Our amazing team of volunteers help us run over 100 shops across England and Wales.  Every donated item that you sort, prepare and sell helps to raise vital funds to support us in our mission to make sure no one, no matter how complex their disabilities, is isolated, left out, or unable to fulfil their potential. Our shops are at the heart of local communities – sharing the work of Sense, and helping to secure support for our life changing work.

What your role will involve

There are a variety of tasks that you can get involved with in the shop, including:

• Welcoming and assisting customers, providing great customer service and a fantastic shopping experience
• Receiving donated goods from members of the public
• Sorting, steaming, tagging and preparing donated goods for sale
• Creating eye catching window and in-shop displays
• Keeping the shop floor well stocked, tidy, clean and organised
• Processing sales and serving on the till
• Promoting Gift Aid and other Sense fundraising initiatives
• Acting as an ambassador for Sense; promoting the shop and Sense in your local community
• Supporting with the recruitment and training of new volunteers
• Following new health and safety measures to ensure the safety of everyone

We are looking to recruit an Activities Volunteer for the Gwynedd/Ynys Mon Group. As our local group Activities Volunteer you’ll help us to set up activities in the area. Whether you’re serving refreshments, talking to people, registering attendees or collecting payments, you’ll be making sure everyone feel welcome.The Gwynedd/Ynys Mon group extends from Holyhead to Dolgellau and covers all areas in-between.

In this role you’ll be able to develop your organisation, communication and team working skills. Most importantly you’ll be supporting your local group to run activities that bring friendship and fun to your local MS Community. 

About you

You’ll have an interest in the MS Society and the work that we do, as well as the enthusiasm to represent both us and our values locally. You will understand the needs of people affected by MS in your area and be sympathetic to the needs and motivations of volunteers. You’ll be able to apply disability, equality and inclusion practices and understand and apply our risk management system. About the Project – “Solta o Jogo”
“Solta o Jogo” is a vibrant cultural competition and festival celebrating Brazilian heritage through Capoeira, music, dance, acrobatics, and a Brazilian arts & crafts fair. Hosted at Kingston University Townhouse, the event invites the community to participate in free performances, workshops, and exhibitions promoting cross-cultural understanding.

As part of this initiative, we are seeking a Personal Assistant to support daily coordination, scheduling, and communication tasks across departments. This remote volunteer opportunity is ideal for someone who is detail-oriented, proactive, and looking to gain experience in nonprofit administration while contributing to a meaningful community-driven programme. 

Position Overview:
The Personal Assistant will be responsible for organising meetings, managing calendars, supporting internal communications, and assisting in day-to-day administrative operations. This role plays a vital part in ensuring smooth coordination between teams, and offers autonomy, flexibility, and mentorship opportunities for someone looking to develop or apply their administrative and organisational skills in the Third Sector.

Key Responsibilities:

Administrative Support & Coordination:

• Manage meeting schedules, appointments, and internal calendars.

• Organise virtual events, staff briefings, and team check-ins.

• Support in planning and executing internal conferences or training sessions.

Data & System Management:

• Maintain and update internal databases and contact lists.

• Implement and uphold procedures and administrative systems.

Staff Liaison & Communication:

• Act as a point of contact between managers and teams.

• Assist in internal communications and task follow-ups.

General Administrative Tasks:

• Contribute to internal meetings with updates and suggestions.

• Provide ad hoc administrative support to leadership and teams as needed.

Required Qualifications:

Education:

• No specific degree required, but relevant administrative or office support experience is preferred.

Experience:

• Prior experience as an administrative or personal assistant is an advantage.

• Familiarity with coordinating meetings, managing data, or supporting organisational logistics.

Skills:

• Strong written and verbal communication.

• Excellent organisational and time-management abilities.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Word and Excel.

• Proactive, professional, and able to work independently or collaboratively.

• Strong team player with attention to detail.

SOCIAL SCIENCE RESEARCHERS (SSR)

As a member of The Working Group research team, our Social Science Researchers (SSR) study the human rights liberties and suppressions of women and girls within each country to identify and address social issues. They implement and manage research projects, collect and analyse data, and report findings of said research. Their work helps shape IWI’s policy decisions, social reforms, and human interactions.

RESPONSIBILITIES

o Understand the needs of the project, i.e. the research questions it needs to answer;

o Design an appropriate methodology to deliver the project;

o Design and write survey questionnaires;

o Apply a range of research techniques to gather relevant information, including document analysis, surveys, case studies and interviews (face-to-face, telephone and online);

o Liaise with and direct social research field interviewers to gather information;

o Gather information by directing or carrying out qualitative fieldwork;

o Conduct reviews of relevant literature and evidence;

o Analyse and evaluate research and interpret data using a range of analysis packages;

o Prepare, present and disseminate results in the form of reports, briefings, research papers and presentations;

o Offer research-based briefings and advice, which may involve writing action plans;

o Advise external bodies on social policy;

o Prepare and present tenders for new research projects or respond to research tenders prepared by others.

SKILLS

o Quantitative and qualitative research skills for undertaking tasks such as interviewing, survey design and controlled trials;

o Strong numerical, analytical and problem-solving skills;

o The ability to think logically and creatively;

o A natural sense of curiosity to understand social issues and the impact policy can have;

o Good verbal and written communication skills, to write reports and present findings;

o Strong interpersonal skills for developing and maintaining relationships;

o Teamworking skills and the ability to work well independently;

o Confidence in using Microsoft office software and a range of digital tools and platforms;

o Project management skills to oversee all aspects of a research project right through from initial plans to the final report;

o Accuracy and attention to detail for handling data and reporting research findings;

o A flexible approach to work, with the ability to work on several different research projects simultaneously;

o Organisation skills, good time management and the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.

REQUIREMENTS

o Fluency in English is a MUST. Additional UN languages are a plus;

o At least 4 years of research experience;

o At least 2 years of experience working for a government authority, INGO and/or private sector.

Youth Advantage UK is a charitable organisation that uses a research-led approach to inform policy work and projects that aim to promote and further the human rights of young people aged 11 to 25 across the United Kingdom.

About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity for someone with a PhD or Research Master’s degree to join our team as a Human Rights Research Manager. You will use your academic and practical experience to guide and manage our research functions, with a particular focus on human rights issues affecting young people in the UK.

You will initially focus on managing our preliminary research function, which investigates key topics to inform and direct our work in protecting the rights and interests of young people.

Responsibilities

• Manage the welfare and development of research team members
• Oversee day-to-day operations of research teams and provide cover during absences (including conducting research when needed)
• Monitor and report on research performance and progress
• Provide expert advice and feedback on human rights research matters
• Line manage senior researchers and support their development
• Guide and manage research workflows, ensuring ethical standards and policy compliance
• Ensure research aligns with organisational goals and strategic direction
• Lead research planning and contribute to long-term strategy
• Maintain oversight of all research activities and ensure high-quality outputs

You Will Need

• A PhD or Master’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., Human Rights, Social Policy, Law, Sociology, or related disciplines)
• Experience in a research leadership or operational role
• A strong understanding of human rights issues affecting young people in the UK
• The ability to motivate and manage a team effectively
• Excellent communication and organisational skills
