Volunteering for Sense

Our amazing team of volunteers help us run over 100 shops across England and Wales.  Every donated item that you sort, prepare and sell helps to raise vital funds to support us in our mission to make sure no one, no matter how complex their disabilities, is isolated, left out, or unable to fulfil their potential. Our shops are at the heart of local communities – sharing the work of Sense, and helping to secure support for our life changing work.

What your role will involve

There are a variety of tasks that you can get involved with in the shop, including:

• Welcoming and assisting customers, providing great customer service and a fantastic shopping experience
• Receiving donated goods from members of the public
• Sorting, steaming, tagging and preparing donated goods for sale
• Creating eye catching window and in-shop displays
• Keeping the shop floor well stocked, tidy, clean and organised
• Processing sales and serving on the till
• Promoting Gift Aid and other Sense fundraising initiatives
• Acting as an ambassador for Sense; promoting the shop and Sense in your local community
• Supporting with the recruitment and training of new volunteers
• Following new health and safety measures to ensure the safety of everyone

In addition to practical support, we also provide information to families, and campaign for the rights of people with complex disabilities to take part in life.

Join our amazing volunteer team to raise awareness of the issues affecting blind and partially sighted people in relation to sport. You will give talks in person or virtually, sharing your own story to improve understanding of sight loss to sports clubs, sporting venues and facilities and community groups. You’ll be making a real difference to people living with sight loss by helping to improve accessibility and inclusivity, creating a sporting world without barriers.

What you’ll be doing
1. Talks to sports and physical activity providers to support and encourage them to consider the needs of blind and partially sighted people by sharing your story to audiences, for example, local leisure centres, sporting venues and sports clubs.
2. Delivering talks to raise awareness of existing sporting and physical activity opportunities for blind and partially sighted people.
3. Representing RNIB as an Ambassador for the Community Connection service.

Be comfortable speaking to different audiences to share your sporting story, or a willingness to try with our support. 4. Have effective communication skills. 5. An outgoing friendly approach to meeting new people

Lincs and Notts Air Ambulance (LNAA) is seeking a dynamic leader with chairing experience to lead them as their new Chair.

• Location: Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire

Who we are

We are proud to be a registered charity providing a Helicopter Emergency Medical Service (HEMS) 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to the people of Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire. Our highly skilled team of team of pilots, doctors and paramedics deliver life-saving skills, medicine and equipment directly to the scene of some of the most serious incidents and accidents to give patients the very best chance of survival and recovery.

Whether beachside, roadside or in the countryside, day or night, we are by the side of patients when they need us most.

About the role

We are looking for an individual with previous Chair of the Board experience who will work with fellow Trustees, the CEO and wider Leadership Team.

The Chair will lead the Board in holding the CEO and Leadership Team to account for the effective delivery of the charity’s vision, mission and strategy, as well as providing leadership to all Trustees to ensure they fulfil their duties and responsibilities for the effective governance of the charity. Through support and constructive challenge, the Chair will ensure the Board works cohesively with the CEO and the wider Leadership Team to achieve agreed objectives.

We are open to candidates who do not reside in Lincolnshire or Nottinghamshire. Ideally, candidates who do not live within our counties will be able to demonstrate a good understanding or knowledge of the counties.

We are seeking an experienced Chair and inclusive leader who can bring strategic insight, commitment and integrity to the leadership of our governance and Board.

In addition to chairing skills and a track record of executive and non-executive leadership, candidates must demonstrate a commitment to our purpose, mission, values and behaviours.

Are you a good listener? Are you able to manage group conversations and ensure people feel comfortable together and that groups run smoothly? We need you to facilitate our Talk and Support weekly telephone groups that offer blind and partially sighted people the opportunity to socialise with others when the regular group facilitator is unavailable. This is a telephone-based role that you can do from home. You will need access to a landline or mobile phone We ask you to commit to covering up to 3 groups per week, although this will vary on a week by week basis. Each group you cover will last for one hour.

Age UK operates charity shops to raise funds for the delivery of services for older people in need. Volunteers play a key role in the shop team, ensuring our shops are welcoming places in the community and selling the items that are generously donated to our organisation.

What skills, interests or experience might be helpful in this role?

We welcome applications from people with a wide range of skills and experiences. You don’t need any retail or shop experience as full training will be provided. What’s important to us is that you are a team player, open to learning, will follow Age UKs policies and be an excellent representative for the charity. We know that our shop teams are stronger when they are inclusive and representative of their communities, so we will do what we can to find a role which works for you.
