Safety4Sisters is a feminist, anti-racist organisation advancing the rights of women experiencing domestic and gender-based violence who have no-recourse to public funds in the UK.  We provide specialist advocacy, groupwork support and emergency accommodation, and we create spaces for women to share their experiences.

We are excited that our organisation has grown significantly, with new funding and increased capacity. We are now seeking women to join our friendly board of trustees and support the organisation as we develop.

We are recruiting for general positions, and for the following specific roles:

Chair

· Experience of working in the violence against women and girls (VAWG) or human rights.

· Proven experience in a leadership or governance role, demonstration the ability to lead and inspire a diverse group of trustees and stakeholders.

Safety4Sisiters has a friendly and dynamic board of trustees, and new trustees will have opportunities for personal and professional growth as part of a supportive team. We hold full board meetings four times per year, along with a range of subcommittee working groups, and two development sessions. Meetings are a mix of online and in-person in central Manchester.

We are only seeking woman for this role as the Occupational Requirement under Schedule 9 (part 1) of the Equality Act 2010 applies. As a by-and-for specialist organisation, we aim for the majority of our trustees to be Black and minoritised women. We specifically encourage women with experience of the migration system and/or hostile environment to apply for these roles.

Role: Biweekly Walking Volunteer (to follow current volunteer) 

RJ4All (Restorative Justice for All), is an international institute with a mission to address power abuse and advance community cohesion and human rights through the values and practice of restorative justice. 

We have an exciting project, Resilient and Active Families, that is in need of a regular volunteer starting from the 3rd of October. This project aims to target young people and families either not in employment or education who would benefit from being involved in sports and exercise. The aim is to contribute to diverting young generations from harm, repairing family relationships, and allowing better futures. 

The project is centred around delivering walking and cycling sessions to families. As such, we are looking for someone who is interested in becoming a Walking Lead Volunteer. As a Walking Lead Volunteer, you will be a confident individual who is passionate about improving the wellbeing and mental health of communities and individuals. Your responsibilities will include planning walking routes and delivering sessions to the community. You will get the chance to work directly with a community facing many challenges including the cost-of-living crisis and provide a safe space for young people and families to learn more about the local area and make friends in the community. The volunteer will lead our small walking group biweekly on Thursdays at 16-17.  

As a volunteer at RJ4All, you will also be a part of a small friendly team with lots of support available and the opportunity to attend a variety of trainings (e.g.: first aid training, active bystander training) at the community centre. Additionally, you will be able to make use of the RJ4All CPD accredited e-courses including more trainings on restorative justice practice.

This role is an opportunity to get experience of working in a busy office environment supporting a legal advice service. Through providing vital administrative support, responding to enquiries, arranging client meetings and coordinating interpreters, you will help our expert legal advisers to deliver specialist legal advice and representation to refugees and survivors in complex cases. Through this role, you will get experience of working in a legal advice organisation and an understanding of its administrative and support needs. As the role develops, there may also be the opportunity to gain basic knowledge of Legal Aid procedures and client care.

Main tasks and activities

• Providing general administrative support such as copying, scanning, filing documents, data entry and generating reports from client databases;
• Basic reception duties including answering the phone, taking messages, opening and distributing post, and monitoring our email inboxes;
• Maintaining signposting list and providing information about alternative services where we cannot assist;
• Booking client appointments and interpreters, and maintaining interpreter register;
• Assisting the Legal Administrator and/or Billing Coordinator with preparing files for billing or transfer to another provider.

Skills and experience needed

• Understanding of, and commitment to, the objectives of Asylum Aid;
• A demonstrable empathy for our vulnerable clients, including asylum seekers, refugees and survivors of torture and trafficking;
• Punctual, reliable and self-motivated with a positive, ’can-do’ attitude;
• Basic understanding of the challenges facing our clients and of the UK asylum system
• High degree of accuracy and attention to detail
• Experience of working with spreadsheet computer programs (e.g. Excel) and databases

About the role:

The Counter-Trafficking team at HBF is a small but very busy team; it works with people who have been trafficked for all forms of exploitation and supports them in their involvement in the National Referral Mechanism (NRM), asylum and criminal justice systems. The Counter-Trafficking programme provides access to vital ongoing contact and safeguarding support for clients to ensure that they are kept safe and that their risks from others are minimised. The team takes a holistic approach which is tailored to the specific needs of clients, who have experienced human trafficking for sexual exploitation, forms of forced labour and/or criminal exploitation, amongst others. As a Counter-Trafficking volunteer, you will be trained to take an active role in the administrative and casework load of the team, and to help to provide pastoral support for our clients. This includes online filing, collating case materials (legal, clinical and other) to provide client chronologies, supporting the process of counter-trafficking assessments and other appointments, meeting remotely and in person with clients and engaging in tasks required to support the team. This is a fast-paced role, vital for the proper functioning of the team. You will be exposed to very traumatic information, but you will have careful, friendly supervision from a positive staff team in all aspects of your work. 

Main tasks and activities:

• Entering client data into our CMS database.

• Supporting Counter-Trafficking team staff with organising and booking client appointments.

