About the role

As Treasurer, you will chair the Finance Committee to ensure robust financial management and oversight across a diverse portfolio of services. You will also join the Investment Committee, serving as a standing member of the Audit Committee, to ensure the appropriate scrutiny of risk and financial stewardship.

Your role will involve providing strategic financial guidance to support Coram’s continued growth, overseeing risk assessment processes and financial controls, and supporting the CEO and Finance Director in presenting comprehensive financial information to the Board. You’ll be instrumental in advising the trustee body on the financial implications of our strategy and policy objectives.

Who we are looking for

We are seeking an experienced finance professional to provide strategic financial oversight for a dynamic charity group . We need someone with demonstrable senior finance experience and expertise in financial management and strategy at board level. You should have previous experience as a trustee or treasurer of a charity, combined with commercial acumen and board-level experience in a complex organisation.

Your background should include an understanding of group structures and organisations with diverse income streams. You will also have a strategic mindset and be genuinely aligned with Coram’s mission and values, bringing flexibility and responsiveness to the role.

You’ll be joining us at an exciting time as we develop the Coram Institute for Children and continue expanding our reach and impact across the group. This is your chance as an established finance leader to make a positive change for children in the UK and beyond.

• Time commitment

The role involves approximately 15 meetings per year, each lasting around 2 hours. This includes 4 Board meetings and 4 Finance Committee meetings, typically held in the morning. 4 Investment Committee meetings are usually held in the late afternoon, 2 Audit Committee meetings and 1 Annual Court meeting in the late afternoon or early evening. This also includes meeting and liaison with the CFO and the Group Directors.

Most meetings are held in person at our historic Coram Campus in Bloomsbury, with occasional hybrid attendance available. Meeting timings are scheduled flexibly to accommodate trustees’ availability, and we work hard to ensure the schedule works for all our volunteer trustees.

Trustee - Role Description

Duties of a Trustee are as follows:

• To ensure that Action for ME complies with its Memorandum and Articles of Association,charity law, company law and any other relevant legislation or regulations
• To ensure that Action for ME pursues its charitable objects as defined in its Memorandum of Association
• To ensure Action for ME applies its resources exclusively in pursuance of its objectives
• To contribute actively to the Board of Trustees role in establishing a clear and sharedvision for Action for ME, giving firm strategic direction, setting overall policy, defining goals, setting targets and evaluating performance against the agreed targets
• To act in the interests of Action for ME and for people with ME in general
• To safeguard the good name and values of Action for METo ensure the effective and efficient administration of Action for ME
• To ensure the financial stability of Action for ME
• To protect and manage the property of Action for ME and to ensure the proper investment of charity funds
• To appoint the Chief Executive and to monitor his or her performance and determine his or her remuneration.
• In addition to the above statutory duties of all Trustees, each Trustee should use any specific knowledge or experience they have to help the Board of Trustees reach sound decisions
• To represent Action for ME as appropriate.

Time Commitment:
The time commitment expected of a Trustee is approximately six days per annum, including an AGM, preparing for and attending Board meetings, and involvement in at least one of the sub-committees: Audit, Finance & Fundraising; Public Affairs & Communications; Research; Healthcare Services; or Remunerations & Nominations.

We hold an away day once every two years. Additional time may be required dependent on circumstances/needs. You will receive a full induction and support upon appointment.

We do ask that Trustees make a commitment to at least one, three-year term of office.

About us

The Maudsley Hospital in Camberwell first opened in 1915, initially as a military hospital and then in 1923 as a psychiatric hospital. The hospital is home to both inpatient and outpatient services for children and adults. We provide more than 240 services to people in our local communities as well as being the UK's leading provider of national and specialist services.

About the role

We run a Clothes Bank for service users who are on the wards and may not have access to multiple items of clothing. The Clothes Bank currently relies on donations from staff at the Trust, and volunteers who sort the donated stock and bring it to service users on the wards. For this project, we need 2-4 volunteers who can commit each week on Wednesdays to help with this.

The role involves going up to the wards, speaking to ward staff to ask what items of clothing their service users need this week, and returning to the Community Link Centre where the donated clothes are kept and sorting the stock. This involves good organisational skills and teamworking ability, as you'll be working with other volunteers to make this happen. It's a really fun way to do a lot of good in a few hours, meet likeminded people and develop some new skills.

About you

This is an ideal role for anybody interested in building skills in administration, communication, organisation, and teamwork, and for anyone interested in fashion, sustainability, and mental health. There is a lot of scope for the volunteer to shape the future of the clothes bank and bring new ideas to improve its efficiency and drive donations, as well as potentially offer a more bespoke dressing service. Ultimately, if you believe in the power clothes can have in helping one feel their best, this role could be for you.

Key details

This role is available on Wednesdays between 9:00am-1:00pm and 2:00pm-5:00pm. The expected commitment is 2-3 hours a week, for a minimum of 9 months. This role is suitable for volunteers who are 18 years or older. People with lived experience of mental health conditions are encouraged to apply.

We're building a diverse community of tutors passionate about educational equity. We are seeking dedicated volunteers from all walks of life to tutor and support pupils facing socio-economic disadvantage in maths and English.

