A new and exciting opportunity has arisen within Pro Bono Economics (PBE), to volunteer in the Operations Team. PBE’s mission is to end low personal wellbeing in the UK. We do this by helping charities and social enterprises understand their economic and social impact, so they can improve their overall effectiveness. We enable professional economists from the private and public sectors as well as academia to volunteer their skills to tackle some of the most pressing issues in society. We have worked with over 500 charities since our inception in 2009.

Having successfully delivered a major programme of groundbreaking work on the condition of the charity sector in the form of the Law Family Commission on Civil Society at the start of 2023, PBE entered a new phase in its development. Building on its growing research and policy expertise and its strong association with the social sector, the organisation takes a bottom-up and top-down approach to exploring, understanding, and tackling the causes and consequences of low personal wellbeing in the UK that uses the insights and perspectives of charities and community groups as a unique jumping off point. PBE is focused on delivering high quality research that both translates into real policy and practice impacts for people with low wellbeing and supports a more effective social sector to help deliver that change.

About the role

Reporting directly to Pro Bono Economics’ Finance & HR Manager you will be offering much valued support to PBE’s Operations team with the day-to-day finance and operations processes. This is a varied and exciting role requiring a strong finance and office background, excellent organisation skills, a keen eye for detail and a great level of accuracy. It also offers a great opportunity to develop your existing skills and learn new ones in a high impact charity.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

Finance

• To support the Finance & HR Manager with the monthly payment run
• Processing purchase invoices on our Xero account
• Perform weekly bank reconciliations.
• Raising sales invoices and dealing with outstanding payments
• To assist with quarterly VAT returns
• To assist the with general finance administration duties and managing the finance inbox

Operations & IT

• To support the Finance & HR Manager with recruitment
• To assist with maintaining office stationery and supplies
• To assist with reporting maintenance and repairs.
• To assist with reporting/logging IT issues with the external IT support team. 
• Any other duties as deemed reasonable by the line manager.

About you

We are looking for an enthusiastic candidate with a strong finance and office background with a passion for the social sector and able to commit a minimum of 10 hours a week.

 Ideal characteristics include:

• Ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of people
• A keen eye for detail and a great level of accuracy
• Good working knowledge of Excel
• Experience of using an accounting package preferably Xero
• Excellent organisational skills

Do you enjoy working with people and would you like to make a positive impact for Turtle Doves? This species was once widespread and numerous but now is down to 2100 pairs in the UK. The Operation Turtle Dove project in partnership of RSPB, Natural England, Penthorpe Conservation Trust and Fair to Nature was established to conserve this iconic, red-listed species. Our staff and volunteers are working with landowners to try and halt and reverse the population decline but we need to measure our progress. Following on from the successful 2021 National Turtle Dove survey, we need to expand our network of survey volunteers in Kent, Sussex and Essex to enable yearly monitoring of survey squares for Turtle Doves.

We are looking for an organised person with excellent communication & IT skills to join our team and to help run the Turtle Dove monitoring program and supporting a network of volunteers. Experience in carrying out bird surveys is welcome but NOT essential, we can provide training so you can understand the role of the surveyors you will be recruiting and co-ordinating. This role could be carried out remotely. This is a year-round roll with peaks in activity before and after the survey season which runs from 11th May until 31st July. All equipment needed will be supplied.

Volunteer Coordinators undertake a wide range of activities, including:

Tasks:

• Dealing with queries from potential new volunteers who get in touch
• Being the first point of contact for our existing volunteers and answering general queries
• Lead on advertising new volunteer roles (on the RSPB and external websites, in the local community)
• Set up interviews with potential volunteers and assist with induction administration
• Administrative tasks such as recording volunteer hours, registering new volunteers on our database, organising surveys, receiving, and entering data and processing expense claims
• Organising and managing a small budget for volunteer thank-you events at the end of the survey season.
• Helping to promote the project through internal comms such as project newsletters

More potential experience (optional):

• Analysing and screening conservation footage from trail cameras
• Helping to coordinate large-scale orders of supplementary feeds for Turtle Dove seed

This is a wonderful opportunity to make a genuine contribution to wildlife conservation.

Commitment from you:

Equivalent of 1-2 days per week (flexible) and could be a role-share. There will be peaks either side of the survey season (11th May until 31st July) and likely to be fewer hours during the rest of the year. You may also have the chance to volunteer for additional days in other areas of the project.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Plan and execute the Sports and Wellness strategy and service line: Improve physical health and mental well-being through sports and related activities by launching novel sports and wellness initiatives that prioritize agility and holistic health.

