Governors typically devote around 12 hours a month to their roles at National Star. Some months are busier than others, due to the cycle of meetings but generally you will have 3 formal meetings (termly) plus 2 informal development sessions each year.  To help you to plan your time all meetings are set by July for the next academic year. We are seeking to recruit two new trustees to join our passionate and dedicated board.

We are looking for individuals who share our vision of a world where all children and young people with additional needs and disabilities are fully included in their communities. Whether you're an experienced trustee or looking to take your first step into governance, your contribution could be life-changing for the children we support and for their families.

About the role

As a member of our board of trustees, you will be jointly responsible for the legal, effective, and safe running of me2 club. Working closely with fellow trustees and the senior leadership team, you will help shape the charity’s strategic direction and ensure we continue to deliver high-quality support to our beneficiaries.

As one of our ‘guardians of purpose’, you will play a vital role in making sure all decisions reflect the best interests of the children, young people, and families we serve.

We are also looking to appoint a charity secretary, either as one of the new trustees or as a separate role. This position plays a key part in supporting the governance and smooth running of our board.

Volunteer Ski Opportunity – Jumbulance Ski Trip to Niederau, Austria
23rd January – 1st February 2026

Love skiing and want to make a real difference? We’re looking for confident, capable skiers to join us on our annual Jumbulance ski trip to Niederau, Austria. This is a unique opportunity to combine your passion for skiing with supporting adaptive skiers to enjoy an unforgettable alpine adventure.

What’s involved:

• Partner with passengers during daily adaptive ski lessons

• Support with getting in and out of sit-skis

• Assist adaptive ski instructors, including helping secure sit-skis onto lifts 

• Be a caring, reliable presence on the slopes – from encouragement to practical support (e.g. helping at lunchtimes where required, or giving a hand to our carers when it may be required)

Volunteer Carer Opportunity – Jumbulance Ski Trip to Niederau, Austria

We’re looking for volunteer carers to join us on our annual ski trip to the beautiful resort of Niederau, Austria. This is a unique chance to support others while enjoying an unforgettable ski holiday in the Alps. No prior care experience? That’s fine, we provide full training. Could this trip be your first step toward gaining valuable experience in the health and care sector?

What we provide:

• Travel on board The Jumbulance, accommodation, breakfasts, and dinners

• Ski equipment and lift pass

• The chance to ski or enjoy the hotel’s spa and local activities

• Free DBS Certificate, initial training in care, safeguarding and manual handling 

Your role will include:

• Reporting to the Care Lead for the trip, who will be on hand to provide guidance and support when needed

• Supporting a passenger with their morning and evening routines - personal care such as washing, dressing, and using the toilet

• Medication support where required

• Helping with mealtimes as needed

• Providing support in the spa if required and when safe to do so

• Sharing the support, each volunteer has either the morning or afternoon off each day, giving you regular time to ski, relax at the hotel spa, or explore the resort

• Joining in with group activities in the evenings, which often include games or a drink at the bar

Experience and training:

• Previous care experience is preferred but not essential

• We’ll provide training before the trip so you feel confident in your role

• Most important is a caring attitude, teamwork, and willingness to get involved

Fundraising:
To help make these life-changing trips possible, all volunteers are expected to fundraise £500 towards the cost of their place. We’ll give you tips and support to reach your target. 

This role is perfect for someone with a caring nature who’d enjoy combining meaningful support with time to ski and share in a truly special adventure. The Orpheus Centre is a specialist further education college and charity working to support young disabled adults, who are passionate about the arts, to achieve their potential and lead independent lives.

Set up by musician and songwriter Sir Richard Stilgoe, Orpheus offers learning, supported housing and personal care on the same site in Godstone, Surrey.

Volunteer Role:

As an Action Team Volunteer, you will play a vital role in assisting with our fundraising activities throughout the year, from fun runs, festivals and supermarket collections to special events. By sharing your skills and time, you’ll meet new people as part of a friendly team that makes a difference in the community and have a rewarding experience helping spread awareness of Orpheus and the importance of the funds our supporters raise.

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for volunteers who are friendly, have buckets of enthusiasm, have good communications skills and able to work as part of a team. We have 250 local groups which play a vital part in supporting people affected by MS across the UK. They provide sense of belonging, unity and friendship. And they deliver services and support for their local MS community.

We are looking to recruit a Group Coordinator for our Liverpool, Halton and Knowsley group. As our local Group Coordinator you’ll take the lead in making sure your local group works as effectively as possible. You’ll recruit, induct and support other group volunteers to make sure your group’s activities meet the needs of your local MS community. In this role you’ll be able to develop your leadership, management, communication, organisation and motivation skills. 

