What will I be doing?

Sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, dusting and disinfecting surfaces in bedrooms, bathrooms and throughout the hospice.

Washing, drying, and ironing laundry.

Disposing of waste (general and clinical), including recycling.

Helping with infection control by following our in-house procedures and using personal protective equipment when needed.

Working as part of a wider team to keep the building fresh, clean and welcoming.
How much time should I give?
Completely flexible, whatever you can offer – some volunteers offer time every week, others support on a monthly basis at the end of respite stays, some help quarterly with deep cleans or just occasionally to prepare or clear up around special events in our calendar.

It's something of a community hub, an inspiring and happy emporium. It is often the first place people hear about the hospice. If you’re on the shop floor then a large part of the day can be spent talking with and listening to customers. What do I need to have?

Coffee Shop Volunteer - Prevent Breast Cancer
Commitment/Hours
Morning 9.30am-1pm Afternoon 1pm-4pm
Purpose/summary of the role
Assisting in the running of the Coffee Shop in a methodical and organised way.
The Coffee Shop plays a significant role in the promotion of the image and work of Prevent Breast Cancer whilst providing a vital service to patients of The Nightingale Centre and Prevent Breast Cancer.
The profits generated are used to support research into breast cancer prediction and prevention.
With this in mind, please find below a list of tasks/ activities which the Prevent Breast Cancer Volunteer will undertake in this area.
Main duties & responsibilities
- To assist and serve customers with food items and beverages.
- To ensure food safety and food hygiene at all times.
- To handle cash and card payments securely.
- To keep the Coffee Shop and areas around, clean and tidy throughout the day.
- To check, use by and sell by dates on all perishables and notify at the end of the day.
- Ability to work on own initiative regarding the upkeep of the Coffee Shop.
- To monitor and record fridge temperatures.
Training will be given on all aspects
- An e-learning course to be completed
- Health & hygiene in regard to serving food and beverages
- Customer service
- Daily cleaning
- Handling cash and card payments, including training on using a tablet and card reader
- Monitor and recording of fridge temperature levels

Providing hands-on care and support to patients in their daily living, including personal care and eating and drinking, according to their individual needs. How much time should I give?
Ideally, an average of one shift a month, but scheduling can be flexible, based on your availability and hospice needs. Some volunteers commit to regular shifts while others have a more variable pattern of availability.

Being told you have a brain tumour diagnosis can be a very frightening and confusing time. At The Brain Tumour Charity, we aim to provide clear, relevant and supportive information to help people to better understand their situation and start to take control of it.
With your help, we want to:
- Increase our visibility – we want to help more people to find our website, following a brain tumour diagnosis.
- Provide high quality information – we want to answer the questions that our community has in a clear and compassionate way, as well as signposting them to resources and support
- Support our current website review process – we want to ensure that our information is up to date, accurate and trustworthy to enable our community to make informed decisions throughout their brain tumour journey
How can you help?
We’re looking for Website Volunteers to review and help improve our new and existing webpages. You’ll be given training in editing these, in order to:
- Improve the readability of our webpages
- Improve our Search Engine Optimisation (SEO), which impacts how easy our website is to find
What impact will you have?
Our website supported over 1.2 million people in 2024/2025 and we want even more people to be able to find us. By helping to improve our visibility, more people will be able to find us sooner after a brain tumour diagnosis and be able to access vital information, resources and support.
We’re looking for
You don’t have to have any experience in SEO or website editing for this role as full training will be provided. We’re looking for individuals with:
- Good written communication skills, including the ability to simplify language into lay friendly terms
- An interest in developing new skills and helping to improve our website information
- General IT skills and an ability to use their own laptop for this role

Time commitment
We ask volunteers to commit to around 3-4 hours each week for a period of at least 6 months. Once you’ve completed the required training, there are no restrictions on when you can do your volunteering – this can be done at a time that works for you, including evenings and weekends.
Practical considerations
You will receive a full induction to The Brain Tumour Charity and any specific training for the role (Induction training will take place week commencing 15 December). You will receive ongoing direction from one of the team, who will be your key contact.
We carry out reference checks for all individuals who will be volunteering with us on a regular basis. Volunteers will be required to complete some internal data protection and disclosure documentation before commencing the role. Volunteers must be over 18.
We encourage volunteers to claim for any reasonable expenses that are incurred in the course of their volunteering with The Charity. If we receive a high volume of applications, we may close the role early, so we’d encourage you to apply at your earliest opportunity.

