Volunteer Board Member

Volunteer Role Description (remote, unpaid)

In their capacity, they will offer guidance to the organization, manage international partnerships, and use they experience to strategize and implement action plans that will assist the organization in meeting its objectives and goals. This is a flexible role only 10 hour per week, there are no monthly meetings unless you request for it to communicate with the organization on your progress. The organization will be sharing with you of all their work through your desired communication mode regularly.

The organisation empowers young women to become economically independent do they can make informed decisions about their lives.

We offer menstrual health trainings in both schools and in community, we work with parents and local leaders to ensure that there is community awareness in regards to issues affect the girl child and women, we have started/opened up clubs in schools where students can get accurate information about their lives and these clubs also encourage students to stay in school. We encourage young girls to take up leadership positions right from lower class level, they can be prefects at school, local leaders for young women in their communities. Lots of training and community awareness programs.

Role Overview As a Communications & Media Volunteer, you will play a key role in shaping and sharing our message across various platforms. You’ll manage our social media presence, create engaging content, and help bring the stories of our communities to life through words, images, and video.

Adesso Development Initiative

We address the inequality of education, the digital divide, promote inclusion and responsible consumption and production across Nigeria.

Adesso is an Italian word for “now”, and this project serves as a call to action, asking us to act now because the future is now, the time to act is now, and the digital age is now. If indeed we want to build an inclusive and sustainable world, digital inclusion has to be at the forefront of our endeavours. Project Adesso aims to address the quality of education, digital divide, promote inclusion and responsible consumption and production.

The project will engage with various stakeholders and organisations to carry out their corporate social responsibilities through the project. Ask people to donate their old but functioning laptops Crowdfund to enable the purchase of other necessary accessories

In the end, this will be given to selected public schools. The hope is that through this project, the digital divide over time will lessen and also increase in digital literacy among young people.

Writer

SHELTERBOX IS LOOKING TO RECRUIT 2 NEW TRUSTEES TO JOIN OUR BOARD.

Position Type: Voluntary - The position of Trustee is unpaid

However, all reasonable out-of-pocket expenses incurred on charity business will be reimbursed in line with our Expenses Policy.

Time Commitment: Around 12 - 15 days per year

The Board meets four times year. Two of these meetings are in London or Truro (Cornwall) and two of the meetings are online. Trustees are also encouraged to be a member of one of three committees which meet quarterly for two hours online via Microsoft Teams. There is also an annual two-day Board retreat, which is held in person and is combined with a Board meeting.

Attendance: In person and online

Trustees may also be invited to attend occasional fundraising or networking events.

Term of Appointment: Trustees are appointed for a three-year term, which may be renewed at the end of the term. Trustees cannot serve more than three terms (nine years).

Historically, the organisation’s financial resources have surged in line with high profile disasters and public response. Therefore, it is vital that we continue to build strategies that focus on developing predictable funding growth and ensure we have a sustainable and diverse income profile globally.

As a global organisation, we are seeking applications from across the world, particularly from the global south and from individuals with protected characteristics. Role Purpose:

Trustees are responsible under the governing documents of ShelterBox for the governance of the charity.

Upon appointment you will be provided with all applicable governance documents. Management and administration are delegated to the CEO and staff of the organisation.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES                                                       

As a member of the Board:

To ensure that ShelterBox is beneficiary led in our decision-making processes.

To agree and regularly monitor ShelterBox’s strategic direction, ensuring that the strategy will deliver on the organisation’s charitable aims and objectives.

To ensure that ShelterBox functions within the legal, charitable and financial requirements set by statutory and regulatory authorities and that it strives to identify and achieve best practice in the management of these areas.

To ensure the effective and efficient administration of ShelterBox by defining goals and evaluating performance against agreed targets.

To act in the best interests of ShelterBox as a whole and to put the interests of ShelterBox before those of any other organisation or person.

To identify areas for improvement and opportunities to maximise our performance, particularly in relation to the effective support, development and deployment of our people.

As a Trustee:

To help the Board of Trustees reach sound decisions. This will include the scrutiny of proposals, leading and initiating discussions, providing advice or guidance on new initiatives and utilising any specialist expertise and experience.

To chair and/or attend bodies given delegated authority by the Board.

To participate in Trustee and Chair appraisal processes, including giving and receiving feedback and conducting Trustee exit interviews.

To adhere to the principles and processes set out in the ShelterBox Board Manual.

Trustee Opportunities

The organisation is seeking individuals who can contribute to its mission and help ensure effective governance and strategic oversight. Prospective Trustees should be prepared to commit the necessary time and energy to the role, bringing with them strategic insight, independent judgement, creativity, and the confidence to contribute openly to board discussions.

Your time will make a huge difference. We estimate one four-hour shift will, on average, provide enough income to enable Oxfam to provide life-saving handwashing facilities for 81 people.
