Volunteer Role: Head of People, Culture & Talent

Unlock YOUR Potential is a passionate, volunteer‑run social mobility charity supporting adults from working‑class, low‑income, and underserved communities. We break down barriers, open doors, and equip people with the skills, tools, networks, and confidence to thrive.

We are now seeking a visionary Head of People, Culture & Talent to build and lead the People function that will shape our culture, empower our volunteers, and ensure our charity grows with dignity, excellence, and purpose.

About the Role

As our Head of People, Culture & Talent, you will create, set up, and manage the full suite of People functions for a growing social mobility charity. You will champion our culture, build our volunteer experience, and ensure every person who joins our movement feels valued, supported, and equipped to excel.

You will lead on:

1. People & HR

  • Designing and implementing our HR systems, policies, and processes.

  • Ensuring compliance, safeguarding, and best practice.

  • Supporting wellbeing, inclusion, and psychological safety.

2. Volunteer Management

  • Creating a joyful, empowering volunteer journey.

  • Leading recruitment, onboarding, training, and retention.

  • Building a culture where volunteers feel connected, appreciated, and able to thrive.

3. Learning & Development

  • Designing training pathways for volunteers and programme facilitators.

  • Creating resources, workshops, and development opportunities.

  • Embedding a culture of growth, reflection, and excellence.

4. Culture & Values

  • Bringing our Culture Code to life across the organisation.

  • Championing equity, belonging, and representation.

  • Ensuring our values shape every decision, experience, and interaction.

This role is perfect for someone who is passionate about people, culture, and social mobility — and who wants to build something meaningful, ambitious, and lasting.

What You Bring

We welcome people from all backgrounds, especially those with lived experience of the barriers we aim to break.

You may be a HR professional, a people‑focused leader, or someone with experience in volunteer management, organisational culture, or talent development. What matters most is that you are:

  • Organised, proactive, and able to design systems from scratch.
