Trustee Tenure: 4-year term – maximum 3 terms
Regularity: 9 meetings a year + additional opportunities
Location: The Wolseley Centre, Wolseley Bridge, Stafford, ST17 0WT
We are seeking a forward-thinking and inclusive Trustee to join the Board and work towards assuming the role of the Board’s Honorary Secretary and help lead us on our journey.
The Honorary Secretary will be able to combine personal humility with an urgency to achieve the mission of Staffordshire Wildlife Trust and the drive to invest in ongoing organisational development. They will be able to demonstrate servant leadership and be able to unite and inspire our movement behind our collective vision.
Embodying the culture of The Wildlife Trusts, the Honorary Secretary will work with the Chair and the Board to advance and grow the reputation of Staffordshire Wildlife Trust as an organisation of excellence that can inspire collective leadership throughout its movement and beyond, in the wider world.
This can be a demanding, yet rewarding role, suited to someone who is able to navigate through complex relationships and communicate well at all levels. Being able to motivate and bring people on a journey is a must.
This is a role that is elected to annually by the Board of trustees.
The role of our Trustees is varied and stimulating. You will be bringing your expertise, experience and passion to help lead a dynamic, multi-functional, multi-specialist organisation.

A registered charity established in 1969 and is one of 46 county Wildlife Trusts throughout the UK and is supported by over 19,000 members.
The Trust owns or manages 45 nature reserves covering an area of over 1947 hectares. Our circa130 staff are based in six locations around the county including our Headquarters at Wolseley Bridge, Stafford, with our work divided up into five departments: Conservation Delivery, Engagement, Marketing & Activism, Fundraising, Membership & Resources, HR & Support Services and Commercial. The Trust has a diverse workforce including site wardens, wildlife surveyors, community and education officers, catering, retail and administration.
In addition, we have a trading company which looks after the trading side of our business. This includes a café at The Wolseley Centre, charity shops in Leek, Penkridge and Codsall and a retail shop in the Wolseley Centre.

About The Role
At tWWT we believe that the best way for people to understand and connect to wetlands is to experience them. Your role will bring awe-inspiring nature up close, directly shaping our visitors’ unforgettable experiences. We are looking for a friendly, outgoing person who can provide a warm welcome and interact with visitors through the use of props and talks.
About You
No previous experience is required as training will be provided. However this role will suit you if you have a love of wildlife and the outdoors and are:
- Confident or experienced in talking to the public
- Able to work in a team of staff and volunteers
- Experienced in a visitor service environment with a strong commitment to excellent customer service
- Experience in canoeing is an advantage if you are interested in that role

Touch Wood is a wood recycling and upcycling initiative, which collects surplus and waste wood and timber and gives it a new lease of life, preventing it from being burned, chipped, or dumped in landfill.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
* Preparing wood for resale
* Assisting with the construction of wooden products, from small household items to pieces of furniture
Our Touch Wood volunteers are able to gain skills in practical woodworking, as we offer hands-on experience of working with reclaimed timber; from making basic lumber products ready for resale, through to assisting with the creation of bespoke items, such as kitchen equipment and home and garden furniture.
Full training in woodworking and health and safety is provided, along with Personal Protection Equipment.
The UK generates around 5 million tonnes of wood waste every year, but less than 1% is reused. Touch Wood rescues waste timber that would otherwise be landfilled or turned into woodchip; creating jobs and training opportunities for disadvantaged local people at the same time. We collect from construction sites, industrial estates and other commercial sources, reclaiming everything from pallets to indoor cycle tracks – you name it, we take it! Anything we can’t reuse is locally recycled, so nothing goes to waste. This reduces the carbon emissions associated with disposing of waste wood, offers cost savings for DIY enthusiasts, and provides training and job potential to volunteers in the workshop. Some of the timber we work with comes from high profile sources, including the entire track of the Manchester Velodrome cycling centre and wood removed in the recent refurbishment of Manchester’s historic Town Hall!
Our skilled team of staff and volunteers often use reclaimed timber to create beautiful and practical products, such as home and garden furniture. We regularly create bespoke pieces to order; some of it for famous clients like Olympic cycling champions Jason and Laura Kenny, for whom we made a table from the Manchester Velodrome track.
Please be advised that our volunteers require a fair level of physical fitness and manual dexterity as the role is entirely practical.
Our Touch Wood workshop and wood store is open Mon-Fri, 8.30am - 4pm.
We occupy a unit at Maynard House, inside New Smithfield Market, in Openshaw, North Manchester, which is accessed from the main entrance on Whitworth Street East (off Ashton Old Road). The site is served well by buses, and we have free parking onsite, as well as secure storage racks for pushbikes.
IMPORTANT NOTE:
You must be resident in the UK and living in Greater Manchester, or within easy commuting distance of our base, in order to volunteer with us. There are no exceptions to this rule. FareShare Greater Manchester is looking for volunteer Driver's Assistants to join our busy friendly delivery team with redistributing tonnes of surplus food a month to charities and community initiatives across Greater Manchester.
FareShare is a national charity fighting food poverty and global warming by tackling food surplus. We source overstocked food from retailers and manufacturers and engage many volunteers to help re-distribute it to over 220 frontline charities and community groups across Greater Manchester. These groups, in turn, provide meals to vulnerable people experiencing food poverty, individuals who are homeless, families, and people who are unemployed or socially isolated. This food would otherwise have gone to waste, so we are simultaneously supporting people in need and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
Key responsibilities
Working closely with the driver of a temperature-controlled 3.5 tonne Mercedes Sprinter van to deliver surplus food orders to the premises of the benevolent projects we support.
Loading and unloading the vehicle and carrying out a range of tasks, from basic vehicle checks to delivery administration.

Have good verbal communication skills.

Volunteers receive access to our sites, and discounts in our shops and cafes. Some roles include a uniform or require the use of equipment or protective clothing. About The Role
Volunteers are integral to the running of our Welney reserve and visitor centre and without their help we wouldn’t be able to welcome our visitors to this amazing 1300 acre wetland of international importance. Our volunteer team are friendly and committed, and say they benefit by gaining new experiences, meeting new people and sharing the story of our work.
At WWT Welney Wetland Centre we want to ensure that our visitors receive a warm, friendly welcome to ensure they have a memorable visit to our Visitor Centre and Reserve. In this role, you will be helping to bring people of all ages and backgrounds closer to wetland wildlife, by providing assistance for visitors to explore the reserve and learn about WWT’s pioneering wetland conservation work, to save wetlands for wildlife and people. In this role you will support the delivery of a range of interactive visitor engagement activities, including guided walks, and other seasonal activities, drawing people in by telling engaging stories about our work and inspiring people to support us as members of the WWT.
On a day-to-day basis, you’ll be answering visitor questions, helping them to navigate the reserve, and identifying basic wildlife. You'll get regular briefings to keep you up to date with what's going on at the centre, and we can offer coaching to help you feel more confident talking to our visitors and leading guided activities.

CPRE Buckinghamshire (part of CPRE – The Countryside Charity) is looking for a Trustee with a background, or strong interest, in the local farming community. This Trustee will take the lead in our campaign to support sustainable farming and agricultural practices, and will help us to partner with relevant groups, with the aim of enhancing and protecting Buckinghamshire’s wildlife and countryside.
This volunteer role would suit someone living or studying in Buckinghamshire who would like to be involved in campaigning and sharing their expertise with other Trustees, volunteers and members of CPRE.
You will ideally have experience of, or a deep interest in, sustainable farming, and agricultural practices that ensure food production without compromising the environment or future generations' ability to meet their needs. Your expertise will help us to demonstrate how farming today can focus on reducing its impact on ecosystems, can promote biodiversity, and can minimise energy use.
As a Trustee, you will also be part of our small and collaborative Trustee board. You will help to deliver our strategy, vision and mission, and guide the future direction of CPRE Buckinghamshire. Along with the other Trustees, you will ensure that the charity has the necessary policies and resources, complies with legal requirements, and adheres to its governing document.
This is a volunteer team that typically works remotely, though some occasional face-to-face meetings may occur when needed – we will pay expenses in these instances. We estimate that the commitment would be around 2–3 hours a week, but you can of course do more if you wish!

