Job description

The pressures of Covid have impacted on the families that we support in many ways. To help them through this difficult time we have started a telephone befriending service, to enable parents to talk through their concerns, to reduce loneliness and isolation and to help them to develop a positive outlook.

Volunteers must be over 18 and will need to undergo an enhanced DBS clearance check. 

• To contact the service user on a regular basis (normally weekly) by phone or video app such as WhatsApp
• Act as a positive role model
• Actively develop a supportive, professional relationship with the service user
• Where appropriate, to help motivate the service user to make positive changes in their lives
• Provide basic information, advice and guidance about relevant issues and encourage/signpost service users to access professional support provided by other agencies as appropriate
• Promote awareness of and access to relevant community resources
• Empower service users to make appropriate choices
• Inform service users of the boundaries of the relationship
• Make the necessary practical arrangements needed to contact service user in conjunction with the Volunteer Coordinator/ designated staff member
• Work at all times within the relevant YSS operational policies including confidentiality, health and safety, professional boundaries, lone working and safeguarding
• Keep records of any phone calls and additional contact made with the service user and pass this information on to YSS via information sharing channels
YSS recruits volunteers from all walks of life and we do not expect them to have any specific education or formal qualifications.
We are looking for volunteers with potential that we can develop as well as those with relevant experience and qualifications.