As a volunteer tutor, you’ll:

This role is for people who already have some previous experience in people facing roles. We are looking for people who have empathy, are good listeners and are non-judgemental. You will be supporting a small number of clients who have more complex needs and require extra support to get through difficult situations. We are looking for people who have two to four hours a week to spare. You will be offered support in this role by the Partnership.

Support clients by:

• Providing moral support in meetings and making sure the client understands.
• Making phone calls or supporting a client to make calls.
• Helping with form filling and letter writing
• Working with clients on solutions to more complex issues e.g. debt.

Befriending Networks, the world’s largest network of befriending projects, is recruiting two trustees to help us champion the vital role of befriending in reducing loneliness and social isolation.

Around 1 in 6 people worldwide experience loneliness. Befriending services respond to this need by matching people in their communities for planned social activities that build meaningful connections.

Befriending Networks supports over 300 member organisations to deliver quality befriending services, through sector-specific training, events, resources, awards and 1:1 support. 

As a Befriending Networks trustee, you will be part of a welcoming and active board that enables befriending services across the UK and beyond to thrive. You will join us at an exciting time, as we begin to deliver our next strategic steps as an organisation. 

Following a recent board skills review, we are seeking two individuals who can offer skills in the following areas: 

• Income generation – This trustee will have an enterprising mindset, with experience of strategic fundraising, working with grantmakers, trusts and foundations or devising corporate sponsorships. Their guidance will help our charity to move into new ways of generating income, allowing us to become more resilient and advance our vision for a society where the importance of meaningful connections is valued. 
   
• Sector influence and advocacy – This trustee will be a great communicator, with a skill for forming and sustaining effective relationships. They will have a broad professional network which might include national or international connections. They may have connections which include the private sector, academia, thinktanks or investors interested in making social impact. Their experience might include research, policy making or campaigning. Their guidance will help us advocate for the befriending sector with greater impact and effectiveness. 

By joining the Befriending Networks board, you will play an integral role in moving our charity forward and helping us champion the impact of befriending on loneliness and isolation.  If you have the skills we’re looking for and are energised by working collaboratively to help organisations (and others) succeed, we’d love to hear from you.

Wekume

Wekume is a comprehensive mobile app designed to provide university students in Uganda with seamless access to reproductive health services, including counseling, testing, products, and health education, while also offering personal development resources like business incubation and career-building opportunities.

Challenges we address

• Limited Access to Reproductive Health Services: Many university students in Uganda face barriers such as stigma, limited health resources, and lack of awareness, which prevent them from accessing essential services like family planning, STI testing, and HIV prevention.

• Stigma and Misinformation about Sexual Health: In my Ugandan community, discussions about sexual and reproductive health are often taboo, leading to misinformation and fear.

• Youth Unemployment and Lack of Opportunities: Beyond facing rigid access to reproductive health, there's a lot of unemployment among student

• Inclusivity for Vulnerable and Minority Groups: These marginalised groups include refugees and students with disabilities.

How we address them

• Convenient Access to Reproductive Health Services: Wekume provides a centralized mobile platform that enables students to easily obtain sexual and reproductive health information without the need to visit healthcare facilities in person. This includes:
  SafeChat: Anonymous virtual counseling services aimed at reducing stigma and promoting open discussions about reproductive health issues.
  QuickTest: A feature that allows students to schedule HIV testing and receive their results quickly.
  ARV Corner: Offers information and support regarding anti-retroviral treatment for students living with HIV.
  Circumcision: This initiative seeks to promote better health outcomes among students in the battle against HIV and enhance efforts against cervical cancer.

• Support for Business Development and Entrepreneurship:
  Wekume aims to establish an incubator model that leverages reproductive health to provide resources for students to develop business ideas, pilot projects, and create sustainable enterprises. This includes mentorship, workshops, and fundraising tools that empower students to turn their concepts into reality.

• Exchange Programs and Internship Opportunities:
  Wekume intends to facilitate exchange programs throughout Uganda to expose students to diverse regions and cultures, encouraging mindset changes and personal development. The platform will also connect students with internship and volunteer opportunities both locally and around the world.

Events Manager

Volunteer Role Description (remote, unpaid)

The Events Manager will play a central role in designing, organizing, and delivering impactful in-person and virtual events that align with WEKUME’s mission. These events include university engagements, outreach activities, networking forums, and capacity-building sessions. The Events Manager will coordinate logistics, lead cross-functional collaboration, and ensure smooth execution of all event activities.