• Forward-thinking initiatives: design and launch innovative sports and wellness initiatives that promote physical agility and holistic health within the community. These should include sessions for mental and physical well-being like football, exercise, and self-defence classes.

• Make discretionary referrals to subsidised counselling.

• Offer subsidised programmes for mental and physical wellbeing: champion mental health awareness by offering subsidised programs for mental and physical well-being, including access to wellbeing workshops.

2. Measure performance: Keep accurate count of thefrequency and attendance of sports, counselling and wellness sessions; and the self-reported improvement in participants' mental and physical health after sessions. Provide this data to the Governance Team and Trustees on request.

3. Collaboration with Verticals Teams: 

• Partnership Development & Collaboration Team: Coordinate with this team to identify and establishalliances and partnerships with local, regional and global organisations, businesses, councils, and thegovernment to acquire Sports and Wellness resources, speakers or information.

• Fundraising & Financial Management Team: Collaborate with this team to conduct fundraising activities and financial planning for the Sports and Wellness service line. Identify diverse revenue streams, such as grants, donations, corporate sponsorships, fundraising events for the Sports and Wellness service.

• Volunteer Engagement Team: Work with this team to recruit, train and manage volunteers to support the Sports and Wellness service delivery.

• Marketing Outreach & Advocacy: work with this team to enhance visibility of the Sports and Wellnessservice across social media, press, and community events. 

4. Governance Team Interaction: Provide regular updates and reports to the Governance, Secretariat & Performance Reporting team. Ensure programmealignment with Barawak policies, procedures, strategy and objectives. Collaborate on monitoring and evaluation efforts to assess Sports and Wellness service impact and effectiveness.

About Us:

Evolve Counselling is a long-established charitable social enterprise, providing low cost, affordable or funded mental health counselling to adults in mainly Cambridgeshire and surrounding counties. Our counselling community is made up of 50 – 60 qualified self-employed practitioners, working part-time. We deliver talking therapies to adults – online and in person. Our service delivers around 500 counselling sessions per month to a broad range of individuals, many of whom would not otherwise be able to access counselling support. Showroom Work Station is a registered charity and a cultural hub for South Yorkshire and the North of England. 

Located in a converted 1930’s art deco building, the venue is home to a four-screen cinema, creative industries business centre, event space, and café bar, in the heart of Sheffield city centre. 

We are looking to recruit new Trustees to join our board.  We are particularly keen to hear from anyone with knowledge and understanding of major capital projects, fundraising or the hospitality sector.  However, if you don’t have expertise in any of these areas, but still feel that you have something to offer, please still get in touch.  This is a unique opportunity to join a creative and passionate team and help shape the future of the organisation.

As a trustee you will oversee the operation of a major cultural cinema exhibiting a diverse film programme with first run and retrospectives of curated work, including archive, documentaries, and many unique one-off programmes with regular visiting filmmakers.  We are home to some very successful film festivals and host many unique events each month.

Through our trading subsidiary, we also manage the Work Station creative industries business centre, operate a successful bar/café, and conferencing facilities.

Our Trustees work closely with the Chair, Chief Executive and Senior Management Team to provide clear strategic direction to the organisation, helping to agree policy, define goals, set targets, and evaluate performance.

As with all our Trustees, we are looking for candidates who can demonstrate excellent communication skills and have a good understanding of local, regional, and cultural agendas.

Trustees are required to attend approximately 5 Board meetings per year (usually held on the last Monday of the month, 6 pm – 8 pm) and to offer relevant support and specialist knowledge to enable us to meet the objectives of our business.

Help tackle loneliness and isolation in your Community. As a Volunteer Befriender, you will visit an older person in their own home once a week for a chat and to provide companionship. 

Our Befriending service supports older adults by alleviating loneliness and isolation, supporting independence, and increasing self-confidence, by making weekly or fortnightly visits to a client living in the borough of Croydon.

We place emphasis on making the right match for you and the client to ensure an enjoyable and rewarding experience. One of the befriending team will work closely with you during the match process and accompany you on your first visit to introduce you to the client.

You will be assigned a line manager who will support and encourage you. We provide a befriending induction along with training and ongoing support to ensure that you are fully equiped and ready for what will be a rewarding and positive experience. Feedback from our clients and volunteers show the huge impact on wellbeing that an hour a week can make.

What will I be doing?

• Visiting an older person in their own home once a week maybe for a cup of tea and a chat.

