We harness the power of engineering and design to develop sustainable solutions for development. There are far too many people in the world living in sub-standard conditions with a poor quality of life. As world inequality increases, people are becoming further and further divided. One of the reasons for this is that there are not enough resources for innovation and development of new solutions. Our goal is to address the key challenges of poverty and inequality facing millions of people around the world. At Minazi, we harness the power of engineering and design to develop innovative solutions for sustainable development, in this way, projects at Minazi are a catalyst for social change.

COMMUNICATIONS AND ENGAGEMENT

• Manage social media and engagement content on LinkedIn; develop strategic communications plans; work with business units and internal stakeholders to ensure the website is up to date; write insight articles on LinkedIn/Website, amongst other duties.
• Volunteer 4-6 hours weekly remotely for 6 months.

Coding with CodeX work to make sure that anyone can have access to high quality coding and tech education. They have 3 beneficiary groups - people with autism, women in tech & people from low socioeconomic backgrounds.With coding and tech skills being increasingly important in the the workplace. The current solutions for education in place aren't effective enough.For young people schools are regularly having to cancel computing lessons, and that is only worsened when meeting the educational needs of those who are SEND. For adults, though you have platforms such as Youtube, that isn't a one size-fits all. And we know that it doesn't cater to all ability types. But then when you look at tech training programs typically they require a large financial investment & time commitment that isn't accessible to everyone.

Ensuring that all their content is ASC friendly, Coding with CodeX has taught 8,000 people to date. Ranging from the children in some of the poorest schools in Nottinghamshire to employees at companies such as Bank of America, KPMG and more. All their staff are specially trained to teach individuals who are SEND. For young learners they run programs such as our half term code camp, where they give their beginners python course away for free. Working with schools, charities, community groups and local authorities to ensure the next generation are equipped with the digital skills to thrive in the world of work.
