Activate Performing Arts (Activate) is a 35-year-old arts charity that brings contemporary performance to communities and landscapes across Dorset, the UK and Europe. Activate is known for its free-to-access outdoor arts, festivals and touring work, driven by a belief in creativity as a public good, connecting people, place and artistic expression.
With a strong commitment to access, equity, environmental responsibility and artistic ambition, Activate is entering an important period of evolution. The organisation is looking ahead to its next phase of development, including shaping a new 3–5-year strategy and preparing for its next Arts Council England National Portfolio application.
Activate is now seeking a new Chair of Trustees to provide thoughtful, inclusive leadership to the Board and support the Artistic & Executive Director as the organisation builds on its achievements and strengthens its future direction. Working closely with the Artistic & Executive Director, trustees and wider stakeholders, the Chair will help ensure Activate remains creative, resilient, well-governed and ambitious in its impact.

Fort Amherst Heritage Trust cares for Fort Amherst in Chatham, Kent, preserving an important historic site and making it available for the benefit, enjoyment and education of the wider community. The Trust relies heavily on volunteers to help maintain, restore, interpret and promote the site for present and future generations.
Role Purpose
Trustees are collectively responsible for the governance, strategic direction and long-term sustainability of Fort Amherst Heritage Trust. As a Trustee, you will help ensure that the charity fulfils its charitable purposes, complies with its legal duties and makes decisions in the best interests of the Trust and the communities it serves.
Key Responsibilities
· Work with fellow Trustees to set and review the Trust’s vision, strategy and priorities.
· Ensure the Trust carries out its charitable purposes for the public benefit.
· Oversee the responsible management of the Trust’s finances, assets, buildings, grounds and collections.
· Support good governance by complying with the Trust’s governing document, charity law and relevant regulations.
· Monitor risks, policies and procedures, including health and safety, safeguarding, finance, data protection and volunteer management.
· Contribute to discussions and decisions at Board meetings, reading papers in advance and offering constructive challenge and support.
· Act as an ambassador for Fort Amherst, promoting its heritage, community value and volunteer-led work.
· Support fundraising, partnership development and community engagement where appropriate.
· Declare and manage any conflicts of interest and maintain confidentiality where required.
Skills and Experience
We welcome applications from people with a commitment to heritage, community benefit and good governance. Previous trustee experience is helpful but not essential. The Trust is particularly interested in people who can bring one or more of the following areas of experience:
· Heritage, museums, archives, conservation or historic buildings.
· Finance, fundraising, grant applications or business planning.
· Education, learning, interpretation or visitor experience.
· Volunteer management, community engagement or inclusion.

As Treasurer, you will oversee the financial heartbeat of the Lyonic Scots. Your work ensures our projects thrive, our community grows, and our heritage endures.
You will:
Maintain clear, accurate financial records
Manage membership fees, donations, and Clan funds
Prepare simple financial reports for the Council
Support budgeting for cultural projects and events
Ensure compliance with UK community‑group and charity‑style standards
Advise the Council on sustainability and long‑term planning
Your leadership will help guide the Clan with transparency, wisdom, and honour.

Volunteer Role | Lyonic Scots Society
Do you love history, heritage, and uncovering the stories that make a community unique?
Are you someone who enjoys organising information, digging into the past, and helping keep traditions alive?
Then we’d be honoured to welcome you as our Clan Historian / Archivist.
You don’t need to be Scottish or have Scottish ancestry — just a passion for history, good organisation, and a desire to help the Lyonic Scots Society support the Clan Chief in preserving and promoting our heritage.
What You’ll Be Doing
Researching and recording the history of the Lyonic Scots.
Collecting, organising, and preserving documents, stories, and historical materials.
Helping build and maintain our Society archives.
Supporting the committee with historical context for projects and events.
Sharing historical insights with members and the wider community.
Helping ensure our heritage is protected for future generations.
What We’re Looking For
Someone curious, organised, and passionate about history.
Comfortable researching, documenting, and storing information.
A clear communicator who enjoys sharing knowledge.
