About the role

Become a vital part of our 70th Anniversary! We're looking for a passionate volunteer to join our 4-person Philanthropy and Special Events team for 6 months. Work directly with our Special Events Manager, gaining practical experience as you help deliver a spectacular 70th-anniversary drinks reception for high-value audiences on November 26th 2025 in central London, set to raise £30,000 to ensure the sustainability of our services for years to come.

Key Duties: 

• Research and identify companies and individuals to approach for silent auction prize donations for our 70th-anniversary event, which aims to raise £30,000 to support children and adults with complex needs.
• Contact potential prize donors via email and phone.
• Accurately log all donor communications and prize details on team files and our database.
• Collect key prize information (descriptions, terms, expiry dates) and arrange/coordinate delivery of prizes and vouchers for the event.
• Assist with essential event administration, including creating name badges, inputting guest access and dietary requirements onto a central system, and compiling guestlists onto a check-in system.
• Option to provide event day support on the evening of November 26th in central London.
• Opportunity to gain insight into other areas of event management based on interest, such as invitation concept development, donor stewardship, or drafting communications.
• Maintain a confidential, sensitive, and discrete approach to personal, sensitive, and organisational information.
• Be prepared to assist with various tasks as needed to support event delivery.

The role will involve:

• Helping Sense to raise vital funds to support people with complex needs, via gold standard Special Events.
• Representing the organisation in a positive professional manner, supporting the vision that no one is left out of life.

This role would suit you if you’re: 

• Experienced in working in an office environment or have or are working towards a qualification in event or project management.
• Able to demonstrate excellent written, and verbal communication skills with good attention to detail.
• Able to build good relationships and build rapport easily with a wide range of people.
• You have ideas of appropriate companies to make approaches to or have personal connections to potential high value prizes (desirable).
• Proficient in using a PC and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and comfortable with email/internet. Familiarity with AI systems is desirable.
• Ability to work independently and manage a variety of tasks effectively.
• Possesses a strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, demonstrating respect for all individuals, their unique perspectives, and varied backgrounds (including but not limited to age, disability, gender, race, religion, or sexual orientation).

Volunteer Sunday Admissions Assistant

You'll be multitasking throughout the day, with a mix of responsibilities including customer service, ticket sales, promoting Gift Aid donations, shop duties, guiding visitors and providing information about the Museum and the collection. If you enjoy a fast-paced environment and love engaging with people, this is the role for you. 

The Volunteer Admissions Assistant role is all about making a lasting impression and creating a memorable visitor experience. You’ll be:

• Welcoming and engaging with visitors, sharing information about the museum and its collection.
• Selling tickets and gift shop items, ensuring smooth transactions and great customer service.
• Collecting data for Gift Aid and marketing purposes, including how visitors found out about us.
• Creating positive experiences to encourage return visits and word-of-mouth recommendations.
• Helping visitors explore the Museum through interpretation, answering questions and distributing trails, accessibility and family activities.
• Maintaining the gift shop, including restocking, counting stock, and setting up attractive displays.

This role offers plenty of variety, and you'll play an important part in making every visitor's experience unforgettable.

Training and support:

All volunteers will first be invited for a trial shift.  We have an induction and training process, during which we give volunteers the information they need to enjoy their time with us. Training is mainly 'on the job', supported by an experienced volunteer as well as the manager on duty. Volunteers are given regular feedback and we remain open to suggestions on how we can improve the volunteer experience. The Admissions Assistant receives continued training and development throughout their time with us.

Availability:

We are looking for Sunday volunteers to support our reopening.  We are looking for volunteers who would ideally like to donate 2-4 shifts per month, as a 11am-2pm shift, a 2pm-5pm shift, or a full day, for a minimum of 3 months. Ideally you will be able to start immediately, although this is not essential. Travel expenses up to £5 will be paid, with up to an additional £5 for lunch expenses if you are on a full day shift.

Please note: Applicants from some overseas countries are required to have a relevant work permit or student visa to volunteer in the U.K. We’ll need to see this for our records before volunteering can commence.

Jabalie

Jabalie is a UK charity working internationally with survivors and individuals that are at high risk of gender-based violence.

“Gender-based violence” (GBV) is violence or abuse that is directed against a person or community because of their gender identity or expression, or the violence or abuse affects persons of a particular gender disproportionately. Gender-based violence affects people of all genders, including women and girls, men and boys, transgender individuals, and non-binary people. However, women and girls are disproportionately affected.

Some key statistics include: • One in three women and girls globally will experience some form of violence in their lifetime. • One in four men globally have experienced sexual or physical violence by an intimate partner. • One in four LGBTQ+ individuals have experienced violence or abuse by an intimate partner.

Many victims feel unable to leave their relationship and for those that do, many return to their abuser for a variety of reasons - for example, because they are financially dependent on them, or remain emotionally controlled by them. It takes an average of 7 times for a victim to leave an abusive relationship permanently.

Jabalie is a UK charity that aims to educate and empower survivors and individuals at high-risk of gender-based violence to promote their safety, autonomy and economic independence. We are developing an education and empowerment programme to help build survivors' knowledge, skills and confidence so they can build their lives outside the shelter and become financially independent.

The programme will have 5 areas: (1) Understanding GBV; (2) Skills Development; (3) Legal Rights; (4) Women's Health; and (5) Mental Health. We will also have a training of trainers programme, advocacy against GBV, and are building a community of survivors and GBV activists. I've attached our Strategic Plan 2024-27 with further details.