• Collating legal and other case materials, writing up clients’ chronologies and drafting letters.

• Follow up calls with clients and/or professionals involved in cases.

• Meeting remotely or in person with clients alongside Counter-Trafficking team staff members.

• Taking clear and comprehensive notes at meetings with and about clients.

• Researching and collating key data and information for clients and the staff team.

• Attendance and minute taking at various professionals meetings.

• Administrative tasks as required by the team.

Skills and Experience Needed:

Prisoners Abroad is a UK-based human rights and welfare charity providing humanitarian aid, advice and emotional support to people affected by overseas imprisonment. We assist British citizens during their incarceration, when they return to the UK and need access to resettlement support, and we also support their family and friends throughout the trauma.

We are looking for someone with a recognised financial qualification or substantial relevant financial experience to be our next treasurer, to ensure an effective handover from our current treasurer who comes to the end of their maximum term in 2025.  

As treasurer you would:

• Provide strategic financial advice, support and challenge to the board, chief executive and head of finance
• Take an active role, working with staff on quarterly finance reports and statutory accounts and chairing the finance committee which meets quarterly
• Help us deliver our strategy, focusing on increasing impact and sustainability through strengthening our income steams and having a secure financial position

The Intern will be based within the Western Balkans team, working on rule of law and capacity building projects implemented in the region; in particular, there will be a focus on the capacity building of judiciaries.

The Western Balkans team has, for over a decade and a half, conducted a series of long-term rule of law programmes in partnership with domestic institutions and courts in the region. The aim of these programmes is to promote the national implementation of the European Convention on Human Rights, assist the process of European integration by strengthening the rule of law and the full recognition of human rights, and encourage regional cooperation amongst judges and legal professionals.

For example, the AIRE Centre in collaboration with Civil Rights Defenders organises the annual Regional Rule of Law Forum which brings together representatives of the ECtHR, presidents and representatives of the supreme courts and constitutional courts from the region, presidents of judicial councils, directors of judicial training academies and institutions, government agents before the Strasbourg Court, representatives of NGOs, and prominent legal experts to discuss some of the crucial issues Balkan countries face when it comes to the protection of human rights.

The team also drafts publications and guides on an array of human rights and rule of law related issues which are distributed to judges and legal professionals in the region. A copy of our publication on Covid-19 and Human Rights, which was launched at our Seventh Annual Regional Rule of Law Forum in October 2020, and can be found on our website.

We have also, recently, launched a new initiative on gender and the judiciary, including the publication of our most recent guide on ECtHR jurisprudence on gender equality, available here:

On a day to day basis, the Intern can expect to draft summaries of ECtHR cases for our regional European Human Rights Bulletin, Database, and publications, conduct legal research and assist with the drafting and editing of guides and publications such as this guide on Covid-19 and Human Rights linked above.

More generally, the internship will involve (non-exhaustive):

• ·Legal research: European Court of Human Rights jurisprudence, human rights principles (specifically those of the ECHR), reports by Council of Europe and United Nations bodies, and academic commentary.
• ·Drafting: Case summaries, narratives of ECHR articles, reports and publications to support the preparation of materials for training seminars, and background briefs/notes.
• ·Supporting the Western Balkans team/the AIRE Centre at national and international events. International events may involve accompanying the legal team to seminars and conferences.
• ·Administrative tasks: Keeping effective files and assisting the office/team with any ad-hoc tasks. Interns are required to assist with administrative tasks as they arise.

All your legal work will be checked by your allocated supervisor. There will be opportunity to sit down with your supervisor and review your work and internship. We also like to assist current Interns with their future career plans.

Essential Criteria:

·A completed LLB / GDL or equivalent.

·A firm understanding of the European Convention on Human Rights and its case-law

·Excellent research and drafting skills

·A high standard of both written and spoken English

·The ability to work a minimum of 3 days a week for a minimum of three months

Desirable Criteria:

·A completed LLM or MA in Law/Human Rights

·Knowledge of the French language

·A quick learner

·The ability to work in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision

·Excellent verbal and oral communication skills

·Proficiency with Microsoft Office packages

·Familiarity with the legal reform process in the Western Balkans

Remuneration:

All of our internships are unpaid. However, we do cover up to £30 of expenses e.g. travel or lunch for the days worked at the office.

Evolve Counselling is a long-established charitable social enterprise, providing low cost, affordable or funded mental health counselling to adults in Cambridgeshire and surrounding counties. Our professional counselling community is made up of 50 – 60 qualified self-employed practitioners, working part-time to deliver talking therapies both online and in person. 

We deliver around 500 counselling sessions per month to a broad range of individuals, many of whom would not otherwise be able to access therapeutic support. We are searching for an experienced HR specialist who can support our board, committees, and the CEO as we move through our next strategic stage of consolidation, then growth. Although long-established and successful, Evolve is reshaping itself and your HR expertise will be instrumental in positioning our charity to successfully meet the ever-growing demands and opportunities for supporting good mental health in our communities. Please note, a background in counselling is NOT a prerequisite for this role. Training will be available in general charity governance and in specific areas such as charity finance.

