This is an opportunity to become Chair of a Charity which has recently celebrated its 10th anniversary. If you are someone who is looking to make a “real difference” for mothers/birthing people and their families facing one of the most challenging and unexpected periods of their lives, then we would like to hear from you.  We are also looking for a Chair who can lead and “harness” the range of skills present within our existing Board members, who come with a range of experience.

Now into our second decade as a charity, it is exciting time to join Mummy’s Star as the Chairperson. We have broadened the conversation about cancer and pregnancy nationwide, and internationally too despite our small stature. We now must sustain what we have built and help take the charity to that next level where we can elevate the voices of those we support, so that their needs are not only understood, but are also prioritised and used to inform policy and planning.

At St John Ambulance, we are looking to develop our volunteering offer and become an even more integral part of our communities through delivering community first aid and education. 

We need people who have a passion for helping others, care about their communities and want to make a difference, supporting them to become safe and more resilient by sharing your first aid skills and knowledge. As a Community First Aider, you’ll deliver first aid to those in need through local events, as well as provide education to the public so that the ripple effect of First Aid grows.

Through supporting the growth of community partnerships, you will bring people along to our cause, growing our membership and fundraising base and spreading the message that First Aid Saves Lives. 

Through volunteering as a Community First Aider, you’ll get a huge sense of satisfaction and pride delivering an essential service. It’s great for you, great for your community and great for our nation, and it requires only a small commitment of your time. 

We will make sure you will have access to a proper induction to volunteering with SJA and the training you need for the role you take on. We will also provide you with a supportive environment while you are volunteering with us. Information about our volunteer roles are included in the role descriptions. What you can expect from SJA, and what we expect from those who volunteer with us, is included in the volunteer charter.

Are you someone who cares deeply about your community? Do you agree that by sharing first aid skills and advice we can create a safer and more resilient community? If so, then becoming a Community First Aider might be the role for you! While observing activity at an event through regular patrols, you could be involved in anything from providing first aid advice to providing lifesaving skills for a patient until the emergency services arrive. Your actions can save lives. Whether it's a minor injury or a serious emergency, your skills will be the difference between panic and relief.

If you become a Community First Aider with Cheshire East, we would love to see you at our monthly meetings in Holmes Chapel. There are also additional training sessions and meetings which will be organised and communicated on an ad-hoc basis. Once your selection and screening has been completed, you will be invited to attend 2 days of in-person training (as well as 10 hours of pre-course e-learning).

We will host a selection and interview evening at our St John Ambulance Crewe building in the week commencing 28th July (specific date and time tbc). At this event, we will run short informal interviews, conduct a Right to Volunteer ID check and demonstrate life-saving skills.

Once screening has been completed to become a Community First Aider with St John Ambulance, we will book you onto a 2-day locally led training course in Cheshire East. Upon completion of this training, we will welcome you to the organisation with an induction session where you will learn all about St John Ambulance and everything you need to know to volunteer with us!

Would you like to support people who have served in the Armed Forces? You don’t need a military background, just patience, and an ability to get on with people from different backgrounds and age groups. If so, this could be the role for you.

What is a Visitor?

SSAFA Visitors provide support to isolated people living at home or in residential care. Whilst a friendly chat about the old days over a cup of tea is an important aspect of the role you will also be able to recognise any other support needs and explore how to link your client into their local community.

Why do we need you?

We’ve been supporting the Armed Forces community since 1885. Our clients come from all backgrounds and age groups and may have served in WW2 or in a more recent conflict like the Falklands or Afghanistan.

There are SSAFA branches throughout the UK and overseas who support local volunteers to deliver services to veterans, serving personnel and their families. Some branches are divided into smaller divisions to ensure the best local service delivery. Each branch has a team of volunteer caseworkers, support volunteers, executive roles, and fundraisers.

With the gift of time and a listening ear you can improve someone’s quality of life for far longer than the hour or so you might spend with them. We need you to join your local SSAFA team to help us to help more people!

When would you be needed and where would you be based?

The essential part of the role is visiting clients, so you will need a driving licence and access to a vehicle or another way to travel to meet clients at home or elsewhere.

Some volunteers will visit more people than others. Whilst you will visit a client on a regular basis for a period, you will not be developing the kind of relationship where you would provide personal care, handle money or support someone in an emergency. SSAFA can help clients to arrange other types of support if needed.

What would you be doing?

• Contacting clients and arranging to meet them regularly at their home or care home for uninterrupted conversation.
• Letting the divisional secretary know of any concerns for your or the client’s safety.
• Arranging for a SSAFA caseworker to assess the client for other support as required.
• Chatting, making a cup of tea, playing cards, looking at photo albums, military mementos etc
• Helping your client to think about ways to reduce their isolation and support them to put these into practice.
• Keeping in touch with your branch so they know your availability.
• Keeping up to date with training and SSAFA news so that you are best able to support clients.
• Volunteering within the standards and values of SSAFA including observing our policies such as the Volunteering policy and Data Protection policy (these will be covered in your training and local induction.)

The remit of this role may change over the next 12-18 months depending on the outcome of a trial currently being undertaken.

• Access to the Volunteer Support Team based at our central office.

