Stepping Stones (Luton) is a charity based in Luton which meet the needs of vulnerable women and their children. Our practitioners  deliver community-based, frontline support to women suffering from drug addiction and substance abuse,  who may have offended or re-offended or be victims of domestic abuse including those in contact with the criminal justice system. Services include women’s group programmes, 1:1 support and counselling and the provision of an Ofsted approved childcare facility.

Our current trustees bring a range of skills and experience to the Board and share their expertise to oversee the development and implementation of our strategic and business plans and the charity’s finances.  We are looking for trustees for the board of Stepping Stones (Luton) board and would welcome either someone who has experience of being a trustee or someone who wants to take their first Trustee role.   We are particularly interested in people with a background in finance, fundraising or social media.  We are keen to improve the balance of diversity and perspective on our board which would reflect both our diverse work force and service users.   Stepping Stones values diversity and inclusion and welcomes applications from candidates with diverse backgrounds in the skill areas/knowledge highlighted

Home-Start Portsmouth is looking for a new Chairperson to lead our Board of Trustees and contribute to the development and success of the charity.

Home-Start Portsmouth supports families with young children through their most challenging times. Our vision is a world where no parent feels alone in the critical task of raising children.

The charity is part of the Home-Start UK federation of more than 80 Home-Starts.

Through our expert staff team and local community of more than 100 trained volunteers, we offer practical and emotional support to parents and families by spending time in their homes, running parenting programmes and offering stay and play groups, and school-readiness programmes in the community.

In 2022-23, we supported 1,394 families through projects and community groups, and 788 children. Our volunteers delivered almost 17,000 hours of support to families.

It's an exciting time to join the charity as, this year, we are on target to triple income, have doubled the staff team and are offering services to many more families in the city.

The role

We are looking for a strong and passionate Chair to lead and enable the Board of Trustees at Home-Start Portsmouth (made up of eight Trustees and CEO).

You will support us in developing and delivering a focused and robust rolling three-year business plan, to deliver on all governance requirements, and to be a highly visible member of the community.

Feeling Strong is an exciting Dundee-based charity with the ambition to improve the lives of young people living with mental health and wellbeing challenges by fostering the skills, confidence and aspirations they need to flourish. Our services are designed by young people, delivered by young people for the benefit of young people, and we believe that this youth-led/peer-led approach is our biggest asset in tackling issues around mental health and wellbeing. We support stable recovery journeys for young people, lead campaigns to tackle societal issues, develop quality resources based on our own research, and tackle the disparity they face in unemployment, underemployment and accessing opportunities like further and higher education.

YOUR COMMITMENT

Whilst the Trustee Board meets for formal meetings 6 times a year, successful candidates will be expected to contribute to the organisation more widely, taking part in fundraisers, external events, strategic planning and advising the staff team when needed. The average contribution expected of Trustees is around one hour a week.

Work-related travel costs will be reimbursed.

Chairperson Role, Responsibilities and Attributes

The Chairperson leads the Board of Trustees and sets its agenda in consultation with the CEO. Their role is to enable Trustees to fulfil their responsibilities for overall governance, risk management and strategic direction. The Trustee Board is responsible for proactively engaging with and understanding Belong, its service users and the wider criminal justice landscape. Trustees must always uphold the best interests of Belong’s service users, ensuring that the charity achieves its charitable aims whilst abiding by charity law and other relevant regulations. The Chairperson supports and empowers the CEO to lead the organisation so that it achieves its vision, mission and aims, whilst remaining sustainable and ethical.

In supporting the trustee board and CEO, the Chairperson is responsible for:

• Acting as an ambassador and spokesperson for Belong when appropriate.
• Creating meaningful and productive working relationships with the CEO, senior leadership team and trustees.
• Providing empowering, supportive line management to the CEO.
• Chair and facilitate trustee board meetings effectively, ensuring that decisions are made fairly and in the best interests of Belong’s service users.

ECL exists to enhance the lives of people with learning disabilities or autism. Through our
activities at local community centres, we help our members have fun, make friends, learn
new skills and be themselves. We are currently looking for Trustees to sit on the Charity’s

Trustees meet quarterly to discuss how the Charity is doing, upcoming opportunities and
plans, etc. We are a small, friendly group who all have an interest in helping people.

Man&Boy - Trustees and Treasurer

Man & Boy are seeking at least 3 new Trustees, including a Treasurer, who are passionate about family values and committed to its mission. 

