Independent Visitor Volunteer 

Our Independent Visitor Volunteers provide consistent and supportive relationships to children ad young people in care, offering emotional support, companionship, and guidance through shared activities and time together.The Independent Visitor plays a vital role in helping the young people build confidence and feel secure while enhancing their personal, social, and cultural development. 

As an Independent Visitor Volunteer in England, you might: 

• support the child/young person to experience enriching activities that contribute to their personal and cultural development

• engage in activities such as pursuing hobbies, meeting for meals, or socialising in a community setting

• listen to and support the young person, fostering a sense of safety and trust

• help the young person develop social skills and increase their involvement in their community

• develop a positive and lasting relationship, ensuring the young person feels valued and supported 

You will need to be over 18 years old and be living in the UK. Please note that the Independent Visitor Volunteers generally volunteer at evening and weekends due to the children’s and young person’s availability.

Providing a confidential non-judgemental listening ear to Residents and Staff. Supporting those wishing to develop their spiritual journey from a Christian perspective. The role will be based across one of our hostels in Watford, Borehamwood, Bishop's Stortford, Welwyn Garden City, Hatfield or High Wycombe, 

Activities include:

• Proactively engaging with Residents and staff to build safe relationships and trust
• Offering a ‘listening ear’ to all and giving emotional support
• Sensitively discerning when to offer prayer and support from a Christian perspective, and when to use faith based language
• Be inclusive and welcoming to people of all religious faiths and none, referring people to other faith communities as appropriate
• Working alongside support staff, volunteers & local agencies
• Maintaining records of support and feeding back concerns about Resident welfare to Staff/Line Manager.
• Attend regular volunteer team meetings
• Being proactive in seeking spiritual and emotional support for your own benefit as this is a challenging role.

Additional activities could include:

• Facilitating group work for example: Retreat Programme, Bible Study, prayer or Mental Health Support.
• Welcoming new Residents by phone or in person
• Leading or helping with Chaplaincy lead events: Easter/Christmas activities, Remembrance Services
• Being an ambassador for YMCA’s mission in local Churches

Skills/Qualities/Experience:

• Be a good and active listener who can support others
• Be of a friendly, welcoming and cheerful disposition

• Sensitivity and courage to care for people experiencing a range of distressing situations including: grief, trauma, poor mental health, substance misuse, suicidal thoughts.

• Good communication skills in English; in person & over the phone

Training Support:

• A full induction to the service and specific site will be provided
• A one day ‘Chaplaincy Essentials’ training, plus a menu of additional training will be made available
• Online training: Safeguarding (Adults & Young People), Fire Awareness, Manual Handling
• Ongoing support and regular 1:1 meetings with your line-manager
• Team meetings and social events
• Mileage and expenses may be payable

You will need 2 x references and a DBS (we will apply for and fund this). 

The Branch Secretary role is important to the running of the branch as they act as a coordinator and communicator for the branch. Without these roles, we would not have as many branches as we do.

What you will be doing

• Liaising with the Branch Chair to monitor the branch email.
• Checking through e-bulletins and newsletters received.
• Circulating information of interest to the mailing list and working with the Chair to ensure this information is put on the website and/or newsletter
• Taking and writing committee meeting minutes.

As volunteer guide at Moorfields you will be on hand to help support our patients arriving for treatment. This can include providing verbal instructions for them to find their clinics, physically guiding them to their required service and supporting the patients with information about the move to our new eye centre in summer 2027. 

This role is currently taking place at out Moorfields site at City Road. As a charity we will be relocating to our new centre in summer 2027 based on St. Pancras Way NW1 0PE.

Friends of Moorfields volunteers perform an extremely important job ensuring that all patients who come to Moorfields feel comfortable, reassured and receive the best possible treatment regardless of the outcome of their appointment.

We require all volunteers to undergo the recruitment process which includes some online training and a DBS check. All volunteers must be willing to commit to a minimum of 3 hours per week for 6 months. 

We will happily provide references/UCAS statements for all volunteers and can provide support in finding work opportunities.

Home-Start WKCHF is looking for volunteers to support parents and children who are facing challenges such as isolation, mental health struggles, or financial difficulties.

About the Role

As a Home-Start volunteer, you will provide emotional and practical support to families with young children in their own homes. • Helping parents build confidence in their parenting skills

To assist with the picking, packing and despatching of New Goods orders to all St Helena shops, via the Donation Centre delivery operation. 

 Main duties of the role 

  • Assist with the picking and packing of New Goods stock, preparing it for pick-up via the Donation Centre delivery drivers

• Assist with the unpacking of goods from outside suppliers

• Assist with stock takes and spot checks

• Use a computerised stock management system to maintain accurate weekly and monthly stock reports

• Assist with keeping the stock room tidy and clean

• Managing and reporting damaged stock according to company procedures

• Ad hoc printing, laminating etc when required

• Work as part of a small but busy team.

• Facilitate a weekly singing and music group with use of instruments

Youth Sustainability Forum

We empower Zambian youth with education, mentorship, and funding to drive SDG-focused solutions.

We are looking for a creative and committed Graphic Designer to help us coordinate our upcoming Youth SDG Summit in Zambia that will impact 1,000 youths.

Your designs will shape how our work is seen and understood, from social media content and reports to campaign visuals and volunteer materials. Through your creativity, you will help amplify issues such as mental health, climate action, and civic participation in ways that move people to care and act.

This role is ideal for someone who understands that design is not just about aesthetics, but about communication and impact. You will work closely with our team to translate complex realities into visuals that are simple, powerful, and human.

When you volunteer as a Graphic Designer with YSF, your work will help attract support, strengthen visibility, and ultimately ensure more youths are seen, heard, and supported.

About South Tyneside Adult Recovery Services (STARS)

South Tyneside Adult Recovery Service is the alcohol and drug service in South Tyneside for adults.

South Tyneside Adult Recovery Service is open Monday to Friday 9.00 am - 4.45 pm.

About the role:

• Provide a welcoming meet and greet service to people attending STARS 

• Answer internal phone calls

• Replenish leaflets / resources 

• Create and maintain displays in the waiting area / rooms 

• Copying / printing resources for colleagues

About you:

Due to the location of the printer, applicants will need to be able to walk up and down a flight of stairs to access the printer/copier.

The service is open 9am – 5pm so the role would take place during these hours. 

Confident IT skills as there are mandatory training modules to complete online. 

Applicants must have excellent verbal communication skills, be professional, able to maintain professional boundaries and adhere to Waythrough policies.

Experience of volunteering / working in an admin / reception / customer service role would be desirable.

To have a caring, patient and empathetic nature.

Ability to remain calm and focused in a busy environment.

• complete an introduction to Citizens Advice and training for your role
• welcome clients and other visitors to the local Citizens Advice
• explain to the client how long they might be waiting and what will happen and give out a form for clients to fill in
• type up information from the client form onto a spreadsheet or database
• answer the telephone, reply to emails and post
• help with the day to day running of the Citizens Advice service

SolidariTee is an international charity run and led entirely by volunteers who are students and young people. We're working to make lasting change in the way refugees and other people forced to flee persecution and violence are treated, through a combination of awareness-raising, advocacy, and fundraising to support grassroots NGOs providing vital refugee legal aid and mental health support.
