Age UK RBH is seeking an outstanding leader to serve as Chair of the Board of Trustees, guiding our charity through its next phase of growth, resilience, and impact for older people across our three boroughs.

Age UK RBH is a trusted local charity supporting older people across Redbridge, Barking & Dagenham, and Havering. We deliver vital services that promote independence, wellbeing, and dignity—from advice and information to social activities, home support, and specialist care. With a strong reputation for quality and compassion, we are proud to be a lifeline for older residents and their families.
The Role
As Chair, you will:
· Provide strategic leadership to the Board of Trustees, ensuring effective governance and accountability.
· Champion our mission and values, safeguarding the charity’s commitment to inclusion, equity, and measurable impact.
· Support and challenge the Chief Executive and senior team, acting as a critical friend and strategic partner.
· Represent Age UK RBH externally, building partnerships with funders, local authorities, and community organisations.
· Ensure the charity remains financially sustainable and operationally strong, delivering excellence for older people.
Who We’re Looking For
We are seeking a visionary leader with:
· Experience of chairing boards or holding senior governance roles.
· Strong understanding of charity governance, financial stewardship, and risk management.
· Excellent communication and influencing skills, with the ability to inspire confidence across diverse stakeholders.
· Commitment to equity, inclusion and diversity.
· Passion for improving the lives of older people and strengthening communities.

Time Commitment
This is a voluntary role, with reasonable expenses reimbursed. The Chair is expected to commit around 2–3 days per month, including Board meetings, sub-committees, and external representation. There are six Board of Trustees Meetings usually on a Friday afternoon and additional training days as required.

Volunteering in the shop
Monday Opportunity! 9.30am-1pm
We are currently looking to build a Monday morning team 9.30m-1pm. Initial training will be provided in store by the brilliant volunteer team during existing trading hours, Tuesday - Saturday and once we have a Monday Team in place we’ll start welcoming in customers!
Sunday Opportunity! 10am-2pm
Do you have some free time on a Sunday? We are looking to build a Sunday team to help open and run the Sunday shift. Initial training will be provided in store by the brilliant volunteer team during existing trading hours, Tuesday - Saturday, and once we have a Sunday Team in place we’ll start welcoming in customers!
Our Shrewsbury Shop Volunteers are in the middle of it all, and there’s plenty to get involved with. You might be sorting and pricing stock, engaging with customers, ringing items through the till, creating fantastic window displays or keeping our shop floor looking organised.
It’s up to you how much you commit. We have volunteers who support for a couple of hours a week and some do more. Many people volunteer either a morning or an afternoon each week - this is something that will be discussed at the selection stage, after you’ve applied.

This role will be supporting two lovely gentlemen living in Twickenham who would love a visitor to spend some time with them. They both enjoy exploring their local high street charity shops and going for a drink and a sausage roll in Greggs. When at home, one man enjoys relaxing in front of the telly and the other enjoys listening to his record and cassette collection.
Living in the same home, we’d ideally like one volunteer to visit both gentlemen. For one of the men, their speech might take some patience to understand, and the other prefers to communicate with gestures and pictures, so a friendly and understanding approach is key. It would be up to you whether you do both visits on the same day or on alternate months.
Access to a car would be a great addition but is not essential for this role as the house is very near to both bus and train routes.
We offer a lifelong befriending service for adults with learning disabilities. Matching the skills and interests of passionate visitors with the specific hobbies and interests of the people we visit. Visitors visit six times a year to create a 1-2-1 connection, offer companionship, encourage people to do the things they enjoy and check-in on their wellbeing. In many cases, the visitor is the only person in someone’s life who isn’t paid to be there for them.

This is an Out and about visit role which means your visits are likely to be longer, very active and the person you visit will often take an active part in planning your outings and activities in the community. Your volunteer manager will be happy to help you with ideas and suggestions for things you can do. Visits will vary in length but tends to be around a couple of hours, sometimes shorter or longer, depending on what you plan to do.
In this role you will spend quality time with the person you visit and could do a range of different activities like:
- Sitting and having a chat
- Checking in on their well- being
- Going out to a local café/pub for a meal/drink
- Take part on community activities like visiting a place of interest, go shopping etc.
- Enjoying a walk
- A craft activity at home
As a Mencap volunteer visitor you will be:

- Passionate about supporting people with a with a learning disability.

Age UK Notts are seeking individuals who would like to be considered as a volunteer for our Companion Service.
Volunteers will be supporting people in their own homes and in the community within Nottingham and Nottinghamshire and ideally, we ask all applicants to provide a minimum of 1 hour volunteering a week.
The companion service volunteer can choose to be:
• A companion within the person’s home
• A companion outside the person’s home
Examples of the type of support the service offers include:
• Supporting an older person/s hobbies and interests or simply chatting with them in their own home on a regular basis.
• Supporting with digital access & building confidence skills & motivation to access the opportunities of the internet.
• Supporting the person outside of their home e.g., by accompanying them on a walk, to the shops, to a café, garden centre, theatre or cinema or other social activities / community groups.
• Where appropriate, supporting the older person to access other services through information and signposting or referring to the Companion Service Coordinator for support.
We are looking for the following skills/interests:
• Individuals with a genuine interest in the wellbeing of older people who are committed to volunteering on a regular basis.
• Commitment to complete our Volunteer Report Form accurately and regularly.
• Ability to travel for visits in the local community either by car or public transport for those volunteers who choose to participate in this type of activity.
• Digital literacy for those volunteers who choose to participate in this type of activity.
We are looking for volunteers with good daytime availability in specific areas of Nottingham and Nottinghamshire.

We have a variety of exciting retail opportunities available at the Acorns Children’s Shop in Moseley.
At Acorns, we provide vital care and support for children with life-limiting or life-threatening conditions, and for their families. As a charity, most of our services are funded through fundraising and the incredible work of our shops.
To help us continue delivering this essential care, we’re looking for enthusiastic and friendly volunteers to join our team in the Moseley shop. Our shops are vibrant and dynamic places to be — no two days are ever the same! From greeting customers and receiving donations to creating displays and helping with sales, there’s always something rewarding to do.
We’d love your help! Volunteers are needed Monday to Friday, and we’re also looking for key volunteers to help us run the shop on Sundays.
As a Shop Volunteer with us, you will be:
- Engaging with customers
- Accepting and sorting donated stock
- Pricing donations for sale
- Working on the till

To help us to continue to provide the care that we do, we are looking for fun and enthusiastic volunteers to join us in our Cotteridge shop. Our shops are exciting and dynamic, with no two days being the same. From our walk-in customers, to receiving donations, and everything in between
As a Lead Shop Volunteer with us, you will be:
- Supporting the daily operation of the shop and stepping up to run it when needed.
- Delivering outstanding customer service and creating a warm, welcoming experience for every visitor.
- Guiding and supporting our amazing volunteers, offering direction and encouragement.
- Handling cash and completing banking tasks — full training provided, of course.
- Getting creative with merchandising, ensuring our displays always look their best.
- Maintaining high standards of housekeeping and helping with the smooth, day-to-day running of the store
