Psychology Student/Graduate Work Experience

HoardingUK (HUK) is looking for volunteer helpline workers to join our Telephone Helpline Service providing support for adults, carers and family members across the UK who are impacted by hoarding behaviour. Often this is the first point of entry for people seeking advice.  This can be an initial step leading to ongoing engagement or an answer providing relevant information empowering informed actions.

 About the role:

You will be providing support for people impacted by hoarding behaviour who may be facing a variety of situations including legal, financial, psychological and discriminatory abuse and neglect. You will act as a first point of contact, sign posting callers to services and support within and outside of the charity and providing emotional support. Additionally, volunteers will manage a caseload of callers that are scheduled for weekly call sessions for those who need additional support with all aspects of their hoarding. You will be working with trained colleagues to alleviate housing, benefits, mental health and other problems experienced by HUK’s participants. This opportunity is well suited for psychology students and graduates with the aim of gaining relevant work experience in mental health for Clinical and Counselling Psychology Doctorates.

The role consists of:

· Volunteering at HUK a minimum of a half-day (4 hours) each week for minimum 6 months.

· Providing accurate and timely support to those using the service.

· Maintain a caseload of up to six clients at each session

· Taking responsibility for ongoing casework as required.

· Complying with HUK’s case-management procedures, training programme and other relevant policies and procedures.

Training on hoarding, advocacy and other relevant areas of advice will be provided.

 We are looking for:

· Experience working with vulnerable adults

· Experience of providing support in one or more of following areas: mental health; housing; social care; legal.

· The ability to work sensitively and professionally with people facing difficult circumstances

· A commitment to volunteering with us for one year.

· A commitment to values and ethos of HUK.
