VOLUNTEER VICE-CHAIR

Across the UK, our 65 local branches help disabled people live the lives they choose. Our network of skilled volunteers respond to thousands of requests each year to design and make customised equipment free of charge.

As a Vice-Chair you’ll support your Chair or Coordinator in making sure your local branch works as effectively as possible.

You’ll bring your leadership, communication, organisation, and motivational skills to this role.

What the role involves

This is a varied role where local need shapes what you’ll be working on, but it can include:

• Supporting the Chair/Coordinator in organising branch activities, from setting up branch meetings to planning and completing referrals

• Helping the Chair/Coordinator oversee the recruitment, induction, and ongoing support of new volunteers

• Deputising for the Chair/Coordinator when necessary

• Acting as a key contact between staff and volunteers

What you’ll need for this role

Essential

• Confident in leading and chairing a meeting when required

• Confident using Microsoft Office, the internet and email

• Willingness to attend local events to promote the charity’s work

• Ability to understand and follow external and internal policies and procedures

• Able to keep people’s personal details safe

• Willing to follow Remap policies and procedures – and a commitment to our values

Desirable

• Confident in communicating with different audiences, including decision-makers and volunteers

• Able to delegate and motivate the activities of others

• Enthusiastic about raising awareness of the charity’s work in the local area

• Willingness to develop skills and experience

You’ll also need to complete the induction checklist and reference check, and you may need a DBS check if you also have another client facing role.

VOLUNTEER HEALTH ADVISOR

Our volunteer Health Advisors bring their professional skills and experience to help shape the work of their local branch, supporting other volunteers to produce solutions that meet the needs of our clients.

What the role involves

This is a varied role where local need will shape what you’ll be working on, but primarily you’ll be offering guidance to our Engineers/Makers on producing aids, adaptations and equipment.

What you’ll need for this role

· Qualified Occupational Therapist or Physiotherapist

· If you’re not currently practising that’s fine - you’ll just need to have done so within the past 3 years

· A commitment to our aims and values

You’ll also need to complete the induction checklist, a reference check and a DBS check if you’re not practising.

Where will I volunteer

The team meets on the third Monday evening of each month in Rochford.  This is when we review ongoing and new jobs; input from our Health Advisor is a crucial part of the discussion.  For more medically complex cases, we may also ask you to accompany a volunteer on a client visit.

No dance experience needed, just an interest or passion for supporting young people.

Stopgap Dance Company are a global leader of disability access in dance and continuously examine best practice. We actively advocate for the industry and the wider world to become more inclusive.

Our mission is to create an inclusive world where diversity is not just accepted but pursued, a world where no one is limited by prejudice against Deaf, Disabled or neurodivergent people.

Alongside our professional productions we run multiple dance companies during the week and we are looking for motivated volunteers to support with our Wednesday evening group.

DBS check: Anyone who becomes a regular part of our team will need a DBS. If you do not already have one, we will ask you to complete an online form before starting, as well as reading our Safeguarding and code of conduct policies.

About the role

Leonard Cheshire is looking to appoint an exceptional clinical professional to join our Board of Trustees at a pivotal moment in our 75-year history as we embark on an ambitious strategy that will reshape how we deliver person-centred care for disabled people across the UK.

You will work closely with our Chief Executive, Dr Ruth Owen OBE, and Vanessa Davies, our Executive Director Quality and Clinical Care, together with our high-calibre board, to guide Leonard Cheshire through this next phase.

You will help shape policy and strategy, provide oversight of our clinical standards, and ensure that our governance reflects best practice across the healthcare and social care sectors.

Our new Trustee will contribute to decisions about service design, quality frameworks, regulatory compliance, and strategic partnerships that will affect thousands of disabled people.

Who we are looking for

We seek a Trustee who combines deep clinical expertise with commercial acumen and strong governance experience.

We are open regarding which particular clinical background you will bring, as we operate in a wide context supporting all disabled people to lead independent lives. We are particularly interested in someone who can evidence knowledge and skill in applying their clinical experience within therapeutic environments, enabling young people to live as independently as possible, within the community. An added benefit will be someone who has combined clinical and therapeutic interventions with the use of enabling technology.

Your clinical background should be complemented by experience in leadership roles where you have balanced quality, safety, and financial considerations. Perhaps you have worked in senior positions within NHS trusts, private healthcare organisations, or social care providers. You will have experience with regulatory bodies such as the CQC or have been involved in service transformation projects.

Equally important is your understanding of good governance. Experience of board-level decision making, risk management, and strategic oversight is valuable, whether gained in healthcare settings or other sectors. Furthermore, experience of working with complex commissioning arrangements and local authority partnerships is helpful.

You will bring genuine passion for disability rights and person-centred care, understanding that our work is about far more than meeting care needs – it’s about enabling people to live with dignity, choice, and independence.

We are looking for someone like you to facilitate our monthly special interest group for blind and partially sighted people who are interested in these topics and who would like to share their experience with others.

You will contribute to the group to ensure that all participants feel comfortable and that the group runs smoothly.
This group will run monthly either over the telephone or as a video call.

Are you a good listener? Are you able to manage group conversations and ensure people feel comfortable together and that groups run smoothly? We need you to facilitate our weekly telephone groups that offer blind and partially sighted people the opportunity to socialise with others.

This is a telephone-based role that you can do from home. You will need access to a landline or mobile phone We ask you to commit to between 1 and 3 hours per week to facilitate Talk and Support befriending groups which will be at the same day and time each week. Each group runs for an hour.

Would you like to help blind and partially sighted people in your local area? Do you enjoy driving and meeting new people? RNIB wants you to be a Volunteer Driver.
For the people they help, our volunteer drivers provide a friendly face and that personal touch to brighten their day and help get them to where they need to be.
Our drivers can become a regular part of someone’s life and for some their journeys together may be the only chance an RNIB customer has had to get out of their home for some time.
If you are friendly, courteous and reliable then this is the opportunity for you.

Transporting blind and partially sighted people from weekly support group-weekly on Fridays to Newtownabbey and monthly to Greenisland.

RNIB is looking for enthusiastic volunteers to cheer on our team of over 50 runners at the 44th edition of the Great North Run – the biggest and best half marathon in the world. Lend your voice and energy and help us be the loudest cheer point on the course!

RNIB runners raise vital funds to help ensure that no one faces sight loss alone and we are looking for friendly and enthusiastic volunteers to cheer and motivate runners to make it around the course.

Please note, this role is only available for those who live within a close proximity to Newcastle or South Shields.

Join our amazing volunteer team in this flexible opportunity that puts you at the heart of our work supporting blind and partially sighted people. You’ll make taking part in events and carrying out volunteering easier and more enjoyable for our customers and volunteers with sight loss.
You’ll take some of the stress and anxiety out of getting around and taking part in activities as a blind or partially sighted person. The help you give will encourage people to do more.

What you’ll be doing
• Sighted guiding / giving practical help to individuals in and around venues, so they can take part in events.
• Supporting volunteers with sight loss with their volunteering activities which range from facilitating a regular community group to delivering a talk about sight loss to a local business. Your role would involve things like guiding; Meeting and greeting at group activities or creating a welcoming and interesting display stand at events.

In this role you will only be helping individuals in places open to the public, often in a group setting. We will provide training in sighted guiding techniques and understanding sight loss.
We would particularly like to recruit support volunteers within the Downpatrick area (last Wednesday of every month)

We'd love you to get involved in our Glasgow Tech Hub, working with our technology service coordinators to help people with sight loss develop the knowledge, skills and confidence to use everyday technology. We need volunteers to come along on a monthly basis but depending on popularity, this could be increased.
