Human Rights Volunteer Roles in South East

Every year, the private economy reaps $150 billion in illegal profit from human trafficking (Neithammer, 2020). An estimated 40 million individuals worldwide are lured into trafficking each year due to unemployment, debt, and desperation (Toney-Butler, Ladd, & Mittel, 2021). The majority of these individuals are women and girls (Toney-Butler, Ladd, & Mittel, 2021). Exploiters promise economic opportunities, job training, and financial assistance in exchange for labor, then they exploit workers through debt bondage and require free labor or even prostitution as a means of repayment (Polaris Project, 2015). Shyne is solely dedicated to career and professional development services for those who’ve experienced exploitation.

The organization tackles these challenges by providing survivors with opportunities for growth and self-sufficiency through career and business development initiatives. By equipping survivors with the skills and resources necessary to launch successful careers or businesses, Shyne not only provides immediate economic relief but also fosters long-term economic independence, thereby closing the wealth gap for survivors.

FUNDRAISING COORDINATOR

• Assist the CEO with coordinating fundraising events. These events can include tattoos against trafficking, yoga classes, donor events, social gatherings, and pitch events. Fundraising and organizing skills are invaluable in enhancing our organizational capacity, expanding our reach, and maximizing our impact in the community.
• 2-3 hours per week remotely for 6 months

Indigenous peoples and local communities are grappling with the constant threat of displacement from their lands. The violations of human and land rights, particularly in areas like Loliondo, Ngorongoro, and Simanjiro, have left thousands of people vulnerable and in need of urgent assistance. Following these evictions, many of the Maasai lack vital resources for survival and are unable to connect with the rest of the world. Not1More is working with a partner organisation, TEST, in Tanzania to support their fundraising, advocacy and communication activities.  

Your Role

We are looking for a volunteer who can dedicate time to this role through to December 2024. You will be a part of a team that works directly with Tanzania’s indigenous Maasai, and help to make a difference in key areas such as protecting ecosystems and advocating for indigenous rights.

The main objective is to help the team with external communication activities, including social media account management, website management and Google Ads management. This role requires excellent written communication skills and will suit someone who has an interest and/or experience in managing social media accounts, Wordpress websites, and other external communication activities. 

Responsibilities can include:

• Reviewing the partner organisation’s social media presence.

• Developing and implementing a social media strategy with the partner organisation, including content creation, and posting.

• Training partner organisation staff to manage social media accounts.

• Updating website content, for example news stories and new projects.

• Opportunities to develop other external communication activities.

Desirable Skills and Experience

• Previous experience managing a Google Ad Grant account, including ad campaign establishment and monitoring.

• Previous experience training staff to use a Google Ad Grant account, and providing Google Ad campaign reports.

Leadership

Support and mentoring to develop your skills will be available in this role as we aim to help you bring out our talents in this team.

Hours

As this is a volunteer role, time is flexible, but you would be expected to attend a bi-weekly check-in with someone from the Not1More team to ensure are working in the same direction.

The main objective is to help TEST diversify and increase their funding sources. This will include connecting with other enthusiastic team members online to develop a fundraising strategy and implementation of a fundraising campaign, including identifying grant funding opportunities, assisting in the preparation and submission of grant funding proposals, and pursuing philanthropic and corporate partnership funding opportunities. 

Desirable Skills and Experience

• Previous experience with fundraising activities, preferably with an NGO.

• Previous experience managing a Google Ad Grant account, including ad campaign establishment and monitoring.

• Previous experience training staff to use a Google Ad Grant account, and providing Google Ad campaign reports.

The Salusbury World advice team have been successfully helping clients to navigate welfare benefits, immigration problems, housing support and to find work for 20 years. 70% of our clients require an interpreter. 

We particularly need interpreters to support our Farsi-speaking clients.

Some appointments take place virtually and some are face-to-face appointments, usually in the London borough of Brent. 

Your main tasks will be to: 

*offer clear independent interpreting of the client’s issue and responses from the advice worker to the client. 

*support clients from a variety of Farsi-speaking countries, many with almost no English.

Experience of interpreting is desirable but not essential. You need a warm personality and an ability to build a rapport with people quickly, a high standard of English, and a non-judgemental and supportive approach.

Commitment: this is an irregular commitment, as and when needed. It is likely to be 2 or 3 hours per month but may be less.