We're looking for friendly, welcoming people to help in our café and make that experience a great one.
In this role, you will be:
- Serving our visitors light meals, snacks and drinks
- Helping keeping our café tables clear, clean and free for use
- Engaging with our visitors, directing them to our seasonal highlights and daily talks, helping them to make the most of their visit
- Supporting behind-the-scenes with tasks such as washing up and sorting deliveries - keeping us on track
- Helping with food displays- helping visitors to make those tricky choices!

Would you like to become a Trustee?
Each year we seek new volunteers to join our board of trustees, bringing with them the skills and experience we need to work for a better future for nature, people and the green spaces we all love across Rotherham and Sheffield.
As well as an enthusiasm and passion for our work, we are looking for people with the skills to help govern the Trust.Experience of working in a decision-making group is very helpful as well as a good local knowledge of Rotherham and/or Sheffield. You would need to be able to commit to attending our Annual General Meeting (held in October) and at least four board meetings per year, which require some preparatory work..
This year we are especially keen to hear from people:
- Have expertise in strategic HR, staff health & wellbeing support
- Commercial, business acumen, profit for purpose experience (with reference to our consultancy)
- Have a good knowledge of communities and/or natural environment in Rotherham
- Can represent more of our diverse community in Sheffield & Rotherham

About The Role
At Washington you will be involved first hand are in assisting the collection team in maintaining and developing exhibits within the site at Washington to enhance the visitor experience.
This involves helping the Collection team to care for our large collection of rare and endangered species of waterfowl from around the world as well as wetland mammals.
Conducting public talks with our otters and Flamingos is also an important part of the role. Helping the team to inspire our visitors by the work we do and also showing them how they can get involved.
Why volunteer with us? We have one of the largest waterfowl collections in the North East, with over 40 species, 15 of which are of Conservation Concern, including the current flock of 56 breeding Chilean Flamingos and a pair of Asian Short-clawed Otters. Previous volunteers have gone on to work in animal conservation work around the world.
We are currently looking for volunteers that can help us on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays or Sundays. We ask that you can commit a minimum of 6 months to get the most from your role. You must be over 18 to apply for this role.

- Some practical experience in animal care would be desirable
- Able to follow instructions and safely complete activities alone or as part of a team
- Good people skills
- Public speaking skills desirable
- Physical fitness and the ability to lift heavy loads
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather
- Driving licence is desirable

- You need to be over 18 years old for this role.

About Filling Good
Filling Good is a community-led sustainable retail community benefit society on a mission to reduce waste, promote ethical consumption, and support local, eco-conscious producers. Based in Maidenhead, we are passionate about empowering our members and customers to live more sustainably. As a co-operative, we are owned and governed by our members and guided by values of fairness, transparency, and social impact.
The Role
We are seeking a new Chair of the Board to provide strategic leadership, ensure good governance, and support the long-term sustainability and growth of Filling Good. This is a rewarding opportunity to lead a purpose-driven organisation making real environmental and social change at the local level.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership

Guide the Board in setting and reviewing strategic goals.

Lead an annual strategy workshop (e.g. SWOT analysis, SMART goal setting).

Ensure consistent progress tracking against the co-operative’s strategic plan.
Governance Oversight
-
Chair Board meetings with clear agendas and effective timekeeping.

Ensure compliance with legal, food safety, and risk management requirements.

Support transparent communication with members and foster a shared understanding of priorities.
Operational Support
-
Act as a point of contact and line management for senior staff (e.g.Senior Retail Manager).

Hold annual informal reviews with key volunteers to set goals and offer support.
-
Monitor key performance indicators, financial updates, and operational risks.
Board & Team Development
-
Facilitate reviews for individual directors and the Board as a whole.
-
Support the ongoing learning and development of Board members.

Represent Filling Good at events and within the wider co-operative and sustainability sectors.
About You
We’re looking for someone who:

Brings leadership experience and a collaborative, facilitative approach

Understands or is keen to learn about co-operative governance

Is passionate about sustainability, social impact, and ethical retail

Can commit time and energy to support a growing, purpose-led organisation

Is diplomatic, organised, and a great communicator
Experience in strategy, governance, HR, or ethical business is desirable but not essential.
