About Newlife

As one of the UK’s leading charities providing essential specialist equipment to children with disabilities, Newlife is dedicated to making life better - for the families we serve, and for the people who help us to make that happen.

Through grants and emergency equipment loans, we ensure children get the vital equipment they need, when they need it, while our free nurse helpline offers crucial support and information – as well as a listening ear. Our campaigns help to give children with disabilities and their families a voice, advocating for change to benefit the families we serve. And we support adults with additional needs with volunteering and employment opportunities, providing an introduction to the workplace and a means for career development.

We’re now seeking new Trustees to strengthen our Board and help shape the future of our vital work.

Who we’re looking for

We welcome applications from individuals with a strong commitment to inclusion, equity, and our mission. We are particularly interested in candidates who bring expertise in one or more of the following areas:

• Retail & Commercial – helping us grow and develop our network of charity shops and enterprise initiatives.
• Digital Systems & Infrastructure – supporting digital transformation, data management, and IT governance.
• Disability – lived or professional experience of disability, access and inclusion.
• Children’s Services – knowledge of child development, safeguarding, or children’s policy.

Previous trustee or governance experience is welcome but not essential. We offer support and induction for all new trustees.

Trustee responsibilities

• Attend and contribute to quarterly Board meetings (hybrid format, with at least one in-person meeting in Cannock annually)
• Provide strategic direction and oversight
• Uphold good governance and regulatory compliance
• Contribute to committees or working groups aligned with your expertise
• Act as an ambassador for Newlife, upholding our values and promoting our work
• Trustees are expected to dedicate time to meeting preparation, email communications, and occasional events, equating to roughly 1–2 hours per month outside of meetings.

The Children’s Trust is the UK’s leading charity for children with brain injury and neurodisability. Every year, 40,000 children in the UK acquire a brain injury and neurodisability through accident or illness, often losing fundamental abilities like walking, talking, or feeding themselves. At The Children’s Trust, we help these children rebuild not just their skills, but their confidence and self-esteem. Through our unique combination of therapy, healthcare, education and joyful activities, we show children what they can achieve rather than focusing on what they cannot do.

Based at our specialist centre in Tadworth, Surrey, we deliver residential rehabilitation, operate a pioneering special school, and provide community services that reach families across the country. With recent CQC and Ofsted inspections continuing to be extremely positive, we are about to launch our ambitious five-year strategy, focused on helping more children and young people with brain injury and neurodisability to live the best life possible. About the role

We have made a number of key appointments to the Board and senior leadership team in the last 12-18 months, including a new Chair and Chief Executive. With some of our longest serving Trustees approaching the end of their terms, we are looking to make further appointments to our Board and committees to bring fresh, external perspective, challenge and leadership.

We are seeking two outstanding individuals to join our Board as Trustees, each bringing distinct expertise to support our continued growth and excellence.

• Chair of Audit & Risk Committee:

This pivotal role will take over from our departing Chair of the committee when her second term concludes in April 2025. We need someone with substantial financial expertise and a deep understanding of governance and risk management who can provide both effective oversight and practical support. The ideal candidate will have recent experience with audit committees and external audits, bringing the technical knowledge and confidence to engage with auditors when necessary.

While we’re open to various professional backgrounds, some understanding of regulation and the charity context would be particularly valuable.

Above all, we need someone who understands what good governance, risk management and Board assurance looks like and can help us maintain the highest standards in a regulated environment.

• Finance, Investment & Resources Committee Member:

Our second Trustee will join a committee that covers not just finance, but the full spectrum of our resources, including estates, people, and digital infrastructure. This is very much about financial management and commercial acumen rather than purely technical accounting.

We’re looking for someone who has run operations and can contribute to the strategic changes we’re implementing. Whether you’re a CEO, COO, or senior leader with a financial background, we want someone who brings that broader perspective of leading and managing an organisation and can help support executive leaders.

Who we are looking for

Both roles require Trustees who align with our mission and are genuinely excited by our work with children with brain injury and neurodisability. You’ll be joining a Board that’s been significantly refreshed over the past two years. We’re particularly committed to increasing diversity on our Board and would be especially pleased to hear from candidates with lived experience of brain injury, neurodisability, disability or neurodiversity, those from diverse ethnic backgrounds, lower socio-economic backgrounds, or who identify as part of the LGBTQIA+ communities.

You’ll need to be an effective communicator who can build relationships across our organisation, absorb complex information, and think laterally to find pragmatic solutions. Most importantly, you must be able to commit the time needed to help drive the charity forward through this period of change, demonstrating high ethical standards and a clear commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion.

Time Commitment

We estimate both roles require approximately the equivalent of two days per month.

This includes preparation for and attendance at board meetings, which typically meet 6 times a year, including our annual strategy away day, and committee meetings (committees typically meet 4-6 times annually). Outside of the formal meeting schedule,  it is likely that additional time for relationship building and ad hoc discussions with the executive team and fellow board members.

Board meetings take place in person at our Tadworth site, in Surrey, though we maintain flexibility for online participation where appropriate. Committee meetings are generally held online.