We are seeking Event Physiotherapists to respond to and manage emergency calls/incidents whilst attending events. At all times provide specialist, clinical, social and holistic care to undertake clinical assessment and interventions those individuals in the pre-hospital environment, which may include stadia, concerts, motorsports, road races etc. This may encompass working on both ambulances / FRV’s and within treatment units as required.

Our Support and Information team offer a wide range of inclusive and accessible peer support services, for anyone affected by a brain tumour. One of our most popular services is our Online Support Groups which offer peer to peer support on Facebook, HealthUnlocked and Instagram. We are looking for volunteers who can manage requests to join our Facebook Support Groups and respond to posts with supportive comments and signposting.
How can you help?
We are looking for volunteers who can manage requests to join our Facebook Support Groups and respond to posts with supportive comments and signposting. This role will continue to facilitate the warm, welcoming and inclusive nature of the support groups by ensuring members are welcomed to the group and posts across our online support groups are responded to by The Charity, where appropriate.
You can get involved in the following:
- Managing Facebook requests
- Creating and maintaining accurate information on our CRM database
- Welcoming new members to the groups and letting them know where they can access support
- Offering peer support by responding to posts Flagging any posts or comments with the group admin if you have any worries or concerns
- Support with additional online tasks that help to deliver the Charity’s Support service

Time commitment
We ask volunteers for a regular commitment of at least two hours every a week (during office hours), with the opportunity to offer more time if you would like to. Due to the training involved, we would ask that volunteers are able to commit to a minimum of 6 months volunteering with us.
Practical considerations
This is remote role where you can volunteer from home. You will receive a full induction to The Brain Tumour Charity and any specific training for the role (induction training will take place week commencing 5 January 2026). You will receive ongoing direction from one of the team, who will be your key contact.
We carry out reference checks for all individuals who will be volunteering with us on a regular basis. Volunteers will be required to complete some internal data protection and disclosure documentation before commencing the role. Volunteers must be over 18. We encourage volunteers to claim for any reasonable expenses that are incurred in the course of their volunteering with the Charity. Role Purpose

Purpose of the role:

The Board of Trustees (‘the Board’) is the body with the legal duty to protect the mission and vision of the CoSRH and to ensure that it is run in accordance with legal requirements.
The role of the Board is to provide good governance and leadership by:

Treasurer
- Chair the Finance, Risk and Investment Committee (FR&IC) and lead the committee as follows:
- To review progress of financial elements of the strategy and make recommendations thereon to the Board of Trustees.
- To review/consider the strategic plan in context of financial and budgetary impact.
- To review the annual budget along with any constituent elements including membership pricing and make recommendations to the trustees.
- To agree specific expenditure beyond that in the approved budget of up to £125k.
- To make a virement of budgets of up to £125k
- To keep under review through regular reports the delivery of approved capital projects both from the capital investment as well as the actual compared to the projected returns.
- Advise Remuneration Committee on the affordability of any changes to pay and or benefits.
- To review the CoSRH Board Assurance Framework including mitigations, consider the total risks being carried in light of the risk appetite and undertake regular reviews of the risks by rotation.

Board members are expected to:

- Be a champion and ambassador for the CoSRH
- Abide by all relevant policies and procedures of the CoSRH

Person Specification
Essential Criteria:
- A financial accountancy qualification or equivalent experience (eg ACA, CIMA)
- Experience of audit, investment, strategic planning and budgetary planning
- Ability to work effectively as a member of a diverse team whilst keeping in mind the responsibility of being an individual trustee
- Experience of guiding an organisation through growth and change
- An understanding of and commitment to the values expressed in the CoSRH code of good governance
- Confident and effective communication skills including listening skills
- A track record of being able to process details quickly and get to the heart of an issue including financial issues
- Understanding of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of trusteeship
- Understanding of the role of the Chair of Trustees, CoSRH President and CEO
- A track record of significant achievement at a senior level in the commercial private, public or not-for-profit sector
- Experience of board or committee membership in a charity, public sector or commercial organisation
Desirable Criteria:
- Experience of board or committee membership in a charity, public sector or commercial organisation
- Knowledge or experience of the charity sector
- Knowledge of the healthcare sector
