At Hope for the Young, our mission to support young refugees and asylum seekers in London as they overcome the many challenges of starting a new life in the UK. From navigating education systems to building confidence and social connections, our Volunteer Mentors play a crucial role in helping young people achieve their goals and fulfil their potential.

What You’ll Do as a Mentor

• Meet with a young person (mentee) once a week for 1–3 hours, usually in a local café, library, or community space in London

• Set education and personal development goals and offer guidance, support and motivation towards these

• Commit to mentoring for a minimum of six months

Who We’re Looking For

We welcome applications from people of different ages, cultural backgrounds, and professional experiences. You don’t need prior mentoring experience - just empathy, patience, and a genuine desire to support a young person.

We’re especially keen to build a diverse pool of mentors to reflect the backgrounds and experiences of the young people we support. We particularly welcome and encourage applications from those with lived experience of forced migration, as well those with ethnically diverse backgrounds.

Washington’s amazing grounds have a lot of infrastructure which requires regular maintenance. By volunteering your time with us you will be helping to ensure that Washington’s grounds are maintained to the highest standards for our visitors. We use resources creatively to maximum effect which is why we need enthusiastic and hardworking people to help with these daily tasks.

What will you be doing?

• This role will be varied and will involve a lot of daily maintenance/minor repair of the infrastructure throughout the Washington Centre grounds, including play areas, fencing, gateways and platforms.
• Use of a wide variety of hand tools and light power tools to carry out repairs.
• Assisting the wardens with any of their ongoing tasks.

Who are we looking for?

• Someone who is committed to great customer service and willing to engage with our visitors on an ad hoc in a friendly and welcoming way
• Someone who is able and willing to undertake a range of physical activities outside in all weathers.
• Previous experience with the use of hand tools would be an advantage, although not necessarily a necessity.
• Proactive and able to work with a minimum of supervision, under the direction of the grounds, reserve and living collection teams.
• Must have excellent communication skills and a positive attitude.

Overview of the role

Airdrie Foodbank are seeking someone with fundraising and grant applications experience at board level, ensuring that the Board of Trustees are aware of and kept up to date with any fundraising or grant developments and build a sound fundraising strategy as we move forward. This role involves leading on fundraising affairs for the food bank and ensuring that they are conducted within good practice frameworks.

Responsibilities

As a trustee you will share collective responsibility for the governance of the food bank and all decisions made by the board, ensuring the organisation is well run, fulfils its mission, is compliant with charity law and that the charity is open and accountable. It is also the responsibility of the treasurer to work in partnership with the chairperson and other trustees to ensure the financial viability and development of the organisation.

What will you be doing?

Trustee (Fund Raising & Grants Lead) responsibilities:

• to work alongside the director, treasurer and the rest of the board to plan what level of funds are required to be generated to ensure the effective running of the charity
• to work alongside the trustee board to ensure that all grants are sought and written with the purpose of meeting the charity’s vision and objectives
• to lead on the organisation of local fund-raising opportunities to support the running of the charity, including incorporating national Trussell fund raising campaigns/events throughout the year to oversee, with operational management support, the writing of high-quality grant applications that are in line with the charity’s vision and objectives
• to regularly communicate to the rest of the trustee board via trustee meetings or any other communication, any relevant information and/or developments regarding fund raising or grant applications.

Other responsibilities, along with the board of trustees, include:

• to approve, support, and guide the charity’s purpose, vision, strategy, goals and objectives

What will you be doing?

• To ensure the charity is accountable, actively complying with statutory accounting and reporting requirements and the law.
• To ensure appropriate financial plans are in place for future budget allocations as well as looking after contractual agreements with external partners that award money for core costs and additional projects.
• To help promote the organisation to a wide audience of potential funders and beneficiaries and community stakeholders.
• To ensure the food bank has appropriate procedures to: comply with current legislation and good practice; including employment, health and safety, equal opportunities, safeguarding & GDPR compliance/data protection etc.
• To act with reasonable care and skill, giving your time, thought and energy to your role.
• To prepare for and regularly attend and participate in board and subcommittee meetings and any trustee away days.
• To provide ad hoc support to the staff team and volunteers from time to time.
• To act at all times in accordance with the foodbank’s trustee code of conduct.

Trustees may also undertake additional work for the charity between meetings subject to their availability and skill set.

Moneyfacts Research Foundation (Charity No 1211382) is a newly formed charity and is looking for two additional trustees. It is supported and financed by Moneyfacts Group plc, the UK’s leading provider of Interest rate data.

Moneyfacts Research Foundation has been set up to widen research and knowledge of Interest rates – their use and effects.

Moneyfacts Research Foundation’s Objects are:

• To advance by all available means the education, research and understanding of economics and, in particular, interest rates, their use and purpose and their economic, monetary and domestic objectives and consequences
• The study of the skills and expertise required in interest rate setting, data collection and analysis

Trustee Duties

In addition to their statutory duties, Trustees will be expected to:

• Attend Board meetings 3-4 times a year, adequately prepared to contribute to discussions and scrutinise board papers.
• Offer advice and support to the board regarding the continuous development and improvement of Moneyfacts Research Foundation.
• To assist the board in networking within the sector.
• Use their knowledge and experience to help the board reach sound decisions.

Person Specification

We are looking for trustees willing to bring energy and enthusiasm to the role, who will widen the diversity of thinking on our board.

The ideal candidate will have:

• Previous experience in the finance sector.
• Willingness and ability to understand their responsibilities and liabilities as a trustee and to act in the best interests of the charity.
• Ability to think creatively and strategically.
• Ability to exercise independent judgement.
• Ability to work collaboratively as a board member.
• Good communication skills and willingness to participate actively in discussion.
• Enthusiasm for our vision and mission.

Terms of Appointment

• This is an appointment for an initial period of two years.
• This has to be an unpaid voluntary position because it is a charity, but all reasonable expenses will be reimbursed.
• Attend Board meetings 3-4 times a year. Currently meetings are held in person in Norwich.

The Charity’s main activity is the publication of INTEREST, a journal which comes out every 6 weeks to coincide with Bank of England Monetary Policy Committee meetings. 

All the above may sound a bit dry & boring, but actually we’re really quite nice!
