Which roles and areas are we looking for?

1. Managers: Manages a youth project or activity, as well as manages and motivates volunteer youth workers.
2. Lead Youth Workers: Leads on youth work sessions or classes and ensures high quality activities and provides leadership.
3. Youth Worker: Engages directly with young people, facilitating activities, mentoring, and providing support
4. Mentor: Offers one-on-one guidance to help young people develop skills, confidence, and resilience
5. Befriender: Builds relationships with young people, providing companionship and emotional support.
6. Activity Coordinator: Plans and organises events, workshops, and recreational activities.
7. Safeguarding Officer: Ensures the safety and well-being of all participants, managing safeguarding policies and procedures.
8. Youth Work Trainer: Provides training for volunteers, around youth work, including skills and competencies. This includes on site, remotely and also in a training room.

About Children With Voices

Children With Voices is a grassroots community charity based in Hackney, committed to supporting young people and families through initiatives that promote mental health, well-being, food sustainability, and youth empowerment. Through creative programming like Jumping Beans, the Food Hub, and holiday clubs, we aim to foster inclusive, healthy, and thriving communities.

Role Overview

We are looking for a passionate and creative Volunteer Photographer/Videographer to help us capture engaging photo and video content across our community projects. This role is ideal for someone looking to build their portfolio, gain experience in the charity sector, and contribute to meaningful causes. You'll work closely with our Social Media Manager and be an essential part of how we tell our story to the public.

Key Responsibilities

• Attend and photograph/video activities at our Food Hub on Thursdays

• Capture content during Jumping Beans and other community events

• Collaborate with the Social Media Manager to plan, produce, and edit engaging visual content

• Support the creation of digital assets (short videos, reels, photos, behind-the-scenes clips, etc.)

• Organise and file digital content for use across platforms

• Respect the privacy and safeguarding needs of children and families

• Represent the charity in a professional and compassionate manner

Time Commitment

• Mondays: Office-based (between 11am–4pm, hours flexible) to work alongside our Social Media Manager

• Thursdays: On-site at the Food Hub (between 12pm–2pm, flexible)

• Additional remote editing/content creation hours based on your availability

• Flexibility offered around academic or work commitments

Person Specification

Essential:

• Access to your own camera or video equipment

• Some experience in photography and/or videography (personal or professional)

• Strong visual storytelling skills and creative flair

• Basic editing skills (e.g., using Canva, Adobe Premiere, iMovie, or similar)

• Good interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively

• Respect for confidentiality and safeguarding protocols

Desirable:

• Experience working with community organisations or in event settings

• Interest in youth empowerment, food justice, or social impact

At WWT we are aiming to inspire the next generation of nature-lovers. We believe the best way of doing this is to foster emotional connections to nature at our sites and where people live.

One of the ways we do this is through our learning programme and, in particular, through Generation Wild, our flagship nature connection project for children and families from disadvantaged communities. In this role you will be engaging our younger visitors by bringing the life-sized puppet ‘Ava’ to life as part of this project. As a puppeteer, you are key to making the experience a truly magical one for the children

Volunteers are an essential part of the WWT team. You'll get a warm welcome, including information on training, equipment and anything else you need. 

About You

• Someone passionate about inspiring children to develop and emotional connection with nature.
   
• Previous puppetry / theatre experience would be beneficial but is in no way essential. This role will suit you if you are reasonably extrovert and have good stamina!!

• Experience either in an educational setting or in an environment involving children would be an advantage.

This role is only suitable for over 18's.

Branch Trustees

RSPCA Stort Valley Branch – multiple opportunities

Help us make the world a better place for animals

RSPCA Branches rescue, rehabilitate and rehome those animals most at risk through clinics, animal centres, boarding and fostering facilities; offer advice and education on animal welfare; and support with microchipping, neutering and subsidised animal treatments for animals owned by people in financial difficulty.

Each RSPCA branch (of which there are approx. 150) is a separately registered charity, operating at a local level across England and Wales. Branches did 78% of the rehoming activity across the RSPCA network in 2020 and took more than 31,000 animals into their care. There are also over 300 RSPCA charity shops, all of which are run by RSPCA branches. The RSPCA has been at the forefront of animal welfare since 1824 when we were founded in a London coffee shop, and we’re proud to be the oldest animal welfare charity around.

What does RSPCA Stort Valley Branch do?

We cover an area either side of the M11 from Saffron Walden in the north to Harlow in the south and fundraise and offer welfare services within this area.

The animal welfare services that we offer are centred around our busy clinic in Harlow and include:

•  Subsidised routine veterinary treatment and microchipping for owned animals - in 2024, we made over 2,200 consultations at our Harlow clinic and administered more than 500 vaccinations and 250 microchips.
•  Advice and education
• Community outreach

We operate a charity shop in Bishops Stortford town centre, selling clothes, books, games and other items to help with our fundraising.

