Volunteer roles

The Secretary is a key governance role, ensuring the smooth running of the charity’s board and compliance with charity law. They provide vital support to the Chair and trustees by keeping accurate records, maintaining good communication, and ensuring decisions are well-documented and followed up. The main activities of this role are: 

• Organise and prepare agendas for trustee meetings, in consultation with the Chair.
• Circulate papers and information to trustees in advance of meetings.
• Take clear and accurate minutes of meetings, highlighting decisions and actions.
• Maintain statutory records in line with charity law and good governance (e.g. trustee register, conflicts of interest).
• Support with filing annual returns and reports to the Charity Commission and other regulators.
• Keep policies, governing documents, and key records up to date.
• Act as the point of contact for trustees regarding meeting arrangements and governance matters.
• Ensure the charity operates in line with its constitution and relevant legal requirements.
• Contribute to the wider development and good governance of the charity.

About the Charity
The Sussex Reptile Rescue Centre is a small, registered charity (Charity Number 1210189)
established to care for, rehabilitate, educate, and treat ill, injured, and unwanted reptiles in
Sussex County and its Surrounding areas.

 To improve public perception of reptiles and amphibians
 To promote responsible pet ownership and exemplary animal welfare
 To deliver education that is “inclusive for all.”
 To promote positive values regarding companion animals and the responsibility of
pet care
What we do
 Reptile Rescue and Rehoming Services
o Taking in Sick, injured and unwanted reptiles -Finding, vetting and rehoming
reptiles
 Advice and Guidance
o Providing Advice and Guidance to reptile owners.
 Outreach and Education
o Going to Youth Clubs, Schools and Clubs to educate children/young people
about Reptiles
o Hosting events for the community, which will raise awareness of the charity
and the work we do.

About the role
We are looking for a qualified veterinary surgeon/professional to support The Sussex
Reptile Rescue Centre as a trustee & advisor.

Our trustees play a vital role in ensuring the Sussex Reptile Rescue Centre achieves its core
charitable purpose, overseeing the charity’s overall management and administration.

By joining as a trustee, you will help determine the charity’s overall direction and development
as a strong advocate for The Sussex Reptile Rescue Centre and our work.

As you champion our cause, you’ll continuously strive for best practice in all areas of your
role whilst effectively evaluating and mitigating risks, and ensuring compliance to legal
obligations under charity law.

Qualifications and accreditations

• A qualified veterinary professional, with a specialisation in reptiles
•  Specialisation working with amphibians is a bonus, but not essential.
•  Experienced committing to the requirements and expectations of a charity trustee

• Have excellent communication skills, with a willingness to participate actively in discussion and exercise sound independent judgement
•  Able to offer well-informed and pragmatic advise regarding the animals in our care,

putting their wellbeing and quality of life at the forefront.

•  Be willing and able to attend regular trustee meetings (6 per annum, held remotely)

Digital Trustee

Main responsibilities 

• Provide thought leadership on the role of digital in Easing Anxieties’ fundraising, marketing, communications, and help build and implement this vision.

• Highlight the opportunities and the risks of digital, in terms of our strategy in general, and in reference to [project name] in particular.

• Translate the risks and opportunities of digital for other trustees, to enable the board as a whole to engage in an informed way.

• Take the lead in evaluating proposals for the future of Easing Anxieties for the board.

• Provide strategic oversight of Easing Anxieties implementation.

• Champion the use of data in board discussions, and in driving the delivery and improvement of marketing/communications.

• Contribute to the work of [sub committee / working party].

• Draw on your networks to support our work.

• Help ensure that the executive / operations teams have the digital capabilities that they need to implement the strategy.

• Successful track record in digital marketing as a media consultant.

• Demonstrable and practical experience of social media dn digital media management..

• Ability to work as part of a team and willingness to take collective responsibility for the governance of our charity.

• Ability to work at a strategic level whilst understanding the detail and complexities of delivery, and the influencing skills needed to bring staff and stakeholders along with plans.

• Strong communicator – willing and able to help the board understand digital. 

• Ability to analyse risks and opportunities, and take a balanced approach to both.

• Extensive networks, and a willingness to draw on contacts as appropriate.

Terms of appointment

Terms of office

• Trustees are appointed for a [2] year term of office, renewal for [2] further terms to a maximum of [10] years.

• This is a voluntary position, but reasonable expenses will be reimbursed.

Time commitment

• Attending [4] Board meetings annually. Currently meetings are held remotely.

• You will be a member of a sub-committee which will meet [6] times in a year.

Cadet Group Leaders work directly with young people in St John Ambulance Badger Setts and Cadet Units. By organising a mixed weekly programme, this role will support the learning and development of young people into the next generation of health citizens. Youth Leaders also help young people develop their confidence, teamwork skills, self-discipline, and generally encourage them to strive to be the best they can be, as well as supervise and support other adult volunteers in their team.

You’ll get a huge sense of satisfaction and pride delivering an essential service. It’s great for you, great for your community and great for our nation, and it requires only a small commitment of your time.

Role Overview

As a Production Assistant, you will support the Video Production Manager and team in all stages of video production, focusing primarily on the pre and production phase. Your role will be crucial in ensuring that our video projects are well-planned and executed smoothly. You will be involved in tasks ranging from script writing to stage setting, ensuring that all necessary preparations are in place for successful video production.
 

Main Responsibilities

• Collaborate with the Video Production Manager to develop and refine scripts for various video projects, conducting research to gather relevant information and insights to inform script content and invite guests when necessary.

• Assist in planning and setting up stages for video shoots, including arranging props, lighting, and other necessary equipment, and coordinate with the production team to ensure all stage elements are in place.

• Work with the Video Production Manager to create detailed production schedules and timelines, and coordinate with cast, crew, and other stakeholders to ensure everyone is informed of shoot dates and times.

• Assist in identifying and securing suitable locations for video shoots, conducting site visits to assess the suitability of locations and addressing any logistical considerations.

• Organize and manage all production materials and resources, including scripts, shot lists, and production notes, ensuring all necessary permits and permissions are obtained for filming locations.

• Act as a point of contact between the pre/production team and other departments, ensuring smooth communication and collaboration, and provide regular updates to the Video Production Manager on the progress of pr/production tasks.

Essential

• Provide production assistance as needed (e.g. props, crafty, runner duties)