Time Commitment

We estimate this role will need around 5 hours a week. Our roles are flexible and aim to fit around you. Time commitments for this role may vary depending on your activities. This is an ongoing role.

This is a great opportunity to gain experience within a large charity and develop your existing skills and learn new ones. We need you to get involved and help make positive changes to the lives of people affected by MS.

About you

You’ll have an interest in the MS Society and the work that we do, as well as the enthusiasm to represent both us and our values locally. You will understand the needs of people affected by MS in your area and be sympathetic to the needs and motivations of volunteers. You’ll be confident using Microsoft Office, the internet and email. You’ll be able to apply disability, equality and inclusion practices and understand and apply our risk management system. Ideally you’ll understand the local area and organisations that provide local services.

You will be reliable and easy to contact and you need to live in or near the Liverpool, Halton and Knowsley area to carry out this role.

At St John Ambulance, we are looking to develop our volunteering offer and become an even more integral part of our communities through delivering community first aid and education.

As a Community First Aider, you’ll deliver first aid to those in need through local events, as well as provide education to the public so that the ripple effect of First Aid grows.

We will make sure you will have access to a proper induction to volunteering with SJA and the training you need for the role you take on. The Group The Musical is seeking somebody in Shrewsbury to be an administrator and clerk to our board of trustees. They would be responsible for ensuring accurate administration and minuting of three to four governance meetings per year.Any other skills they could contribute would be welcomed.

The Group the Musical is committed to safeguarding and conducts necessary background checks on candidates. 

The Group the Musical is a theatre in Shrewsbury (UK) and community currently rehearsing and producing, The Group, a new musical which raises awareness of Autism and disability from the perspective of a support group and its service users during its formation and development. We need people to be support group assistants to take on support roles in our rehearsals. This role would be also ideal for anybody with ambition for a drama directing, working with people with disabilities or teaching role or in classroom support. We are committed to safeguarding and criminal disclosure (DBS) will be required. 

Are you looking for an admin volunteer role which helps to make a positive impact on people living with sight loss? As a Helpline Admin volunteer, you will use your excellent administration skills to make a positive impact and a genuine difference to those seeking help from RNIB by acting on requests to the Helpline email mailbox. These requests can include:

• Printing and mailing factsheets, letters and booklets to customers.
• Monitoring envelope, booklet and sundry levels and order replacement supplies accordingly.
• Sorting the Helpline post received into the Peterborough office and scanning applications for the RNIB’s Talking Books services
• Converting documents using Word into an acceptable format for conversion to braille or audio and update customer records on a CRM system.

We're looking for volunteers who are available sometime during weekdays for a either half a day or a couple of half days. The role is based in RNIB’s Peterborough office.

This is a busy role and would suit someone will excellent admin and customer care skills who has a methodical and organised approach and is able to pay attention to detail.

How you will be supported in your role:
Full training on the role will be provided. You will also receive support from your volunteer manager which will include regular updates and catchups.

You’ll take some of the stress and anxiety out of getting around and taking part in activities as a blind or partially sighted person. The help you give will encourage people to do more.

What you’ll be doing
• Sighted guiding / giving practical help to individuals in and around venues, so they can take part in events.
• Supporting volunteers with sight loss with their volunteering activities which range from facilitating a regular community group to delivering a talk about sight loss to a local business. Your role would involve things like guiding; Meeting and greeting at group activities or creating a welcoming and interesting display stand at events.

In this role you will only be helping individuals in places open to the public, often in a group setting. We will provide training in sighted guiding techniques and understanding sight loss.

The Vision Friends project has been running successfully for the past five years, providing free, Welsh Government-funded training to health and social care professionals across Wales. The training is designed to help professionals better understand and support people living with sight loss.

This year, we are launching a new strand of the project: Vision Friends: First Responders. The aim is to adapt our existing training to specifically support first responder services to enhance their ability to support individuals with sight loss in emergency and urgent care situations.

We are seeking a committed and empathetic volunteer to help us shape a more inclusive future by gathering valuable feedback from blind and partially sighted individuals, as well as first responders via online forums. This is a fantastic opportunity to make a real impact on how services are developed and delivered across communities in Wales and beyond.

What you will be doing:

Facilitate engaging and accessible online forums with blind and partially sighted people to gather feedback for an RNIB led project;

Run structured feedback sessions with first responders to understand the service experiences and identify areas for improvement;

Ensure participants feel comfortable, heard and respected throughout all discussions;

Capture key insights and report findings clearly and accurately to the health and social care training team;

Support RNIB in creating a positive and inclusive environment for all forum participants.

You will also need to have strong organisational skills, be reliable and and are committed to RNIB’s values of inclusivity and respect

Volunteering will take place remotely over Microsoft Teams or Zoom but there is also the option to attend Vision Friends training sessions and meet the team in person in Cardiff.
