The Children’s Book Project is a grassroots charity, powered by volunteers at every stage of what we do. At our Book Sorting Hub at Seagulls LS11 9UD we would love you to join us as a Volunteer Coordinator, helping to oversee our regular book sorting events which take place during term time.

We are a very friendly bunch and you will be working as part of a small team working with our corporate groups. We try to give each group of volunteers the fullest insight into our work and so during the course of their time with us they will quality control, organise, sort and box books for delivery to schools ready to gift to children. Your role will be to lead them in these tasks to help them understand the value of their contribution and to help the day run smoothly.

The role

On any typical day with us this role might include:

Helping to set up for the day

Instructing small teams of volunteers how to check, sort or box books

Organising aspects of the day, for example having oversight of

donation packing requirements and ensuring these are met

Telling volunteers about our work and ways in which they can help

Who are we looking for?

Absolutely anyone can enjoy this role with us! You might have an interest in our aims, in children's books or in volunteering within your Local community. We are looking for people that enjoy communicating with others, working as part of a team and helping to make a tangible difference to the lives of children and young people throughout Leeds. The role can involve standing for periods of time so you should be mobile. You should have at least basic conversational English.

Anticipated commitment

Our shifts are 10.30 - 3.30pm, but we offer flexible commitments. Semi regular attendance helps us to plan but you can pick dates that work for you.

Ref: V254 | Service Group Supporter | West Kent

We’re looking for one or two service group supporters over the age of 18 years old, based at Beefeater, Hilden Manor, Hildenborough, TN10 3AN. 

You’ll be volunteering, fortnightly, on a Friday between 10:00am and 11:30am.

As a stroke group supporter you will be part of a team assisting in the running of one (or more) of these service groups and in doing so you help make a real difference to the lives of stroke survivors.

The volunteers will:

· Support people to take part in activities organised for the group.

· Assist our staff in arranging activities for the group, providing information and researching local activity options.

· Meet and greet group members and support our staff in setting-up and clearing away venues for group meetings.

· Help with other tasks to help the group run smoothly such as risk assessments and gathering feedback from people who attend.

· You might also assist stroke survivors in developing their communication skills in small groups. You would be willing to learn and use the technique, called ‘supported conversation’, that is used to support people with communication difficulties.

A Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check is required for this role.

Role Description

Join Off The Record, an independent charity that has been proudly serving the Havant Borough area since 1977. Our mission is to empower young people and their families in South East Hampshire by supporting their emotional health and well-being. We provide vital one-on-one and family counseling, support, a young carers project and group services for individuals aged 8-25 and their families.

If you are passionate about making a difference in the lives of young people, we invite you to volunteer with us at our main office, located at 138 Purbrook Way, Leigh Park. We are currently seeking dedicated volunteers to support our counseling service by answering phones, providing information, engaging in friendly conversations, and offering signposting advice to clients awaiting our services and also opportunities to assist with awareness events and our group activities and young carers services.

Compassionate Neighbours are trained volunteers offering friendship, support and listening ear to people living in their local community, sometimes with serious, long-term or terminal illness who often struggle with loneliness.

By popping round for a cup of tea or a friendly chat once a week you can make a world of difference. You will be a good listener, kind and have a genuine interest in other people.

As a Compassionate Neighbour Volunteer you’ll not only gain new skills, confidence, and social networks; you’ll be making a difference in your local community.

Full training and support is provided. Training for our next intake will be held at the Hospice on the following dates:

Time expectation

Our fundraising team leaders usually spend three to four hours per week in this role, which is flexible and can be shared by more than one volunteer if needed.

Our Branch is seeking a new Treasurer for our Committee. We would love to hear from a finance professional with a passion for animal welfare!

About us:

RSPCA Lincolnshire Mid, NE & Lincoln Branch rehabilitates and re-homes animals rescued by the RSPCA's national Inspectors. We also promote responsible pet ownership and hold animal action days such as for microchipping.

We currently run three charity shops and regular fundraising events, to rehabilitate more than 100 animals each year, and help them find their forever home.

Our Branch is extremely passionate with twelve Trustees currently forming the Committee.

We have a very strong financial position, with excellent controls, having had the support of a dedicated Treasurer for over 10 years. We are now looking for her successor and would love to hear from you!

What is involved? 

As a Trustee of an RSPCA Branch you will have the chance to influence how we care for and prevent cruelty to animals. 

Our Treasurer acts as principal financial trustee maintaining and administering the accounts of the branch.

What you can bring to our board:

You will have a professional finance qualification or be working towards one, such as CIMA or ACCA. You will ideally have charity finance experience, such as an understanding of gift aid, charity commission reporting requirements and restricted funds.

You will have experience of using finance software, with Xero experience being particularly desirable as it is our current software. You will also be familiar with how HMRC rules work, i.e., PAYE, Employer’s National Insurance and charity rules in respect of VAT.

Our Treasurer is a key role, with responsibilities to:

• implement and maintain sound financial systems in order to retain full control of branch funds.

• take a lead role in ensuring the committee set annual financial budgets and forward plan the branch income and expenditure so that the accounts balance in the long term.

• provide a written financial report for every branch meeting showing the branch’s income and expenditure since the last meeting.

• liaise with auditors/independent examiner regarding the production of the annual branch accounts and treasurer’s report for the AGM, including SORP statement.

• maintain control of all bank accounts as authorised by the committee. 

• execute and operate branch committee financial decisions and act as branch co-signatory on all branch cheques, if required.

• make quarterly VAT returns via the Branch’s Xero accounting system.

Working with our Branch Manager, the Treasurer will also: 

• maintain control over all branch debit/credit cards, paying-in books and receipt books and to ensure their correct use.

• ensure correct responsibility for the branch network of collection boxes.

• arrange payment of the annual branch contribution to the appropriate RSPCA fund.

• coordinate financial control of all branch fundraising activities.

• ensure the retention and safekeeping of all branch financial documentation for the appropriate time as set by the charity commission.

Additionally, in conjunction with your fellow trustees, our Treasurer will:

• conduct regular reviews of the branch accounts and investment portfolio to ensure the best return on branch funds.

• ensure the production, monitoring and annual review of the branch’s financial risk management strategy in accordance with the charity commission’s requirements.

• liaise with Branch officers and Branch Partnership Manager on financial affairs as necessary and alert them immediately to any possible difficulties or irregularities.

Things to know about the role

You will ideally live and/or work in our branch area in Lincolnshire, UK, to bring local insight to our branch decisions. Our branch covers the city of Lincoln, out to Mablethorpe, Woodhall Spa and Gainsborough, and all the way up to Grimsby. 

We meet monthly as a board, with most of these online but we like to also meet at least 3 times each year in-person, including our AGM, as well as support local fundraising events.