Key Responsibilities

• Coordinate between the Events Team and other stakeholders within Wekume to ensure the success of Wekume events.
• Schedule and lead Event planning meetings before every event to ensure clear purpose, messaging, and goals are established.
• Schedule and lead Event debriefs, to evaluate the results of each event against the stated plans determined during the planning meeting.
• Document and evaluate each event, collecting feedback and reporting key outcomes to inform future planning.
• Supervise on-site event staff and volunteers, ensuring seamless delivery and attendee experience.
• Lead the Events team, exemplifying Wekume values, to ensure fulfillment of the following responsibilities of the Events Team: Plan and execute Wekume events, including campus activations, partner forums, outreach programs, and stakeholder dialogues.
• Ensure coordination with universities, student groups, and partner organizations to coordinate joint events and initiatives.
• Handle end-to-end logistics such as venue booking, catering, transport, equipment setup, and volunteer coordination.
• Develop event budgets, monitor expenses, and ensure cost-effective delivery within budgetary limits.
• Collaborate with the fundraising and communications teams to align events with strategic goals and donor expectations.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant safety, accessibility, and ethical standards during events.

Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Event Management, Communications, Public Relations, Community Development, or a related field. Minimum 2 years’ experience organizing events, preferably in a non-profit, university, or youth-focused context. Strong organizational and multitasking abilities with excellent attention to detail. Strong interpersonal and communication skills; confident working with diverse stakeholders including students, faculty, civil society, and government officials. Proficiency in Microsoft Office/Google Workspace; familiarity with event management tools and social media promotion. Willingness to travel and work evenings/weekends as needed.

At St John Ambulance, we are looking to develop our volunteering offer and become an even more integral part of our communities through delivering community first aid and education. 

We need people who have a passion for helping others, care about their communities and want to make a difference, supporting them to become safe and more resilient by sharing your first aid skills and knowledge. As a Community First Aider, you’ll deliver first aid to those in need through local events, as well as provide education to the public so that the ripple effect of First Aid grows.

Through supporting the growth of community partnerships, you will bring people along to our cause, growing our membership and fundraising base and spreading the message that First Aid Saves Lives. 

Through volunteering as a Community First Aider, you’ll get a huge sense of satisfaction and pride delivering an essential service. It’s great for you, great for your community and great for our nation, and it requires only a small commitment of your time. 

We will make sure you will have access to a proper induction to volunteering with SJA and the training you need for the role you take on. We will also provide you with a supportive environment while you are volunteering with us. Information about our volunteer roles are included in the role descriptions. What you can expect from SJA, and what we expect from those who volunteer with us, is included in the volunteer charter.

We meet at Pegasus House in Leicester on Tuesday evenings. There is no requirement to attend every week.

We will be holding selection events on the following dates: 21st/22nd June, 19th/20th July, 23rd/24th August, 20th/21st September.

You will need to attend a Community First Aid course - 2 Days (Typically a Weekend) delivered at Pegasus House in Leicester.

Independent Visitor Volunteer

Our Independent Visitor Volunteers provide consistent and supportive relationships to children ad young people in care, offering emotional support, companionship, and guidance through shared activities and time together.  The Independent Visitor plays a vital role in helping the young people build confidence and feel secure while enhancing their personal, social, and cultural development.

As an Independent Visitor Volunteer in England, you might:

• support the child/young person to experience enriching activities that contribute to their personal and cultural development

• engage in activities such as pursuing hobbies, meeting for meals, or socialising in a community setting

• listen to and support the young person, fostering a sense of safety and trust

• help the young person develop social skills and increase their involvement in their community

• develop a positive and lasting relationship, ensuring the young person feels valued and supported

You will need to be over 18 years old and be living in the UK. Please note that the Independent Visitor Volunteers generally volunteer at evening and weekends due to the children’s and young person’s availability.

Using your knowledge of the Education Sector you will build strong partnerships with schools and colleges to deliver nutrition and lifestyle based interventions that inspire children and young adults to eat more real and natural food!

What will you be doing?

In this immensely important and pivotal role within CFK you will: 

• Build a team of like-minded volunteers who have a good understanding of the education sector including how schools run, the curriculum and the most effective ways of educating and inspiring children and their families
• Lead and inspire your team to design, refine and deliver inspiring interventions
• Design and develop strategies to support the achievement of the CFK project goals
• Lead the design, delivery and implementation of interventions within school settings
• Build strong relationships with current and potential intervention sites (i.e. schools), strategic partners and other CFK Teams

What are we looking for?

About You

To be successful in this role you will have:

• Experience working with children, educators / teachers and parents in school settings 
• A clear and visible passion for improving the health and wellbeing of children through nutrition and lifestyle
• Some formal training in working with children, for example as teacher, Head Teacher, teaching assistant, educationalist, health/sport coach
• Strong management and leadership experience and skills  
• A natural ability to inspire others 
• Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage projects effectively
• Articulate written, visual and verbal communicator - fluency in English is essential 
• Experience and interest in working with authorities (ideal but not essential)

As a team of volunteers, we are ever so grateful to everyone who agrees to contribute some of their valuable time to the project. As a Team Leader we ask for a commitment of 5-6 hours per week (on average). 

All are voluntary positions with no remuneration offered other than what we hope will be a huge amount of job satisfaction and fun, working with like-minded people with a passion for making a real difference to future generations.

As the leader of the 'Schools Delivery Team' you will effectively develop and lead a team of like minded volunteers whose inspiring creativity and ideas will improve the health and happiness of children and their families, not just now but for generations to come!

This role will be to act as a teaching assistant to tutors delivering ESOL/ English classes for learners 19+.