Man & Boy work to enhance family relationships, between boys who may be struggling with life and a significant male in their lives. We are looking for a Chair to lead our Board, which is currently made up of eight Trustees and CEO. The priorities of
the Chair include:
Strategic, Financial and Operational Priorities
Lead and enable the Board of Trustees (made up of eight trustees and CEO) in the delivery of a rolling three-year
business plan so that Home-Start Portsmouth:

• Has a well-developed, focused, and robust strategy for growth and sustainability
• Can manage its financial risks by evenly spreading contract income through widely diversified income channels and projects within the scope of the business plan. Ideally, so that no individual contract will exceed 45% of our income.
• Has a senior management team, led by the CEO, performs consistently in achieving all internal and external metrics (Chair is responsible for line management of CEO)
• Creates and maintains a committee structure to deliver on all Charity Commission and Companies House governance requirements
• Maintains policy and risk controls within required periodic frameworks

The Chair is a highly visible charity and community member who is comfortable and confident with networking, public speaking, presentations and hosting events.

Thomley’s Vision is to enhance the lives and experiences of disabled people, their families and the wider community.

Thomley has been a successful charity for 25 years. We annually enhance the lives of more than 37,435 visitors each year (14,974 people with disabilities and 22,461 non-disabled people at our beautiful centre in rural Oxfordshire/ Buckinghamshire and have exciting plans for our future development.

Main Responsibilities and Duties

• Ensure that SEED and its representatives function within all legal and regulatory frameworks continually striving for best practice in governance.

· Comply with SEED’s Code of Conduct and policies, providing leadership on its value base and organisational behaviour, including safeguarding, human resources and financial management.

· Work alongside fellow Trustees and the Senior Management Team in developing SEED’s strategic direction, promoting and developing this through good governance and clear strategic planning. To evaluate progress made towards achieving the strategic objectives.

• Ensure that SEED operates within its Charitable Objectives and organisational strategy in order that its work remains focussed and makes the greatest impact to those it serves.

• Actively contribute to the development of SEED’s business plan, monitoring and evaluating performance against agreed objectives.

• Prepare for and participate fully in board meetings reviewing all reports coming to these meetings.

• To undertake training when required.

• Use any specific skills, knowledge or experience to help the Board of Trustees reach quick and sound decisions and participate in sub-committees.

· Support the recruitment of senior staff and offer on-going support and monitoring of their work.

· Ensure the effective and efficient administration of SEED including having appropriate policies and procedures in place. These policies and procedures are reviewed and signed off by the Trustee Board.

· Ensure that SEED has robust safeguarding policy and procedures in place and that safeguarding is embedded across the organisation

· Safeguard the good name and reputation of SEED, acting in the best interest of the charity, staff and beneficiaries at all times.

· Promote the work of SEED externally seeking opportunities that might further the work and visibility of the Charity.

·  Support the Managing Director in leading the Charity, providing advice and practical help and participating in their annual evaluation.

· Maintain absolute confidentiality about all sensitive or confidential information received through carrying out the duties of a Trustee.

· Remain open and accessible to SEED’s staff through occasional communication and site visits.

Accountability:

As a Trustee you are responsible and liable for the governance and functioning of the charity and are accountable in varying degrees to a variety of stakeholders including: service users, members, funders, the Charity Commission, and Companies House.

SEED Trustees should uphold the fiduciary duty required of all charity trustees to act in the best interests of both current and future beneficiaries of the charity, being held personally liable for any breach of that duty.

Support regarding this is given by fellow Trustees, the Managing Director and the Senior Management team.

Required skills & experience:

The successful applicant will:

• Demonstrate a passion for and sound knowledge of development and/or conservation issues facing least developed countries such as Madagascar.

• Demonstrate sound knowledge and keen interest in at least one of SEED’s core areas (community health; sustainable livelihoods; environmental conservation) or in a key functional area (management, finance, marketing).

• Have a reasonable level of understanding of legal, financial, audit and other regulatory requirements of a charity, ideally through experience as a trustee.

• Show commitment to SEED and have sufficient time and willingness to contribute effectively to board proceedings and sub committee work.

• Be able to make quick and sound decisions based on an analysis of information presented to them.

• Have the confidence to both advocate for or challenge ideas and can remain independent of any influence from other organisations or individuals.

• Be able to work effectively as a member of a team and independently.

• Demonstrate an understanding of and commitment to SEED’s Code of Conduct and values and be a good ambassador for the organisation at all times.

• Demonstrate the ability, social skills and confidence to give clear guidance and support to other Trustees or members of staff in respect of the philosophy and procedures of SEED in order to protect the reputation of the NGO.