In addition to our Harlow clinic, we work closely with RSPCA animal centres and inspectors to support their work and to look after and re-home animals rescued in our branch area. We also support neighbouring branches by seeing some owned animals from their nearby towns at our clinic. We are working to improve our fostering network to help with rehoming, and are keen to step up our fundraising work to enable us to provide additional welfare support to the community.

What do RSPCA branch trustees do?

RSPCA branch trustees are volunteers who shape the work that the branch does, and are collectively responsible for governing and managing the affairs of the branch. “Trustees have overall control of a charity and are responsible for making sure it’s doing what it was set up to do.” “Trustees are the people who lead the charity and decide how it is run.” “They may be known by other titles, such as: directors, board members, governors, committee members” - Charity Commission. At Stort Valley, we have a lovely team of staff and volunteers with experienced, capable people managing our shop and clinic day-to-day. Trustees will set the strategy, make the big decisions and lead on new initiatives.

Stort Valley Branch is presently in the process of converting to a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (‘CIO’), the modern legal form for many charities - loosely equivalent to a Limited Company. We expect to complete the change in the second half of this year (2025).

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for applications from people from all social and cultural backgrounds, who are passionate about improving animal welfare. It doesn’t matter whether you are an experienced trustee or not, as trustee training and induction will be provided. If you can bring relevant skills and experience from other aspects of your life, that’s great, and we’re pretty sure you’ll learn some new ones here!

Right now, we would like to recruit several additional Trustees. We’ll define and re-balance the roles of all the Trustees once our new Trustees have settled in, so we’re not necessarily looking for you to select a specific role at this stage. The opportunities could include taking the lead on fundraising, overseeing our clinic or shop, increasing our local outreach and education activities, enhancing our online presence and recognition, and more. Ideally, for some of the roles, you’ll be relatively local to the branch area; others can be done remotely.

We hold monthly Trustees’ meetings, which last 1.5~2 hours. We ask for Trustees to join as many of these meetings as possible. You’ll also need to allow time to prepare for meetings - creating or reading through any relevant documents in advance – and of course, for the specific activities you take on. We normally meet in the evening, online (Google Meet), at times chosen to suit Trustees’ availability.

Trustees are elected or re-elected for a 12-month term at the branch’s Annual General Meeting (AGM). Between AGMs, branches have the ability to co-opt an additional three trustees who serve until the next AGM and can then be elected.

Citizens Advice Sheffield is Sheffield’s leading provider of advice services and advocacy services. We help about 20,000 people a year with a range of issues. Our services are confidential, independent, impartial and free. We are an independent charity and a member of the Citizens Advice network and Law Centres Network.

Our social media aims to ensure that clients have up-to-date information about what services are available to them and how to access them; to engage with and promote ourselves to potential external stakeholders and partners; to promote our research and campaigns work and to help potential clients self-serve. To do this we share self-help resources, social policy campaigns, and community-interest content, job and volunteer vacancies and more. 

We’re seeking volunteers who are self motivated, creative, aligned with our values and want the opportunity to build their social media campaigns portfolio; someone who understands social media platforms, trends and relevant software. Ideally, you will have experience of social media volunteering or management and will be able to help us in developing our online presence.

This is a flexible role and volunteers can be based at home after initial training at our city centre office. Some tasks will involve travel to our office and other outreach locations across Sheffield.

About Holding On Letting Go (HOLG):

Holding On Letting Go is a charity supporting bereaved children, young people, and their families after the loss of a loved one. We provide specialist bereavement support, training for professionals, and outreach programmes to help children navigate their grief in a safe and understanding environment.

Role Overview:

We are looking for a proactive and detail-oriented volunteer to support our fundraising efforts by researching funding opportunities and helping to organise grant applications. This role is ideal for someone with strong research and organisational skills who is eager to make a meaningful impact in a flexible and remote capacity.

Key Responsibilities:

• Research and identify grant and trust funding opportunities that align with HOLG’s mission and activities.
• Compile key information about each funding opportunity, including deadlines, eligibility criteria, application questions, and funder priorities, in a structured format.
• Assist in reviewing and prioritising potential funding opportunities based on suitability for HOLG.
• Organise and archive past grant applications, ensuring a structured and accessible digital filing system.
• Support the team by keeping funding research up to date and easy to access for future applications.
• Collaborate with finance/fundraising staff to ensure grant research aligns with fundraising priorities.

Qualifications and Skills:

• Strong research and analytical skills.
• Excellent organisational and time-management abilities.
• Ability to work independently and maintain attention to detail.
• Proficiency in using spreadsheets, online databases, and digital filing systems.
• Interest in fundraising and nonprofit grant processes (previous experience a plus but not essential!).
• Passion for HOLG’s mission and supporting bereaved children and families.