Raising Futures Kenya supports young people in Kenya to become self-reliant and live free from poverty, through technical vocational training and business skills courses, and specialised support such as counselling.

The Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB) is looking for three members of the Commercial and Partnerships Advisory Committee.

The Commercial and Partnerships Advisory Committee is to provide guidance and make recommendations to the Council or Executive Board on matters pertaining to commercial and partnership opportunities and activity, approach to safeguards and controls for partnership working, and advises them on commercial strategies and performance. The RSPB strategy recognises the importance of partnership in order to maximise the impact it can have. Similarly, commercial activities are key opportunities for the RSPB as we seek to grow and diversify our income.

In addition to making an important contribution to the work of the RSPB, through shaping its strategy and direction and influencing key decisions affecting its delivery of conservation outcomes, participating in an advisory committee can provide excellent networking opportunities, an opportunity to acquire practical experience of committee functions, decision-making process and further development of leadership skills, knowledge, and experience.

About you

We are looking for individuals with relevant experience to join our committees to provide independent, objective, challenging advice to support the Executive Board and Trustees in developing, shaping and implementing of RSPB strategies.

Essential skills, knowledge, and experience across one or more of the following areas:

1. Experience in building successful partnerships to further impact and setting common goals and outcomes.

2. Experience in developing and implementing commercial strategies that identify new income opportunities that help diversity the existing portfolio.

3. Experience in dealing with innovative financial products and how to take them to market.

4. Some prior involvement in the not-for-profit sector would be an advantage but not a requirement.

5. Leadership in setting up monitoring systems and KPIs for determining the effectiveness and success of these partnerships and commercial income stream.

The ideal candidate will have an understanding of charity law and regulations in the UK, along with extensive practical experience in setting up charities, Community Interest Companies (CICs), and Companies Limited by Guarantee (CLGs). In addition to possessing exceptional organizational and project management skills, the candidate should also have a genuine interest in spiritual subjects and a passion for making a difference in the world.

Responsibilities:

You will be required to:

• Provide expert guidance and support in the setup and registration of charities, CICs, and CLGs, ensuring compliance with relevant UK legislation and regulatory requirements.
• Consult with our legal team on the preparation of legal documentation, including governing documents, constitutions, and articles of association.
• Assist in the establishment of appropriate governance structures, and work with our HR team regarding the recruitment and training of trustees and board members.
• Assist our management and accounting teams to choose optimal bank accounts and obtain the necessary financial services for new charitable entities.
• Consult with our fundraising team to help implement our strategies for fundraising, donor engagement, and income generation.
• Offer strategic advice on staffing requirements, recruitment processes, and employment contracts.
• Help us to identify potential risks and opportunities associated with charity setup and operation.
• Keep abreast of changes in charity law, regulations, and best practices, and ensure that organizational policies and procedures remain up to date.
• Collaborate effectively with internal teams, external stakeholders, and regulatory bodies to achieve organizational objectives.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Proven experience in setting up charities, CICs, or CLGs in the UK, including a comprehensive understanding of the legal and regulatory framework.
• Knowledge of charity law, tax regulations, governance principles, and financial management practices.
• Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to convey complex information in a clear and concise manner.
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment, fostering a culture of trust and respect.
• Genuine interest in spiritual subjects and a commitment to promoting values of compassion, empathy, and social responsibility.

Responsibilities:

Executive Director Assistance

▪ Provide direct support to Executive Director to ensure IWI meets organisational goals and targets;

▪ Ensure staff reports and assignments are submitted timely & completely;

▪ Day-to-day management of Executive Director’s meeting schedule;

▪ Liaise with potential partners and donors at a high-level on behalf of the Executive Director;

▪ Support Executive Director during preparation of presentations, media interviews;

▪ Keep the Executive Director in on key organisational issues with diplomacy and discretion.

Partner & Donor Management

▪ Assist with preparation of proposals and enquiries;

▪ Assist with preparation and management of contracts/agreements;

▪ Support with the coordination of pipeline and work-flow.

Requirements:

▪ Experience of working at Executive Assistant level with senior management;

▪ Ability to manage complex and highly confidential information;

▪ Comfortable working autonomously and across multiple tasks and reporting into different project working teams and staff members;

▪ Knowledge of advanced MS office applications, including Word, Excel and Outlook;

▪ Excellent social skills, able to operate with diplomacy, tact and empathy;

▪ A high degree of personal organization and self-management;

▪ Comfortable with deadlines;

▪ Ability to think proactively and laterally to maximize opportunities to promote the work of IWI.
