Title: Trustee
Location: Our trustees are based across the world and the majority of Board meetings are held virtually. In-person Board meetings are held at key strategic times and to ensure effective governance, roughly every 12-18 months.
Time commitment: At least at 10 days a year, although Trustees often give more time – ideally 15-20 days. Four Board meetings take place a year (in March, July, October and December), mostly online, and lasting about 3 hours. In-person board meetings will be 2 days. The next in-person board meeting will take place in Spring 2026.
The Finance Audit and Risk Committee and the Governance and People Committee also take place four times a year, and all of these are virtual meetings.
Term: Trustees are appointed for a term of three years which may be renewed once.
Remuneration: None. This is a volunteer role (in line with UK charity legislation). However, reasonable expenses to undertake the role will be covered.
Following a governance review, an audit of existing Trustees, and considering Trustee retirements due in 2026, we are looking to appoint a number of new trustees.
The Trustees of Practical Action share responsibility for governing the organisation and directing how it is managed and run by the Executive Team. Trustees make sure that the charity is carrying out the purposes for which it was set up and is in the best possible position to achieve its aims.
Trustees promote and safeguard the organisation's reputation. Each brings their own unique skills and experiences to support and shape our strategic direction and work. We have a particular interest in candidates with strong experience in the following areas:
- Supporting us to diversify and grow our funding base, especially through philanthropy and climate finance.
- Opening doors to potential donors and providing intelligence to inform our approaches to donors.
- A strong background in charity finance and UK charity governance (one Trustee may take on the role of chairing the Finance Audit and Risk Committee). Knowledge of the UK pension environment would be useful.
- Experience of senior organisational management and leadership.
- Understanding the local contexts and partners of our work in Africa, Asia and Latin America.

What is an Inventory volunteer?
The RAF Museum has many items in its collection which are not currently on display. Our inventory volunteers will ensure that we have an up-to-date record of all the items in our reserve collection, their purpose and condition, to help us prepare to move from our current store outside Stafford to a new storage facility in Cosford. This is a weekday only opportunity.
This role sits within the RAF Museum’s Midlands Development Programme which will transform our museum and our impact on the local community through a series of phased projects – engaging audiences who may not obviously identify with the RAF story by finding common interests and histories which link them. As part of this project, we are planning a new learning centre, outdoor spaces, collections hub and major exhibition.
What will I be doing?
The Inventory Volunteer role could encompass various tasks, which might include:
· Assessing objects’ condition
· Measuring and weighing items
· Undertaking cleaning as required
· Object photography

How much time would I need to commit?

Description
Blind and partially sighted people tell us the support they receive from others that have experienced something similar, can have a hugely positive impact. It can help them to navigate life with sight loss, receive valuable support and access help and guidance on a range of topics at a potentially difficult time.
RNIB is seeking volunteers with sight loss to make a real difference to blind and partially sighted people and those with a vision-related concern, by supporting someone who is either newly diagnosed, or who is experiencing a challenging time in their sight loss journey. Draw upon your own adaptation journey, and enable others to become as confident as you in living a day-to-day life.
As a Buddy you will be matched with a customer remotely on a one-to-one basis for a period of 6 weeks. During this time, you will connect with them and provide support over the phone, by email, video call, or social media. You will create an opportunity for the individual to feel better about their situation by listening well, showing empathy and understanding, providing reassurance and encouragement, sharing your own experiences that might be helpful, as well as signposting to RNIB and other appropriate support. There is flexibility on the number of matched customers you have at any one time.

We’re looking for enthusiastic volunteers to join our team at the Sandringham Half Marathon. All we need you to do is create an inspirational buzz and provide much needed support to our fantastic runners, helping them in their mission to raise money for our Fight for Home.

Location: Sandringham Estate, Norfolk
Volunteer role: Cheer, Cheer, Cheer!!!
The main thing we need you to do is cheer! You will be a vital part of race day, supporting 10 Shelter runners from the side lines who are raising money for the fight for home! You’ll need to help create a high energy, friendly atmosphere, motivating everyone on race day to do their best.
Your support is not only an amazing motivator to our event participants, but volunteering is also an opportunity to have fun, meet new people and experience some wonderful community spirit whilst contributing towards our mission.

Why we want you
As branch treasure you will be key part of your local branch creating a range of
activities to help spread the word about SSAFA within your community. To
ensure that that our Armed Forces community know that SSAFA are here to
help and that we need the public’s support to continue offering our services.
What you will be doing
· Maintaining and reconciling local bank accounts and recording transactions and authorised payments.
· Providing and present reports to the branch committee and to SSAFA’s central office.
· Maintaining accurate records using our on-line finance management system.
· Preparing year end accounts and financial statements including arranging an independent review.
The skills you need
· Some experience of financial administration
· Great written and verbal communication skills