Trustees wanted for Nantgarw China Works Museum

Nantgarw China Works is home to the finest porcelain ever produced. It was established in 1813 and produced porcelain that has achieved international fame before producing earthenware for daily use until 1920. The site was rescued from total decay in 1990 but many of the Scheduled historic structures remain in urgent need of care. Today the China Works is a museum displaying the history of the porcelain and pottery produced at the site, a working pottery where three ceramicists are based (one of whom produces porcelain items from the rediscovered recipe of 1813), and a major teaching institution running some 500 workshop sessions in heritage crafts. The site is a popular venue for local groups and societies as well as an increasing number of coach tours.

Since 2007 the Museum has been operated by a charitable trust which determines the strategic directions for its development. It is staffed by volunteers who carry out a wide range of duties under the oversight of our Strategic Development Manager. After considerable growth over the past decade, we are now focussed on the steps necessary for expansion and sustainability. We are currently seeking to achieve Accredited Museum status and in line with our vision and the conclusions of a recent Options Appraisal exercise are working on developing a multi-million-pound application to ‘transform where the world’s finest porcelain was made into a vibrant centre for ceramic history and contemporary innovation.’

At this exciting time in our history, we would welcome applications to join the existing seven members of the Trustee board. Trustees are unpaid and meet formally six times a year but are expected to develop a close relationship with the site and help in any way they can. Working together, Trustees are expected to:

• Set the strategic framework and direction to enable the Museum to deliver benefits to the public, to achieve its goals and to flourish

Successful applicants will be joining the board of one of the UK’s leading specialist service providers, a charitable organisation which directly supports over 450 autistic individuals, and a staff group of over 800 main staff and 100 relief workers.

Founded in Wirral in 1968, Autism Together is a complex, stimulating, award-winning organisation with an annual turnover of £26m and a substantial property portfolio. The charity provides Residential care, Supported Living, Day Services, and Respite for autistic adults, alongside a range of support for young people and their families.

Our Trustees contribute significantly to the strategic planning and direction of Autism Together and successful candidates will need to demonstrate experience in governance, good communication and an ability to conform to our Trustee Code.

The Board recognises that diversity of Trustees is vital if we are to operate with excellence, and we warmly welcome applications from individuals of diverse backgrounds.

Trustees are expected to attend 8 board meetings per year, become actively involved in at least one quarterly sub-committee, and to familiarise themselves with all aspects of the charity’s work.

We are seeking Trustees who will bring relevant skills and experience in one of the following areas:

⦿ Community-led development and action.

⦿ Financial management.

⦿ Legal and HR experience in the field of commercial and charity law.

⦿ Communication experience particularly in the area of social media.

⦿ IT and governance structures.

⦿ Property and Estates.

⦿ Governance and/or knowledge of quality assurance.

MOLA (Museum of London Archaeology) has been providing independent professional heritage advice and services for over 50 years across the UK and internationally. In this time, we have delivered some of the largest archaeological projects ever undertaken. This includes excavations ahead of new developments such as Crossrail, HS2 and the A14 Huntingdon to Cambridge scheme.

But that’s not all. As the only British archaeological practice to be awarded Independent Research Organisation (IRO) status, our research and its impacts are recognised worldwide. Our fieldwork and research feeds into driving our award-winning public impact programmes – inspiring current and future generations about the past and the places they live. We genuinely believe archaeology has the power to change people’s lives for the better and as such seek to embed partnership and participation throughout our work.

With a new Chair of Trustees and Chief Executive in post, we are about to embark on a significant programme of transformation and change - and have big ambitions.

About the opportunity

We are seeking up to four new trustees to join our board. After a period of significant change in 2023, we are seeking innovative and experienced individuals as we enter a new and exciting period for our world-leading charity. We are particularly looking for individuals with the following experiences and skills:

·Digital and Technological Innovation – we are seeking support from an individual with a strong background in tech/digital, with the skills, knowledge, and expertise to advise and guide us on our programme of digital transformation.

 · Finance and Commercial – Although we’re a charity, 90% of our funding is generated through commercial activities. We’re looking for a trustee with a sharp eye for the numbers who can help us push the margins on our commercial activities.

We also welcome trustees from a variety of backgrounds, and we are keen to boost the following skills on our board:

· Legal and HR

· Research and grants

· H&S and environment

·Media and communication

An understanding of or a background in the archaeology sector is not necessarily required – however, a passion for the past is a must!

Commitment

We anticipate that Trustees will need to participate in a minimum of 4 meetings per year, but there will be the opportunity to play a broader role, including attending board sub-committees, staff committees and working groups.