Foundation First Ghana

Foundation First Ghana is a community-rooted non-profit founded in 2017, dedicated to improving early childhood education for children aged 2–8 in underrepresented communities. The organization addresses challenges such as low literacy and numeracy, teacher disempowerment, gender bias, poor social-emotional development, poverty, and unsustainable teaching practices. Partnerships Development Officer

Volunteer Role Description (remote, unpaid)

Foundation First Ghana is a nonprofit dedicated to giving every child a strong start in life. Through our PreCARE Initiative (Preschool Care, Feed, Educate, and Empower), we provide meals, uniforms, school kits, and teacher training for preschool children in low-fee private schools across Ghana.

We are seeking an Online Volunteer Partnerships Development Officer to help us strengthen our fundraising and partnership efforts by leveraging their networks, skills, and creativity to connect us with potential donors, partners, and sponsors globally.

Key Responsibilities

As a volunteer, you will support Foundation First Ghana by:

• Researching potential donors, foundations, and CSR opportunities that align with our mission.
• Helping draft or review proposals, partnership pitches, and concept notes.
• Sharing our campaigns (such as our GoFundMe drive) within your networks and encouraging support.
• Connecting Foundation First to relevant individuals, organizations, or grant opportunities.
• Advising the team on donor engagement strategies and partnership management.

Requirements

• Passion for education, early childhood development, or nonprofit impact.
• Strong communication and networking skills.
• Ability to research and identify funding/partnership opportunities.
• Experience in fundraising, grant writing, or nonprofit partnerships (desirable but not mandatory).
• Internet access and ability to work virtually with the Foundation First team.

Time Commitment

Flexible, approximately 3–5 hours per week (September–December 2025, renewable).

We are looking for volunteers to help with our social media. We want to massively improve and increase our content from TikTok to You Tube. So much goes into social media from the physical filming and scripts to making the small everyday promotional posts to bigger videos, editing and posting them. We need people to help with every aspect of social media  But don’t panic we are not asking one person to do all of this! So keep reading....

Who are we looking for?

• Somebody who is fun loving
• Be creative. Content creation is all about being creative.
• Knowledge or willingness to research algorithms and social media trends.
• Willing to learn or has knowledge of editing and posting videos
• Enjoy building online community
• No previous experience is necessary but a willingness to learn is essential.

What we're looking for

We're looking for an enthusiastic, creative and organised person local to Swindon to lead our Festival of Trees event over the festive season. Around 90 per cent of our income comes from our community supporters and we couldn't continue doing what we do without them. That means, our community fundraising volunteers play a really important part in rallying people together to raise vital funds which help to protect children and prevent abuse.

What you'll do

You'll volunteer around your other commitments to steer our Christmas Festival of Trees event, to coordinate the event activity and engage with other volunteers, partners and the public to make the event a success for the community to enjoy and promoting a positive image of the NSPCC! You'll be a valued part of  our Volunteer Community Fundraising Team in Swindon, raising awareness and funds. We appreciate that work, family and friends come first and, with that in mind, this role offers flexibility to fit in with your lifestyle. You only need to commit between August and January, a few hours a week. 

What you'll get

We'll support you with advice, skills and tools to help you fundraise and spread the word of the NSPCC. You'll learn more about how you're helping to protect children across the UK, and you'll have the opportunity to grow your skills and inspire others to support us. It's also a chance to spend time with like-minded people and make new friends.

The event is already well established and currently housed at the Wyvern Theatre, you'll have a guide to follow, a list of contacts and support from your local Fundraising Manager. We are hoping someone can put their own spin on this event to further its success.

This year we turned our inclusive characters into props and began creating our ‘safe bubble’ at festivals. We want to continue this work and made some improvements! Jazz up the props and make our safe space look amazing. In a nutshell we want to make our props more interactive and create props, decorations and lighting for our safe space.But we are super open to hearing ideas as to what we could do with this!

You don’t need to be a qualified accountant – just someone with good financial awareness, an eye for detail, and a desire to help shape our future.

What You’ll Do

As Treasurer, you’ll play a key role in the charity’s success by:

• Overseeing our finances – ensuring we are financially healthy and legally compliant

• Working with our CEO and Accountant – to review budgets, financial plans and monthly reports

• Supporting the board – by explaining financial information in an accessible way and guiding strategic decisions

• Chairing our Finance Subcommittee – held once every 12 weeks

• Ensuring good financial governance – making sure systems are in place for managing our income and spending

• Helping plan for sustainability – offering insight into full-cost recovery, funding gaps and long-term planning

Who We’re Looking For

We’re open to candidates from a variety of backgrounds – you may be a retired finance professional, someone in a leadership or strategic role, or looking for a first trustee position with a cause that matters to you.

You’ll ideally bring:

• Financial literacy and confidence with numbers

• Experience managing budgets, interpreting accounts or overseeing finances

• Strategic thinking, sound judgement, and a collaborative style

• An interest in supporting families and giving children the best start in life
