Connection Support has a range of services providing support to people at risk of homelessness or on the edge of needing social care. We work with people made vulnerable through debt, mental health issues, substance misuse, learning disability, and physical disabilities.
Volunteers play a key role in the provision of vital services to our clients.
Could you prevent loneliness and isolation in your community and become a befriender?
- Do you have 2-3 hours a week to give to a client suffering from loneliness or mental health? (For a mutual agreement of time and locations that meet clients’ needs)
- Can you offer support, through a listening ear and be a positive influence in a client’s life to help build self-esteem and confidence?
- Will you enable our clients to benefit from knowing someone is there to listen, be a friend, and check in on their wellbeing?

Key responsibilities
Your role will include, but is not restricted to the following tasks:
- Carry out weekly checks with the clients you are supporting. This can be in a variety of settings, e.g., family home, support home, or in the community (via face-to-face meetings, phone or video calls)
- Have fun, take clients on outings, and maybe share a hobby, sport, or an interest
- Collect prescriptions for clients and assist with their weekly shop
- Help clients rediscover social skills and confidence by building up and maintaining a close relationship
- Report any concerns to the Volunteer Coordinator

About MORSE (Making Our Road Safer for Everyone):
The MORSE service supports individuals who have either committed a driving offence or through local Police intelligence are identified at being at risk of committing an offence. The aims of the service are to reduce the amount of road traffic offences being committed on our roads, which in turn will reduce the number of collisions, injuries and fatalities. Included in the support is the delivery of a Road Safety Programme which focuses on the individual’s behaviour whilst they are driving.
MORSE is delivered in partnership with the Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service, Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service and West Mercia Police.
Role overview / Main tasks:
- Attend Road Safety sessions and events, working in partnership with other agencies
- Provide administrative support on managing referrals
- Promote MORSE to mature drivers and facilitate one-on-one interventions
What we’re looking for:
- Ability to travel to events across locations (full driving license and access to a vehicle)
- Confidence/Ability to promote the service and discuss road safety with people of all ages
- Good communication skills

Befriend a housebound older person at their home near you in Coventry - any day or time, from 30 min/fortnight. You'll be carefully matched by shared interests & supported.
Befriending an older person in your local area takes just 30-60 minutes, fortnightly or weekly. It fits into your life, and you gain a new friend. You can learn more about Coventry life & history, and feel great that you've made a housebound older person feel less lonely. Volunteers and older people come from all backgrounds. They could take short walks, bake together, watch sport together, discuss literature, learn to crochet...
You will be carefully matched by your shared hobbies and interests, and logistical factors such as shared language, how close to home or work you'd like to be, and when you'd each like to chat. Support is available at any time, should you need it.
Visits can take place during evenings & weekends, though our most popular request is for daytime visits. We also offer telephone befriending. Volunteers must be 18+, but children can come along when accompanied. Dogs are welcome too!
Visits can simply include chat and a cuppa, or can involve going for a short walk together, doing crafts, playing games, gardening together, or watching sport. It's up to you!

Our Challenge
Brain tumours do not discriminate and they do not respect boundaries. They can strike anyone, at any age. And they strike quickly.
At The Brain Tumour Charity, we aim to address the clear gap in emotional support available to those affected by a brain tumour diagnosis, by expanding our counselling service. We know the difference that talking therapy can make to the brain tumour community and our goal is to reach more people, ensuring everyone that wants it, gets the support that they need.
How can you help?
As a Volunteer Counsellor for this service, you would work with a wide range of clients who either have a brain tumour diagnosis themselves, or have a loved one who has been diagnosed. This includes patients/carers who have been newly diagnosed, to those in/post treatment, to people at end of life, or bereaved.
This is a remote service, where we offer up to 8 free sessions to clients, delivered by either telephone or webcam.
We’re looking for counsellors who:
- Are qualified with a minimum of a Level 4 Diploma in Counselling
- Are integrative or person-centred counsellors
- Are a member of the BACP (or equivalent ethical body)
- Are committed to attend monthly clinical supervision
- Have an interest in working with people affected by a brain tumour and possibly experience of working with clients in a similar field. (Eg. Neurological conditions, palliative care, bereavement, etc.)
- Have the IT abilities to be able to maintain appropriate and accurate records on our counselling database.
- Have experience of working remotely, via telephone or webcam and is happy to use their own laptop, phone and WIFI for their client work.
- Have their own public liability insurance (or are willing to obtain this.)

The service operates between the hours of 9am—5pm, Monday-Friday and you will be required to see clients within these hours.
Practical Considerations
Shortlisted applicants will be asked to attend an interview with our Counselling Service Manager and Counselling Service Officer.
Successful candidates will then receive a full induction to The Brain Tumour Charity and any specific training for the role, as well as ongoing support from one of the team.
We will carry out reference and DBS checks for all successful applicants and you will be required to complete some internal data protection and disclosure documentation before commencing the role.

Time commitment: The full Board meets every 2 months and meetings last for about 2.5 hours. In addition, Board members are expected to be members of at least one sub committees. These meet when needed but typically monthly.

ExtraCare is seeking a new Chair of the Audit & Assurance Committee to lead the Committee in providing rigorous oversight of risk, governance, and financial controls, ensuring the charity operates with integrity and in full compliance with regulatory requirements. The charity welcomes applications from individuals with a wide variety of backgrounds to help enhance the diversity of the Board.
Person Specification

Senior leadership or Board-level experience, and/or prior service as Chair or member of an Audit Committee.

Strong business acumen, including strategic financial planning and awareness, with a sound understanding and background in audit and finance. A relevant financial qualification is desirable but not essential, provided at least one other Committee member holds such a qualification or background.

Working knowledge of the Audit Committee’s role, internal and external audit processes, audit practice, and risk management frameworks.

Sound governance knowledge and experience operating with a high level of accountability in a regulated sector.

Ability to chair meetings impartially, effectively, and inclusively.
