As an Access Information and Empowerment Officer, you will be at the forefront of making this a reality by supporting individuals who face discrimination or unfair treatment when trying to access public services.
In this role you will:
· Empower and Support Our Guide Dog Owners: Use your skills and expertise to assist individuals who have been refused access to services when they are accompanied by their guide dog. You’ll be the crucial link that helps them challenge unfair treatment, offering information, support, and resources.
· Make Connections: You’ll play a key role in signposting and referring blind and partially sighted people to other organisations when additional support or information is needed, ensuring people have access to a wide range of resources.
· Be the Voice of Change: Collect, record, and report data on incidents of discrimination, which will feed into national campaigns and media efforts to drive lasting change. Your reports will directly inform our strategy and response to accessibility challenges.
· Engaging with Service Providers: Providing information to service providers on how they can ensure they are opening their doors to welcome blind and partially sighted people including guide dog owners.
If you’re passionate about empowering people with sight loss, and have lived or learnt experience of sight loss, we’d love to hear from you.
This role can be homebased, with the option to work from your nearest Guide Dogs office with hybrid working arrangements depending on your preference. You’ll be working 21 hours per week, worked Monday to Friday with working pattern to be agreed.

As our Community Hub Manager, you will be responsible for the day-to-day running of the Makery, leading a dedicated team of staff and volunteers to ensure a welcoming, safe, and responsive environment for all who walk through our doors. You will be both a leader and a team player, ready to step in wherever needed—whether that’s handling a safeguarding referral, supporting a distressed visitor, or simply making a cup of tea.
Your responsibilities will include:
• Service Management & Safeguarding
• Overseeing the delivery of frontline support, ensuring best practices in crisis response, safeguarding, and risk assessment.
• Making safeguarding, MARAC, and other urgent referrals as needed.
• Ensuring compliance with safeguarding protocols and legal obligations.
• Leadership & Staff Management
• Recruiting, training, and supervising a team of staff and volunteers, providing guidance and professional development.
• Conducting regular supervisions and performance management.
• Leading by example—supporting and empowering the team while being hands-on when needed.
• Community Engagement & Networking
• Building and maintaining relationships with partner organisations, charities, and statutory services.
• Representing the Makery at networking events and strengthening our presence within the community.
• Identifying and developing new services or partnerships based on community needs.
• Operations & Financial Management
• Overseeing the hub’s budget, ensuring financial sustainability.
• Managing administrative tasks related to service delivery, including data reporting.
• Ensuring smooth day-to-day operations, from managing appointments to responding to urgent requests.
We are looking for a passionate, resilient, and adaptable individual who:
• Has proven experience in managing a frontline community service, crisis response, or advocacy-based role.
• Holds strong knowledge of safeguarding procedures, risk assessments, and making safeguarding referrals.
• Has experience in staff and volunteer management, including training, supervision, and performance support.
• Can manage budgets, oversee operational tasks, and ensure smooth service delivery.
• Is a confident networker and relationship-builder, able to strengthen our connections with local agencies and services.
• Can think on their feet, work flexibly, and respond effectively to unpredictable situations.
• Is a team player, willing to get stuck in—whether it’s making a safeguarding referral, supporting a visitor in distress, or helping with practical tasks around the hub.
• Is compassionate and non-judgmental, with a strong commitment to inclusion and empowerment.
Qualifications and Experience (Essential)
• A degree in social work, psychology, mental health, or a closely related field, OR NVQ Level 3/4 or A-level standard education in a relevant subject.
• Proven experience in a management role within mental health, psychology-based interventions, or community engagement.
• Strong knowledge and direct application of safeguarding, trauma-informed practices, and person-centered approaches.
• Demonstrated ability to develop and manage programs, support vulnerable individuals, and engage with diverse communities in a professional capacity.
• Clear evidence of leading teams, managing staff, and overseeing service delivery in a relevant setting.

Join Addiction Family Support
Addiction Family Support is a UK-based charity dedicated to supporting adults affected or bereaved by a loved one's harmful use of alcohol, drugs, or gambling.
The Role: Family Support Worker (Bereavement)
As a Family Support Worker at Addiction Family Support, you will provide crucial emotional and practical assistance to individuals bereaved by the loss of a loved one due to addiction. You will be responsible for delivering a range of services to provide support to people bereaved (and affected) by someone else’s harmful use of alcohol, drugs or gambling. Through both individual and group support, you will offer a compassionate and understanding presence, helping people navigate grief and loss in a safe and supportive environment.
Our service delivery takes place via several methods, including taking calls on our telephone Helpline, responding to emails through our email service and delivering the 5-Step Method intervention to individuals, couples and groups and facilitating group support via an online platform.
Working patterns are flexible to allow our services to run from 9am and 9pm 7 days a week. You may be expected to work on a rota basis, covering shifts during this period.
We would hope to be able to offer more hours per week in time when funding allows it.
You will need to be confident in your ability to provide support via a variety of remote and digital platforms, being able to respond to immediate requests for support. You will be an active and involved member of our team and contribute to all aspects of our work to help us achieve our strategic goals and work towards achieving our vision.
Responsibilities:
- Offer empathetic and non-judgmental emotional support to those affected by the bereavement of a loved one due to addiction (via a Helpline and adapted 5-Step Method).
- Provide information, literature, and resources to help individuals and groups manage grief and cope with their situations.
- Facilitate or co-facilitate bereavement support group meetings, creating a safe space for participants to share their experiences and provide mutual support.
- Respond to inquiries and offer structured emotional support through helplines or support groups, following guidelines and safeguarding practices.
- Maintain accurate and confidential records in line with GDPR and the charity’s policies.
- Ensure safeguarding concerns are addressed promptly and signpost individuals to additional services where appropriate.
Ongoing Support