About Access Academia

Access Academia is the charitable umbrella which was created out of the creation of the student-led publication, the Journal of Intersectional Social Justice. When Journal of Intersectional Social Justice (JISJ) was created, there were not any expectations for the project to be any more than that: a student-led academic publication. However, as it rolled on, attention for the project widened and it began to cover other topics and get involved in other realms of knowledge sharing, activism, and content creation. The creation of the seminal Access Series on the Intersections blog springboarded the idea for the JISJ to turn into something much more than a simple academic publication. Now as we have restructured the JISJ into Access Academia, we are finalising our official registration as a charitable incorporated organisation (CIO) in the UK. 

Our core purpose is to Make Academia More Accessible. We plan to accomplish this by many different avenues, as obviously it is a very wide-ranging goal! The main ways we plan to do this are through encouraging Open Access academia and knowledge sharing through the Access Series, expanding the themes covered on Intersections with additions such as Mental Health Mondays and Colonialism in Subject, creating accessible content across our social media platforms which encourages truthful and accurate knowledge sharing and activism, running research events to encourage students to publish and interact with academia, covering inside stories of academia, running student engagement programmes to try and make academia less of an Ivory Tower, and much more!

What is a Volunteership?

A volunteership is a unique hybrid opportunity that combines elements of volunteering and interning. Participants commit to working with a charity or nonprofit organization for a specified period of time, fulfilling a set of responsibilities and expectations. In return, they gain valuable experience, receive a letter of recommendation, and are offered LinkedIn endorsements. Additionally, they may have the chance to continue working with the charity through future hiring cycles as long as they remain a student. This experience provides both personal fulfillment through giving back to the community and professional development for future career opportunities.

Volunteership: Events & Programmes Coordinator
Duration: May to August 2025
Eligibility: Must be currently enrolled as a student

Requirements:

• Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or postgraduate program.

• Strong interest in event planning, programme coordination, and nonprofit work.

• Excellent organizational skills with the ability to multitask and prioritize.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

• Ability to work independently as well as in a team setting.

• Prior experience in event planning or project coordination is a plus, but not required.

• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and Google Workspace.

• A passion for contributing to social impact and supporting charitable initiatives.

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Event Planning & Execution:

  • Assist in the planning, coordination, and execution of monthly charity events. This is a minimum of 1 online event per month.

  • Work closely with team members to ensure events are organized efficiently, within budget, and aligned with the charity’s mission.

  • Help with logistics, setup, and support during events.

  • Manage guest lists, invitations, and event communications.

• Annual Research Programme Coordination:

  • Support the coordination of the charity’s annual research programme. This is currently an annual programme, the Social Justice Research Fellowship, running in 2025 from June 2nd - August 8th.

  • Assist in organizing logistics, outreach, and scheduling for research participants.

  • Ensure that resources and materials are available for programme participants.

  • Track the progress of the programme and report on key milestones.

  • Contribute to planing and logistical initiatives surrounding expanding the provisions of research programmes, including brainstorming and coordination for potential new programmes.

• Collaboration & Teamwork:

  • Collaborate with internal teams and volunteers to ensure smooth event and programme execution.

  • Participate in regular team meetings, contributing ideas and insights.

  • Provide feedback and suggestions for improving the efficiency of events and programmes.

  • Participate in Outreach & Marketing meetings and follow direction provided from Senior Staff.

• Post-Event & Programme Reporting:

  • Help in post-event evaluations, collecting feedback from participants, and reporting on outcomes.

  • Assist in maintaining and updating event and programme documentation for future reference.

Who are BCF?

Burmantofts Community Friends (BCF) is a community-driven charity in East Leeds, dedicated to improving the lives of older people (55+) in the LS9 area. We provide practical support with daily activities, trips, information, advocacy, outreach, and well-being services. We work closely with residents, volunteers, and local partners to make a positive impact, always with a friendly, welcoming approach.

What Will a Bus Buddy Do?

As a Bus Buddy with Burmantofts Community Friends (BCF), you will be an essential part of supporting local residents aged 55+ in the LS9 area. Your primary role will be to ensure safe and reliable transport for individuals attending our activities, events, fitness sessions, trips, and other community services. You’ll assist our Community Driver and members with mobility challenges, helping to provide a smooth and stress-free journey to and from these services. Full training will be provided. Bus Buddies will help members from their doorstep onto the vehicle, greet all passengers, and sit at the back of the vehicle to monitor and assist where needed.

No specific experience required! We’re looking for passionate individuals who want to make a positive impact and are eager to learn. Whether you’re retired and looking to make use of your spare time, a student or job seeker wanting to develop new skills, or someone who lives locally (or nearby – our location is super easy to reach from the city centre), we want to hear from you! Local knowledge is a bonus, but it’s not essential – we’re all about making a difference, no matter your background.