Our pilot programme will be created in the UK and Kenya using a model that can be upscaled internationally.

We provide an education and empowerment programme, training, advocacy and a community platform.

We are partnering with local community organisations to deliver the programme to communities.

Marketing Strategist

Jabalie is a UK charity that aims to educate and empower survivors and individuals at high-risk of gender-based violence to promote their safety, autonomy and economic independence.

We are a small charity that is entirely volunteer-led. We are therefore seeking a proactive volunteer to assist our Marketing and Communications Trustee in building the marketing, communications and branding strategy for Jabalie.

This role includes:

• Creating a social media strategy and content calendar to raise our brand awareness;
• Pitching ideas for social media posts related to raising awareness of gender-based violence and the other areas of our work (skills development, legal rights, women's health and mental health);
• Creating and overseeing marketing campaigns to boost engagement and reach donors for fundraising;
• Conducting market research to identify trends, opportunities, and competitor activities;
• Ensuring brand consistency across all social media channels;
• Analysing marketing data to track performance and optimise future strategies; and
• Delegating tasks to other Marketing Team volunteers, including graphic designs and content writers.

As a small organisation, we are looking for a volunteer that has a few hours per week to commit to this role. The time commitment will likely reduce once we have made progress with our strategy. The period of volunteering is flexible, but we will prioritise applicants that would like to commit to 6 months or more.

Activity Lead Volunteer

As Volunteer Activity Lead, you will provide support to the Community Liaison Coordinator to deliver activities to clients we support in West Midlands.

We provide support to people seeking asylum in West Midlands while their asylum claims are being considered. Being new to communities, our clients need additional help to reduce isolation and help develop their confidence. We do that by organising activities that keep them busy, engaged and connected with locally available services. Your role is to help the Community Liaison Coordinator help deliver and manage those activities – you will encourage clients to come, design posters, help foster a friendly and non-judgmental environment. You will help with outings and proactively include clients in brainstorming ideas on activities that will make the most positive difference in their lives.

Your role is crucial in complementing existing Migrant Help services by helping provide additional opportunities for clients to improve their skills and develop confidence.

• Organise and deliver activities to people seeking asylum in agreed locations weekly
• Promote a safe and non-judgemental environment for people joining activities
• Organise and adapt activities centring clients’ voice
• Communicate with other volunteers and Community Liaison Coordinator to deliver activities smoothly
• Together with community liaison coordinator, research and reach out to external organisations to better variety and quality of sessions to our clients
• Encourage clients’ independence and provide words of encouragement, empathy
• Together with Migrant Help staff organise themed events for our clients (for example, Refugee Week, religious celebrations and etc)
• Pack and store items securely in agreed locations
• Organise and support outings for clients.
• Create interactive posters to encourage clients to engage in activities
• Help promote and advertise activities to clients and external organisations
• Be a point of contact for clients during activities and forward any concerns to community liaison coordinator
• Regularly communicate with community liaison coordinator and openly share successes, challenges and ideas on improvement.

What we expect from you

​

• Complete relevant induction and training provided by Migrant Help
• Undergo a criminal conviction check (DBS, PVG or AccessNI).
• Commit to volunteering for a minimum of 6 months, at agreed times.
• Attend volunteer support sessions as required.
• Complete feedback forms when required highlighting any growth opportunities and honestly communicating what is not working well
• Adhere to confidentiality and safeguarding procedures
• Uphold Migrant Help’s values.
• Start volunteering at an agreed time and be punctual
• Complete all relevant documentation as required by volunteer coordinator
• Be open and understanding of different customs, values, and beliefs

​What you not be able to do

​

• Volunteer with us if you are under 18.
• Exchange contact information with clients
• Buy gifts, food or lend or give/receive money to/from clients
• Carry out casework tasks, such as, complete benefits applications, liaise with local authorities or refer to other services or provide immigration advice

Managing content for the charity's social media platforms, monitoring performance and establishing and/or maintaining active social media accounts, in addition to researching and creating creative content for different social media channels.

What will you be doing?

• Creating and managing daily social media posts across all social media platforms e.g. Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, TikTok and LinkedIn.
• Develop new, engaging warm-hearted content to increase interest and attract supporters. 
• Working in conjunction with the Marketing Manager and CEO, be responsible for posting original, high-quality content (twice per week) to improve our brand presence, grab the attention of our target audience and drive growth.
• Assist with creating our new social media strategy 

What are we looking for?

Why we want you
Please note: This role is only suitable for applicants aged
18 and over.
We’re seeking friendly, reliable individuals aged 18 or over who want to make a
difference in their community. No prior experience is needed, as we provide full
training. If you’re open to learning, enjoy working with others, and have a
passion for helping people, you’ll fit right in!
You have the time to become a volunteer in your community; you might be
looking for work experience, the opportunity to meet new people, or keep
active.
By volunteering with us in one of our amazing retail spaces
you will be raising essential funds for Oxfam – all whilst
learning new skills and meeting some incredible people.
What you will be doing
Undertaking shop related tasks agreed with the Manager, for example:
Selecting, sorting, and pricing donated stock.
Chatting to customers, giving great service on the till.
Researching valuable and vintage stock.
Visual merchandising: creating eye-catching window and in-store displays.
Photographing and listing items for the online shop.
This role may include occasionally lifting boxes. We prioritise a safe
working environment and provide comprehensive health and safety
training to all volunteers.
