Job Description
Nyaka UK is seeking committed and dynamic individuals to join our Board of Trustees. Trustees play a vital role in providing strategic direction, governance oversight, and leadership to the charity. We are looking for individuals with diverse backgrounds, skills, and experiences who are passionate about making a positive impact on global development issues.
Position: General Board Member & Trustee (Non-Portfilio)
Location: United Kingdom (Remote)
Reporting Line: Chairperson & Officers
Role Overview:
Contract type: Voluntary (Unpaid) except for reasonable expenses.
Time Commitment: Adhoc - 5-10 hours per month, including board meetings, committee meetings, and other related activities.

Area of interest: Individuals with experience gained from private, third or public sectors in leadership positions with expertise in fundraising, event management, legacy donations, grant applications and writing, marketing, web development, and domain management, alongside experience with African communities. We are looking for a variety of skill sets that can enhance our mission, emphasizing innovation, dedication, and the ability to contribute to meaningful change.
Essential Criteria:
- Applicants must be 18 years of age or over.
- Be fluent in English written and spoken.
- Not be barred from working with children or vulnerable people.
- No criminal record of dishonesty such as fraud or theft.
- Strong commitment to Nyaka UK’s mission.
- Willingness and ability to undertake an active hands-on role.
- Commitment to continuous learning and training.
- Willingness to leverage professional and person networks to support fundraising and awareness efforts.

With this role, you will help us research, develop, and write grant proposals to various organisations. Your ability to effectively convey our organisation's goals, impact, and needs through compelling proposals will directly contribute to our ability to fund and execute projects that make a positive impact in children’s education and wellbeing.
Full training will be given and no experience is necessary.
Your responsibilities will be:
- Researching and identifying relevant grant opportunities aligned with our mission and programmes.
- Collaborating with the team to gather necessary information for proposals.
- Writing clear, concise, and compelling grant applications and proposals.
- Ensuring all grant proposals meet the submission requirements and deadlines.
- You will be working alongside our founder as part of our small team.
What are we looking for?
We’re looking for someone who has excellent written and verbal communication skills.
The volunteer should also have:
- Excellent writing and communication skills.
- Great attention to detail.
- Strong research abilities to identify potential grant sources.
- Previous experience in grant writing or proposal development (preferred but not mandatory).
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
- A passion for children’s education and wellbeing.

We’re looking for people from diverse backgrounds and with a range of experiences related to terminal illness, end of life and bereavement, to join our group of I&S Voices volunteers.
As an I&S Voices volunteer, you will share your story and give us your feedback on what we produce so we can keep improving the information and support we have on our website and in print.
What will you be doing?
Your role might include some of the following:
- Reading and sharing your thoughts on a piece of written content.
- Watching and giving your opinion on a video.
- Having a phone call to talk about your experience.
- Being part of a group discussion about a particular topic.