Your skills and knowledge, whether gained in the charity or commercial worlds, in a corporate HR Department, or a specialist consultancy, will help us to plan and “do the right thing” for our small staff and our self-employed counsellors, as we grow.

In anticipation of our current Chair completing her tenure in 2025, we currently seek someone who has the potential to lead our small board and sustain its effectiveness in supporting VfL towards further progress in the years ahead. Ideally, the candidate will have at least 3 years’ experience in Governance and an understanding of the sector within which VfL operates.

The role of Trustee is a voluntary one although expenses are paid when incurred in connection with the role. The board meets quarterly, mainly via video conferencing but with at least one meeting a year in Manchester where VfL is based. Full board meetings are held on a Saturday. Some communications occur between meetings (usually by WhatsApp or email) and occasionally additional (short) meetings are required to make decisions timeously – these will always be scheduled by arrangement with members.

We are searching for a counsellor who is able to provide support to both our clients and our internal team of volunteers. They must be able to provide vital mental health support to those navigating vulnerable situations, therefore we are searching for a friendly and experienced counsellor to join our team. They will help our clients and staff in clinic proceedings where conversations may take an emotional toll, and help the team through regular meetings with our volunteers.

As an online “ At Home” Volunteer, you will be working with people from a wide variety of

The Position: We ask Volunteers to contribute a minimum of one hour a month. Within our

Human Resource Division you will be learning to process applicants from around the world,

assigning them to appropriate Teams and coordinating the Team Leads training sessions and

monthly meetings. While English is required, you will learn to be comfortable with various global

accents as well as proficient in your Interviewing skills and background research. You will

Primary responsibilities

- Attend and contribute to quarterly Board meetings and work with the Directors and Trustees in advancing PFP’s vision, mission, and strategic goals.

- Develop and deliver PFP’s HR strategy. This includes the development and maintenance of employee and associate contracts, company policies and procedures, benefits and training packages, and a positive working environment.

- Lead on the recruitment and onboarding of employees, associates and volunteers, in accordance with the strategy of the Board.

- Work with the Director of Finance on payroll and pensions matters.

- Advise the organisation on compliance with employment law and safeguarding.

- Proactively seek fundraising opportunities.

- Contribute to the effective governance of PFP, including: ensuring PFP is accountable and carrying out its purpose for public benefit; ensuring compliance with the governing document and applicable law; and challenging the management of resources and ensuring financial stability.

About Swan Lifeline

Swan Lifeline is the oldest registered charity devoted entirely to the care of sick and injured swans in the Thames Valley and surrounding areas and has cared for over 30,000 sick and injured swans. We are based on the magical Island setting of Cuckoo Weir Island in Eton, Berkshire, SL4 6SS. Our aims are to RESCUE, REHABILITATE and RELEASE injured swans, and we are able to provide shelter and treatment for up to 180 at a time, returning them to the wild as soon as possible.

What are we looking for?

As our As Trustee – HR Lead, you would play a leading role (with input from fellow Trustees) in developing our HR strategy and policies. You would also be responsible for helping us recruit, train, manage and develop our staff (Full-time staff, Trustees and volunteers).

As a small charity with currently 3 employees and 20 Volunteers your skills and experience would be an invaluable addition to our board of trustees as we seek to grow and do more. Without the right balance of skilled and dedicated staff and volunteers, we cannot support swans who desperately need our help and face an uncertain future because of the Nature emergency and Avian flu. The team you build and develop will be the driving force behind continuing to sustain Swan Lifeline for the future.

• Ability to juggle multiple work streams at any one time.
• Ability to lead independently but be part of a team.

Primary responsibilities of the Trustee – HR Lead

• Build a mid and long-term strategy for people.
• Develop our Volunteer offer and strategy.
• Advise and develop onboarding, training and development strategies.
• Review and update compliant People-related policies and data.
• Stay informed about HR/Charity best practices, and emerging trends.
• Develop an informative induction programme for new Volunteers.
• Working with the Volunteer Manager implement regular Volunteer outreach & satisfaction reviews to assist in long-term retention.
• Develop low-cost but high impact CPD programme for staff.

Trustee responsibilities

• An understanding of trustee legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities.
• Safeguarding the reputation of the charity.
• Ensuring financial stability of the charity.
• Ensuring SLL has a long-term strategy to achieve its objectives.
• Ensuring SLL has effective policies and procedures to achieve its goals.
• Actively participate in Trustee meetings and shared workload.
• Comply with charity law, our constitution, and other relevant legislation.
• Use your specific skills and expertise to help good decision making.
• Be an active Board member exercising our responsibilities and functions.

We are looking to appoint someone with HR experience who is able to commit to providing consistency to the Senior HR Officer role. 

The role of the Senior HR Officer:

• To provide training and guidance to HR volunteers 
• To support the HR Manager
• To help in developing the HR functions
• To provide general supervision support and occasionally carry out tasks across recruitment, admin, volunteer relations and learning & development 

Role requirements:

• HR experience
• Able to provide guidance and support to others in HR
• Good management skills 
• Good communications skills 
• Good IT skills
