As The Chair of the Board of Trustees you will have the opportunity to:
• Set the vision, mission and standards of the organisation
• Ensure that the organisation pursues its objectives as defined in its governing

• Safeguard and promote the good name and values of the organisation
• Guarantee the organisation’s administration is both effective and efficient
• Secure the financial stability of the organisation

its funds
You’ll lead the governance and direction of TLC alongside a team of trusted senior professionals.
You’ll have full access to all necessary training and reimbursable expenses, and the chance to actively improve the health and wellbeing of people across the UK.

About ESRA
We help people in East Sussex to live free from addiction and follow an abstinence base programme. Our recovery hub is run by staff with lived experience and volunteers, most of who are in recovery themselves. We provide a range of health and well-being services that are inclusive, accessible, and responsive to the needs of local people in recovery.
The Chair will play a key role in the strategic direction of ESRA and support the Board with their leadership skills.
What will you be doing?
The Chair will hold the Board and Senior Management Team to account for ESRA’s mission and vision, providing inclusive leadership to the Board of Trustees, ensuring that each Trustee fulfils their duties and responsibilities for the effective governance of the charity.
The Chair will also support the CEO and ensure that the Board functions as a unit and works closely to achieve agreed objectives.

What are we looking for?
We are interested in an individual who brings the following:
· Have commitment to the mission and values of ESRA

· Someone with existing charity experience, for example either on a charity Board, or a CEO of a charity
· Experience of working in drug and alcohol services is desirable

Time Commitment and Location
· The Board currently meets quarterly
· There is an away day once a year
· Ad hoc communication in between Board meetings with the CEO.
· This can be a hybrid role, so the new Chair doesn’t necessarily need to be based in Hastings

All our Benefits Advocates play an integral role within our Information and Advice team and last year helped us to identify over £2.5 million in unclaimed welfare benefits entitlement for older people in the county. This money is life changing for our clients; improving quality of life and wellbeing, and supporting local services
We are looking for volunteers who are patient, sensitive and reliable, to assist older people to complete benefit forms such as Attendance Allowance. Appointments are usually in the older person's own home but can sometimes take place over the telephone. Full training and ongoing support are provided by our friendly and knowledgeable team.
Our volunteers will also raise awareness of and promote Age UK Devon services to clients, and record details of any other queries or concerns so that our Advisors can follow up with clients.
Skills required for this role are:
· Ability to empathise with others.
· Good verbal and written communication skills.
· Understanding of confidentiality.
· Patience, sensitivity, and reliability.
· Ability to respond appropriately to different and sometimes difficult situations.
· Working as a team member, referring to other team members when appropriate.
· Ability to work unsupervised and manage appointments.

· Knowledge of the Benefits System (training will be provided).

As a mentor on our young peoples programmes, your support will:

- By becoming a mentor with Unfold, you will be supporting those who often face exclusion, this as, although we are open to everyone, 93% of our service users are from racialised groups, 60% of our referrals come from other supporting service and we have also adapted our services to support Afghan evacuees
- With the opportunity to be a mentor for a young person on our Asylum Seeker programme, you will be a welcoming and reliable person of support in often difficult and challenging times, supporting the navigation of achieving goals in new environment.
- With 89% of the young people we work with saying that having a mentor has improved their life, your skills and experiences are needed and will have a positive impact.
Commitment
- We ask volunteers to commit to delivering mentoring1–2-hour a week, over a period of 24 sessions. Through mentee and mentor testimonies we have seen the positive impact holding sessions in person vs online has, and so we would ask any perspective volunteers to be prepared to be available for all in person session should this be the required need of your mentee.
- Attend monthly online group supervisions held weekday evenings. Supervisions are a great place to meet other mentors, share skills and ideas around mentoring, hear from organisation who can enhance your mentoring experience as well get support with the challenges you may face.
Training
- We provide training based in positive psychology building skills that are transferrable, such as empathic leadership, coaching-style approaches, the growth mindset, mentoring, inclusion and more and an additional 1 hour training for mentors supporting asylum seekers.
- Throughout your mentoring journey, we’re always on hand to help, with ongoing support from a designated Programme Officer, as well as a range of tailored resources.

Role Overview:
As the COO - VOLUNTEER ROLE, you will be instrumental in overseeing our operations and ensuring the smooth execution of our mission. Your leadership will be key in nurturing our team and advancing our strategic objectives. This role is remote, with collaboration conducted via telephone or online platforms like Zoom.
Key Responsibilities:
- Guide the charity’s operations, ensuring efficiency and effectiveness in all aspects.
- Collaborate with the CEO and board to set ambitious yet achievable goals.
- Streamline processes to enhance productivity and resource allocation.
- Lead our passionate team, promoting a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.
- Implement robust systems to track progress and drive organisational success.
- Work closely with the finance department to safeguard the charity’s financial health.
- Ensure adherence to legal standards and proactive risk mitigation.
- Foster strong relationships with partners, donors, and the community.
- Be an ambassador for Unlock YOUR Potential, advocating for our mission and values.
- Carry out of duties that support the running of Unlock YOUR Potnetial and your role as COO.
Qualifications and Experience:
