Our amazing team of volunteers help us run over 100 shops across England and Wales.  Every donated item that you sort, prepare and sell helps to raise vital funds to support us in our mission to make sure no one, no matter how complex their disabilities, is isolated, left out, or unable to fulfil their potential. Our shops are at the heart of local communities – sharing the work of Sense, and helping to secure support for our life changing work.

What your role will involve

There are a variety of tasks that you can get involved with in the shop, including:

• Welcoming and assisting customers, providing great customer service and a fantastic shopping experience
• Receiving donated goods from members of the public
• Sorting, steaming, tagging and preparing donated goods for sale
• Creating eye catching window and in-shop displays
• Keeping the shop floor well stocked, tidy, clean and organised
• Processing sales and serving on the till
• Promoting Gift Aid and other Sense fundraising initiatives
• Acting as an ambassador for Sense; promoting the shop and Sense in your local community
• Supporting with the recruitment and training of new volunteers
• Following new health and safety measures to ensure the safety of everyone

We're building a diverse community of tutors passionate about educational equity. We are seeking dedicated volunteers from all walks of life to tutor and support pupils facing socio-economic disadvantage in maths and English.

As a volunteer tutor, you’ll:

• Tutor a group of 1-3 pupils (primary or secondary), with options to support online or in-person.

• Dedicate just one hour a week for a 10-20 week programme.

We provide the resources - you bring your enthusiasm! You’ll use our workbooks to deliver your sessions.

Whether you're a university student, a working professional, retired or simply looking to give back, your hour a week can open doors to brighter futures for these young people and make a lasting impact.

What you'll gain:

• Comprehensive training (2-hour induction, technical training for online tutors, optional further skills training).

• Ongoing support from your dedicated programme coordinator.

We look for volunteers with:

• Solid subject knowledge in the area they wish to tutor, which may be demonstrated by a degree or grade B at A-level qualification (or equivalent) or relevant experience.

• The ability to explain concepts clearly and patiently.

• A commitment to supporting pupils’ academic progress.

We recognise that valuable experience can be gained through diverse routes. If your qualifications differ from those mentioned, we still encourage you to apply. Please highlight any relevant experience or skills in your application.

Bright Futures UK is looking for passionate and knowledgeable KS3 Science tutors to provide educational support and a fun, safe learning environment for young people living with long-term illnesses. 

What will you be doing? 

• Run tutoring sessions online to support a young person. 
• Offer subject area knowledge and expertise related to KS3 Science. 
• Help to combat social isolation through fun and engaging tutoring sessions. 

What are we looking for? 

• Subject Knowledge: Strong understanding of KS2 and KS3 Science concepts and specifications.

Kingsbridge, Devon – Harbour House, a vibrant hub for creativity, wellbeing, and community in the heart of Kingsbridge, is seeking two new members to join its Board of Trustees. These voluntary roles—General Board Member and Treasurer—offer a meaningful opportunity to contribute to the strategic direction of a much-loved local organisation.

Harbour House’s dynamic board brings together individuals with a wide range of backgrounds, skills, and experiences. The organisation is now looking to further diversify and strengthen its leadership as it works towards an ambitious and community-focused future.

Role purpose:
To contribute to the board’s role by...

• Acting in the best interest of Hospiscare and its beneficiaries
• Acting as an ambassador and spokesperson for the charity.
• Providing strategic direction, setting overall policy, defining desired outcomes, setting targets, and evaluating performance against targets
• Working closely with the Executive Team, whilst retaining independent oversight of activities
• Holding the Executive Team to account
• Ensuring that Hospiscare complies with its governing document, charity law, company law and any other relevant legislation or regulations
• Ensuring that Hospiscare pursues its objectives as defined in its governing document.
• Ensuring that resources are used exclusively in pursuance of its objectives, charitable purposes, long-term financial viability, and the safeguarding of assets.

Role details:

Time commitment/location:
Trustees will be expected to attend four board meetings, circa four
committee meetings and one to two away days a year and be fully
prepared for these meetings. These meetings start at 4pm on a
Tuesday and are held at Searle House in Exeter. We also have sub-
committees and trustees are encouraged to join where their
skills/experience will had specific value.
Trustees are expected to travel within the area served by
Hospiscare and occasionally out of area.
Term:
Trustees are appointed for a three-year term and may serve a
maximum of three terms.

About The Girls’ Learning Trust

The Girls’ Learning Trust (GLT) is a large all-girls multi-academy trust, comprising three high-performing schools: Carshalton High School for Girls, Nonsuch High School for Girls and Wallington High School for Girls. Each school maintains a strong identity and autonomy while benefiting from shared governance, support services and collaboration through the Trust.

About the role

We seek to appoint a Chair of the Trust Board who can provide strategic leadership to the Girls’ Learning Trust during a period of development and change.

The Chair will lead us collectively to set the tone, expectations and culture of the Board. You will lead the governance of the Trust, working closely with the Chief Executive and fellow Trustees to oversee our strategic direction, performance, safeguarding and compliance. This includes championing our new Trust Strategy, ensuring that executive leaders are held to account for educational standards and financial risk outcomes and supporting the Trust to grow sustainably.

Who we are looking for

If you are an experienced leader with the time and commitment to contribute to a growing and ambitious Trust, we would be delighted to hear from you. While prior experience in education is welcome, it is not essential – we value strategic thinking, integrity and a collaborative spirit.

This role requires both strategic vision and a practical, hands-on approach. You’ll need to be available for regular meetings and occasional urgent issues, and you’ll be supported by a professional governance lead who manages scheduling, papers and compliance.

• Is passionate about educational equity, especially the value of girls’ education in creating confident, future-ready young women.

• Is committed to inclusion and values diverse perspectives.
