To support around 100 Afghan and Muslim girls, aged 8-16, from refugee communities to develop their participation in football. The project will enable them to develop football skills and knowledge, participate in games, and socialise in a female-only culturally appropriate ambience but within the wider open-access setting of public sports facilities and local parks. The project will give the girls confidence to participate, reassure their parents that their cultural practices are being respected, and increase the visibility of girls’ participation in sport among the wider community.
This project will enable these girls, who are often excluded from mainstream sport, to play football for their physical and psychological health. It challenges public stereotypes and under-representation of Afghan and Muslim girls in community sport. ACAA will create opportunities for them to play football in public spaces in West London.
