At Happy Baby Community, we provide safe and resilient communities for pregnant women and women with young children who have fled war, violence and traffickers and are seeking asylum in the UK. We want to make sure we protect and empower each other, through shared knowledge and understanding. We meet to learn from one another and to feel strong and supported - able to work, study, volunteer, and help others in need.

We are looking for online English teachers to join our vibrant team! 

HBC offers online English classes using Zoom on Wednesdays and Fridays 10am-1pm UK time. Classes run for about 45 minutes, offering L0- literacy, L1-Beginner, L2- Elementary and L3- Intermediate. We also do some one-one literacy tutoring. The classes start on the hour. Some of our teachers teach multiple classes and some only teach one depending on their availability. As an online English teacher, your responsibilities will include preparing and delivering lessons to improve students' reading, writing, and speaking skills.

We are looking for female volunteers with the following desired criteria:

• Experience teaching ESOL
• Teaching qualification
• Familiarity/experience with Zoom
• Passion to teach
• Weekday availability

Job description

The Plateful Café works to relieve poverty amongst refugees in Lewisham. As a small charity, it is important to share information and updates through our communications and social media content, to help us fundraise and grow. 

What will you be doing?

• Leading on one of our social media channels (currently Facebook, Instagram, Twitter or LinkedIn)
• Producing occasional blog posts (minimum one per quarter except LinkedIn lead who will do one per month) on topics related to Plateful Café including research and interviews. 
• Recording social media analytics on a weekly basis
• Identifying potential content and opportunities
• Adding ideas to the content planner
• Postings and scheduling content
• Attendance at team catch-ups virtually/phone 
• Ad-hoc attendance at events and markets
• Other duties in line with the role description

Requirements:

• Excellent communication skills in fluent English
• Has 3+ years experience of social media, copywriting, journalism, blog content creation, interviewing or similar skills (this does not have to include published work)
• Able to create interesting and engaging content
• Good computer skills
• Good time management skills
• Engaging and friendly
• Good team player

Desirable:

• Basic digital photography and editing skills
• An interest in supporting refugees and contributing to the work of Plateful Cafe
• Experience of working with refugees, people seeking asylum, vulnerable groups or lived experience
• Lives in London with ability to attend events and markets

Welfare volunteers with experience in social work required to help asylum seekers access basic rights and support

As the Head of Family and Youth, you will oversee the planning, coordination, and delivery of activities for children, youth and families at Pride Cymru events. You will be an essential part of creating a welcoming and safe space for families to participate in Pride Cymru.

Duties and responsibilities:

• Build and maintain strong relationships with community organisations, schools, youth groups, and family support networks to enhance collaboration and outreach efforts.

• Develop new partnership opportunities and support positive partnership working

• Oversee the planning and execution of family-friendly activities and youth-focused events during Pride Cymru festivals and other community gatherings.

• Ensure that events are accessible, inclusive, and engaging for participants of all ages.

Skills and experience

Due to the nature of this role, the successful candidate must hold a valid DBS with the DBS Update Service before conducting any work with Pride Cymru.

• Enthusiasm for creating a family-friendly environment within the LGBTQ+ community.

• Previous experience working with children, youth, and families in a community-based or nonprofit setting, with a focus on LGBTQ+ issues and advocacy.

• Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire and motivate staff, volunteers, and community members.

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships and collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.

The Head of Markets plays a pivotal role in managing the market spaces at Pride Cymru events, ensuring a vibrant and diverse marketplace that reflects the organisation's values and supports LGBTQ+ businesses, and community organisations. This position requires strong leadership, strategic planning, and relationship-building skills to create successful market experiences for attendees and vendors alike.

Duties and responsibilities:

• Select and coordinate vendors, artisans, businesses, and community organisations to participate in the market, ensuring a diverse and inclusive representation of LGBTQ+ and allied interests.

• Foster positive relationships with vendors, addressing their needs, concerns, and feedback to enhance their experience and maximise their success.

• Oversee logistical aspects of market operations, including vendor placement, booth assignments, load-in/load-out procedures, and traffic flow.

Skills and experience

• Experience in market management, event planning, or vendor relations, preferably in a festival or large-scale event setting.

• Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate and collaborate with diverse teams and stakeholders.

The Head of Community Engagement is an exciting role focusing on fostering meaningful connections, collaboration, and support within the LGBTQ+ community and its allies. This position leads efforts to engage community members, organisations, and stakeholders, ensuring that Pride Cymru initiatives are inclusive, impactful, and reflective of community needs and aspirations.

Duties and responsibilities:

• Develop and implement strategies for engaging with diverse LGBTQ+ communities, organisations, groups, and individuals across Wales.

• Build and nurture relationships with community leaders, activists, advocates, and stakeholders to foster collaboration and partnership opportunities.

• Seek opportunities for collaboration and partnership to maximise impact and reach.

• Oversee and cultivate partnerships with organisations responsible for managing spaces during Pride Cymru events.

Skills and experience

• Proven experience in community engagement, activism, or advocacy, preferably within the LGBTQ+ community or related social justice movements.