• Volunteers will be covered by SSAFAs Public Liability Insurance whilst carrying out the role.

What are we looking for?

• Friendly and approachable people with good listening skills, patience, and a cheerful attitude
• Good spoken English
• Ability to be respectful and non-judgemental with clients, their family, other agencies and SSAFA colleagues.
• Ability to keep within the boundaries of the role with regards to friendship, finances etc.
• Reliable attitude, contact clients promptly, keep regular appointments, update the branch regarding your availability.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and keep information safely (within SSAFA policies)
• Willingness to travel by public transport or car to appointments with clients.

Hive is a community arts charity in Shipley, Bradford. We deliver arts and crafts courses, workshops and projects from our centre in Shipley and across Bradford District. We believe that creativity contributes to good health and wellbeing and helps to bring communities together.

Options for Life is a dynamic not-for-profit charity based in Sandwell.  We are dedicated to empowering adults with learning disabilities and/or autism to boost their confidence, develop valuable skills, and live independently, enjoying the same rights and opportunities as everyone else.

As a Trustee, you will play a vital role in the strategic leadership and governance of the charity. Time Commitment:

The successful candidate will be required to attend three two-hour teleconference Board meetings per year and one face to face meeting (historically held in London).  Also the Annual Conference which you will be required to attend in person during November. 

This is an unpaid voluntary position; however, reasonable travel expenses will be covered.

What are we looking for?

•  Some experiences of the charity / helpline sector are desirable but not essential.
• As an organisation, we work remotely, using IT solutions such as Teams, Zoom and SharePoint so location is not so relevant. Being comfortable with the use of these technologies would be helpful.

 As a small charity, your contribution will be significant and effective. As part of HLP’s Board, you will be helping directly to ensure the effectiveness of the organisation.

Do You Enjoy Driving?

Would you like to help save time for our animal welfare team by transporting animals, stock, and essential supplies?

At RSPCA Buckinghamshire South Branch, our volunteer drivers play a crucial role by:

• Transporting animals to and from vets, foster homes, and boarding establishments.
• Moving stock and donations between our two shops (Chesham and Burnham) and storage facilities.
• Delivering pet food, litter, and bedding to cat fosterers and small animal carers.

If you have a valid driving licence, some spare time during weekdays, evenings, or weekends, and live in or around South Bucks, you could support our vital work.

Would you like to work with others to help develop and nurture our peaceful, restorative gardens? As a Volunteer Gardener at Skanda Vale Hospice, you’ll be helping create and maintain a set of magical spaces designed to uplift everyone who spends time in them. Your attention will be focused on tending the gardens, grounds and garden structures. We encourage everyone to share their ideas and creativity to shape areas for well-being that benefit patients, team and visitors to the hospice.

About Skanda Vale Hospice

Skanda Vale Hospice offers unhurried, highly individualised care and respite to families affected by life-limiting illnesses, completely free of charge. A beautiful and happy place, filled with laughter and vibrant colour, our hospice is nurse led and primarily run by volunteers. Volunteering with us means being a valued part of a dedicated team who give of themselves wholeheartedly. Compassion is at the heart of what we do, expressed by human kindness, generosity and a deep commitment to the well-being of everyone we care for and work alongside.

What will I be doing?

• Mowing, weeding, pruning, sweeping, digging, potting and deadheading.

• Sweeping, weeding and pressure washing ramps, patios and parking areas.

• Depending on your fitness and ability, you might help with building or renewing garden structures.

• On occasion, help the gardening team at Skanda Hafan, Dolgran (a fundraising venue for the hospice).

How much time should I give?

A seasonal time commitment of one day (5-6 hours) per week is requested for this green-fingered role but life doesn't always fit with our schedules so there is some flexibility! Some volunteers also support our occasional open garden events.

What do I need to have?

• Some gardening knowledge and experience is helpful but not essential.
• A love of nature and creativity.
• A sense of camaraderie, team spirit and enjoyment of working alongside colleagues is vital.
• An element of physical stamina is useful as you may be on your feet for some time.
• Appropriate clothing including closed-top shoes and gloves.
• A permanent UK address or a visa that allows you to stay and volunteer in the UK (unfortunately we cannot sponsor visa applications).

What training and support will I be given?

Our Gardeners receive induction and training and are invited to team development opportunities. They are supported by the Gardening Lead to feel confident in their role.

We’re working towards a sustainable and regenerative future growing the movement of young people doing a one-year volunteering experience serving the earth and caring for those in need. By being the support system for all those who join this movement, enriching and accompanying their experiences through holding regular check-in groups, offering workshops and talks throughout the year and giving a certification of completion recognising their experience.

Our vision is that every youngster from 18 years old upwards, from all around the world, spends a whole year in service to the earth and its fellow human beings. The Kindness Charity Shop is part of Calder Community Cares (Registered Charity No. 1210837), a local charity based in Hebden Bridge, Calderdale. We work to support people in need across the Upper Calder Valley by providing food vouchers, essential items, and practical help.

Our mission is simple: Kindness in Action.

Everything we do is powered by the kindness of our volunteers and supporters. As a volunteer, you’ll be part of a warm, welcoming team and play a vital role in helping your community.
