Job description

The Crossness Engines Trust was established as a charity in 1987, with the aim of restoring and preserving the nineteenth-century buildings and engine of the southern outfall of Sir Joseph Bazalgette’s London sewer system. You will be joining a Board of Trustees who bring a range of experience to the charity and who share a passion for conserving and sharing this jewel of Victorian engineering.
In general terms, the Chair should comply with Nolan's seven principles of public life: selflessness, integrity, objectivity, accountability, openness, honesty and leadership.
The Chair will hold the Board, its supporting committees and executive team to account for delivering the Trust’s Mission, Vision and Strategic Plans, providing inclusive leadership to the Board of Trustees, executive and volunteers and ensuring that each trustee fulfils their duties and responsibilities for the effective governance of the Trust. The Chair will also ensure that the Board functions as a unit and works closely with the members of the Trust to achieve agreed objectives. He or she will act as an ambassador and the public face of the Trust.
The Trust’s Chair will serve a three-year term and will be eligible for re-appointment for one additional term.
