Assist with the upkeep of ground support equipment and aviation artifacts.

Key Tasks:

• Clean, restore, and preserve historical support equipment.

Lead small groups on tours to the Vulcan, sharing its story and legacy. Be the face of the Vulcan experience!

• Chaperone visitors safely to and from viewing areas around the aircraft.

• Deliver scripted or informal talks about the aircraft’s history.

• Answer questions and encourage interaction.

• Assist visitors in locating their names under the aircraft.

• Assist with safety, information points, and general guest experience.

• Confident public speaker or comfortable engaging with groups.

• Interest in aviation or history desirable but not essential (training provided).

What’s involved?  

• Meet and greet visitors when they enter the café with a warm smile. 

• Help with queue management and direct visitors.

• Undertake tasks ranging from clearing and preparing tables for the next visitor, to supporting families with pushchairs and wheel chair users navigate the pathways between tables.

Our House Experience Volunteers add the sparkle to any visit – giving everyone a warm welcome, bringing stories from Ickworth to life and helping people get the best out of their day. 

 This role will suit you if you are:

Tasks and responsibilities

• Responding to the diverse needs of visitors, including people with additional access needs.
• Sharing inspirational stories, curious facts and practical information or simply the space for visitors to wander at their own pace.
• Helping visitors to discover more, answering questions and making suggestions so they can enjoy their day, their way.
• Being an ambassador for the whole property and the National Trust. Helping visitors understand the full scope of the offer at Ickworth beyond the house.
• Learning more about Ickworth, so you can share your knowledge and stories of the family and their collections with visitors.
• Responding to the changing needs of Ickworth – supporting ongoing interpretation strategies in the House.
• Supporting with health and safety and evacuation procedures if required.
• Being part of a team that may need to adapt and change in response to local needs, National Trust priorities or changes to government guidelines

Volunteering as part of our Cycle Hire addition to Ickworth's Visitor Experience, this role is to shape and develop the cycling culture at Ickworth and support with customer service as well as hiring out bikes.

What's involved:

To support the Cycle Hire Supervisor in the day to day running of the cycle hire hub 

• Meeting and greeting visitors and understanding their requirements
• Following the protocols for hiring and returning bikes 
• Sizing bikes for visitors and supporting with trailer and balance bike hire 
• Helping visitors navigate and plan their cycle route across the estate 
• Basic bike repairs (if you can, training can be provided) 
• Supporting housekeeping, cleanings equipment and facilities for use 
• Developing a cycling culture across the Ickworth Team
• Being part of the ideas team for what else Ickworth can offer as part of our cycling offer 

*As part of this role you will have the opportunity to learn basic cycle maintenance, but it is your choice if you opt in to taking on this training and no one should attempt to fix an Ickworth bike without having this training signed off*

We are looking for a Trustee who brings experience and insight in one or more of the following areas:

1. Leadership in the education sector, including schools, FE/HE institutions or youth services

2. Knowledge of arts-based pedagogy and creative learning methodologies

This Trustee will also serve as our Board Safeguarding Lead, helping to ensure that our work with young people and vulnerable groups is safe, inclusive and aligned with best practice.

West Horsley Place Trust is a thriving arts charity with many successes and enormous potential to grow.  We are the custodians of a 400 acre estate in Surrey and have a mission to transform this once private residence into a place that improves people’s wellbeing throuh culture, heritage and nature. 

We are looking for a Finance Committee Chair and additional trustees representing the following areas of expertise: Legal / Heritage Buildings / Environment and Sustainability / Building and Conservation. 

ABOUT THE ROLE

Commitment

• Annual away day
• Occasional ad hoc support between meetings

The Finance Committee Chair will also attend and chair six Finance Committee meetings per year (some online/hybrid)

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

As a trustee, your core responsibilities will include:

• Contributing to the shape of the company's mission, values and long-term strategy
• Supporting the Board and operational team with expertise and advice for your professional area
• Reviewing and commenting on management reports provided to the Board

Governance and Compliance
Each trustee, as part of the trustee team, will:

• Ensure the Trust complies with legal, financial, and regulatory obligations
• Monitor financial planning, budgeting and risk management
• Uphold high standards of governance and accountability
• Stay up to date on current trustee good practice
• Promote the work of the Trust across professional networks
• Support fundraising initiatives as required and help build partnerships

Participation and contribution

Additionally all trustees will:

• Attend as many Board meetings as possible and the annual away day
• Provide challenge and support in a respectful, constructive and collegiate way
• Actively contribute to meetings and subcommittees or advisory groups that the trustee is a member of
• Maintain confidentiality and declare conflicts of interest where relevant

Becoming a Trustee
Being a trustee is a valued volunteer role with significant responsibility.  Training will be provided to all new Trustees, and an ongoing programme of refresher training is in progress for existing Trustees.  This ensures we all share a common vocabulary of governance and good practice and have a common understanding of our role and responsibilities and how we can best support the charity.

As a Board we share good practice with each other, and we support and guide the operational team through our sub-committees and advisory groups.

Expenses for travel as allowed by HMRC for trustees will be paid.

Our partner is an acclaimed vocational ballet school providing exceptional full-time classical ballet and academic education, helping students achieve excellence in both the performing arts and wider life.

They are seeking a strategically minded individual with significant experience in financial management to serve as Treasurer. The ideal candidate will be a qualified finance professional with the ability to communicate complex financial information clearly, and with a keen interest in the arts.

As a Trustee and Chair of the Finance Sub-Committee, the post holder will oversee the school’s financial health and sustainability, review and present draft budgets and management accounts, advise on reserves and investment policies, and ensure compliance with charity accounting standards.

The Board and Finance Sub-Committee both meet four times a year, with meetings currently taking place remotely. The minimum time commitment required for the role is 5 hours per month.

About Lancaster Grand Theatre

Lancaster Grand Theatre is one of the UK’s oldest working theatres, first opened in 1782. Today, our 460-seat Grade II listed venue stages over 250 events every year — bringing joy to thousands of people from across our community and beyond.

The charity that runs the theatre — Lancaster Footlights & Grand Theatre CIO — is powered by volunteers and driven by a commitment to making arts and culture accessible, welcoming and sustainable.

The Role of Trustee

As a Trustee, you will be part of a voluntary team that:

· Contributes ideas, expertise and time to support our ongoing development

Trustees attend around 6–8 Board meetings per year (usually weekday evenings), plus occasional working groups and events. We aim to create a supportive, collaborative and enjoyable environment for all Trustees.

Chair Role: The current Chair of Trustees will progressively hand over the role during 2026. The incoming Chair will be selected by the Board after the AGM. Support and mentoring will be provided.