• Strong leadership, communication, and relationship-building skills, with the ability to inspire and mobilise diverse communities and stakeholders.

As the Head of Sustainability you will lead Pride Cymru’s efforts to integrate sustainability principles and practices into all aspects of its operations and events. This position is responsible for developing and implementing strategies to minimise environmental impact, promote social responsibility, and enhance the organisation's commitment to sustainability.

Duties and responsibilities:

• Lead efforts to minimise the environmental impact of Pride Cymru events and operations.

• Identify key sustainability priorities, targets, and performance indicators to measure progress and impact.

• Build and maintain partnerships with local organisations, businesses, government agencies, and community groups to advance sustainability initiatives and leverage resources.

• Collaborate with vendors, suppliers, and sponsors to promote sustainable products, services, and practices.

• Lead by example and champion sustainability principles in decision-making, planning, and operations.

Skills and experience

• Proven experience in developing and implementing sustainability strategies and initiatives, preferably in the events or nonprofit sector.

• Strong knowledge of environmental issues, sustainability best practices, and relevant regulations and standards.

Chairwoman - LAWRS

Voluntary, up to 5 hours per week

Jail Time Records is a non profit record label producing the music of incarcerated and formerly incarcerated artists from prisons in Cameroon and Burkina Faso. We built the first recording studio inside an African prison in the Central Prison of Douala-Cameroon. Jail Time Records believes that art and creativity can be used as powerful instruments for change, integration and rehabilitation. Incarcerated populations are amongst the most marginalised communities worldwide, and particularly in Africa. The punitive justice system in place does little to help those incarcerated reintegrate into society, and society sees incarceration as a sign of stigma and taboo. In Cameroon's prisons rehabilitation programs are almost inexistent.

We bring cultural activities and programs to one of the most marginalised communities in Cameroon and Burkina Faso, the incarcerated population. Through music and visual arts we stimulate inmates and former inmates to engage positively, find ways to express themselves non violently, and find hope and trust in new ways of being. Through the work of the prisoners that we publish and promote, we help transform the way society sees incarceration.

GRANT WRITER

• Help identify and apply for grants and funds that will help Jail Time Records' sustainability. There is potential for this role to become a full-time paid position in the future.
• Volunteer 2-3 hours per week for 3-5 months

Wootlab Foundation tackle four challenges. These are youth unemployment, gender disparities in education, the digital skills gap and the limited opportunities present for economic growth. They do this by implementing digital upskilling and green entrepreneurship initiatives to empower unemployed youth, promoting inclusive education through digital literacy interventions to overcome gender barriers, developing comprehensive digital upskilling programs to bridge the skills gap, and leveraging technology-driven entrepreneurship to stimulate economic growth and job creation.

FUNDRAISING

• We are looking for a Fundraising Volunteer to sourcing funds and implement strategies for resource acquisition. This role requires a dynamic individual with a proven track record in fundraising, grant writing, and partnership development.
• Volunteer 7-9 hours per week for 1-2 months.

GRAPHIC DESIGN

• Create visually appealing infographics, website banners and social media graphics in line with the strong visual language and identity of Jail Time Records and work on the layout of our new website.
• Volunteer 2-3 hours per week for 3-5 months.

Bath Welcomes Refugees (BWR) is seeking a Volunteer who will coordinate the monthly social gathering we hold for Ukrainian refugees.   The aims are to offer friendship and support, the opportunity for people who are potentially isolated to come together and to signpost people to services and activities.  Volunteers can also help with wider community integration, helping with language development, cultural exchange, local knowledge, etc. 

Who we are:

BWR harnesses the goodwill of the community in welcoming and supporting refugees and asylum seekers to thrive in their new community.  BWR is a small inclusive charity. Volunteer-led and non-partisan, we help refugee families out of desperate circumstances and into a promising future. Our volunteers provide hands-on support with English-language teaching, resettlement support, helping with our creche and at social events. We also have volunteers who help with employability, DIY, gardening, fundraising and more.

Expectations for this volunteer role include:

• Liaising with volunteers and planning the volunteer rota for sessions, in conjunction with the Volunteer Coordinator.

• Liaising with the management of the premises as required.

• Unlocking and locking up the premises and overseeing setting up at the beginning of sessions and clearing up at the end. 

• Liaising with representatives of the Ukrainian community to plan activities and publicise events.

• Overseeing the provision of drinks, snacks, cooking ingredients and materials which may be required (e.g. for games or crafts). 

• Allocating volunteers to specific roles or tasks as required (e.g. kitchen, supervising activities with children, registering arrivals).

• Coordinating and supporting volunteers during sessions.

Your skills and experience:

• Understanding of refugee issues

• Sensitivity to other cultures

• Experience of coordinating team work and working within a team

Time commitment:.

• Sessions run on Saturdays from 12pm to 2pm monthly - time commitment from 11.30am to 2.30pm for setting up and closing down. 

• 2 or 3 additional hours monthly liaising with volunteers; contacting leaders of the Ukrainian group 

• Full day Induction Training session and full day First Aid training

• There is scope for expanding the role to include activities beyond this event, if you have a little more time to offer
