The Coroners' Courts Support Service (CCSS) is a registered Charity whose trained volunteers give emotional and practical support to bereaved families and other witnesses attending an inquest.
We need volunteers to provide emotional support and practical help to bereaved families, witnesses and others attending Inquests at Coroners' Court. Our volunteers at court also provide help and assistance to the Coroners' Officers, as and when required.
We are looking for reliable, supportive people with excellent communication skills. A mature and calm attitude is needed in order to be able to talk to people during a sometimes bewildering and emotional experience. Volunteers must be willing to undergo a period of observations and shadowing, as well as attend a 3 day training course. A minimum commitment of one day (9:00am - 5:00pm) per fortnight is asked for. Training and mentoring is provided and travel expenses to the court are reimbursed.
New volunteers should possess good communication and listening skills and the ability to empathise with people they support.

Replenishment and Merchandising Volunteer - New Volunteer Oppportunity in Acorn's Children's Hospice Superstore - opening soon in Tewkesbury!
The Role
Acorns have a network of shops across the West Midlands that generate a substantial level of income to enable us to care for children and their families. Our empowered Replenishment and Merchandising Volunteers support the team by replenishing stock on the shop floor and by merchandising it in an eye catching and engaging fashion.
How much time will it take?
Our shops are open Monday to Saturday (some open on Sundays too), 9am to 5pm. You can volunteer the hours that suit you, but ideally we’ll need you to be available for at least 3 hours per week.

Client Support volunteer - Blackpool
Role summary
You will be an invaluable part of the team supporting the Shelter Lancashire hub to deliver frontline services in local community settings in Blackpool. This volunteer role is about developing your knowledge and skills to support local people with a range of benefit, debt and housing issues, providing practical support for clients and helping people to help themselves. You will gain experience of volunteering within a recognised national housing charity, while supporting your local community.
Suggested Involvement: minimum of 4 hours per week (can be more & can be flexible around your commitments).
Availability: This volunteering opportunity will take place within our working hours, Monday-Friday, 9am – 5pm

As a client support volunteer your activity could involve phone, online, email and face to face contact (as appropriate) to clients needing help and guidance around a range of housing, benefit and debt issues. This role supports our specialist advice and community work and enables us to offer and deliver a broader range of help to the local community. There is also the opportunity to support involvement with people with lived experience and engage in our local and national campaigning activities.
Range of activities
- Meeting and greeting clients contacting the service.
- Assisting clients with form filling, paperwork and applications around housing, benefit and debt processes.
- Showing clients how to log in and navigate online forms.
- Digital skills, supporting people with language barriers to access information.
- Helping people become confident in navigating online systems so people can find help.
- Giving out information and leaflets and supporting clients to use our website.
- ‘Signposting’ people to other services and making referrals to other agencies we work with.
- Contacting clients for appointments, feedback on their case, opinions on the services accessed.
- Updating and maintaining our agencies database.
- Shadowing Advice/Case Workers in the hub and in community settings and providing support where needed.
Skills and experiences required
- Effective communication skills and the willingness to understand the needs of our customers.
- Interest in social welfare law e.g. housing; welfare benefits; debt; community care
- Ability or a willingness to work towards organising and managing your own activity.
- Ability to use computers and programs such as Word and Excel and experience of accessing the Internet
- Willingness to follow Shelter’s policies, including volunteering, health & safety, GDPR, equality & diversity & confidentiality.

We are setting up a new arts and crafts group based at Complex needs service in Scunthorpe. The service is centrally located and easily accessible by public transport. We are looking for a sessional Arts and crafts volunteer who can deliver weekly sessions to our service users. We’re looking for three volunteers over the age of 18 years old, based in various locations:

You’ll be volunteering one afternoon every two weeks in blocks of 6 sessions. Depending on venue chosen, may be Tuesday/Wednesday or Thursday.
We are looking for communication service supporters to assist stroke survivors in developing their communication skills on a one-to-one basis in their homes or out in their local community so that they can access activities and services.
The volunteers will:
· Be an effective communication service supporter you need great listening skills and be able to support people in an empathetic and non-judgemental way.
· Be willing to learn and use the technique, called ‘supported conversation’, that is used to support people with communication difficulties.

We are looking for Client Support Volunteers to assist in the Garden alongside our horticulturists in the supervision of our adult clients and teenagers with a variety of disabilities.
Our volunteers work in the garden with clients, helping them with various tasks such as planting, harvesting, pruning and mowing to name a few, under the guidance of our team of horticulturists.
As well as general gardening work you will be assisting our clients, both children and adults with the opportunity to achieve a qualification in horticulture.
Other tasks our volunteers help with include general garden maintenance, DIY tasks or craft/cookery activities.
No gardening experience is required, just the ability to get along with others and muck in! This can be a great stepping stone to further education or work opportunities.
At present, we are looking for Volunteers who can offer a regular weekly commitment.

Hebden Court supports adults with Complex Needs. The service consists of 17 flats and is close to the centre of town and is easily accessible by public transport.
We are looking for volunteers to deliver fun and engaging activity sessions. Your role would be to set up a weekly board games session. As a volunteer you will be warm, friendly and approachable and enjoy playing games such as monopoly, cluedo and others.
As part of your volunteer role you will help us by setting up the games ready to play ensuring no pieces are missing, teaching people the rules for the game, and tidying away at the end of the session. You will also promote the board games being played each week to our service users and encourage people to join in.
As a volunteer with Creative Support we offer training for your role, access to a volunteer supervisor, an induction, a monthly volunteer newsletter, and an online volunteer support network group on Zoom.

Across the UK, our 270 local groups play a vital part in supporting people affected by MS. They provide sense of belonging, unity and friendship. And they deliver services and support for their local MS community.
We are looking to recruit a Support Volunteer for the Westmorland South Lakes Group. As our local group Support Volunteer you’ll help people affected by MS find information about local and national services. That could be helping someone access local information about the care or benefits they need or giving them a hand with a grant application. See a video about one of our Support Volunteers here.
In this role you’ll be able to develop your listening and communication skills, as well as your knowledge of local services. Most importantly you’ll help people affected by MS to access the help they need.
Time commitment
We estimate this role will need around 2 hours a week. Our roles are flexible and aim to fit around you. Time commitments for this role may vary depending on your activities. This is an ongoing role.
This is a great opportunity to gain experience within a large charity and develop your existing skills and learn new ones. We need you to get involved and help make positive changes to the lives of people affected by MS.
About you
You’ll have an interest in the MS Society and the work that we do, as well as the enthusiasm to represent both us and our values locally. You will understand the needs of people affected by MS in your area and be sympathetic to the needs and motivations of volunteers. You’ll be confident using Microsoft Office, the internet and email. You’ll be able to apply disability, equality and inclusion practices and understand and apply our risk management system. Ideally you’ll understand the local area and organisations that provide local services.
You will be reliable and easy to contact and you need to live in or near the local area the group to carry out this role.
