All Trustees are expected to make an active and dynamic contribution to the Board, the organisation and to supporting our work. Trustees have wide-ranging skills, knowledge, and experience appropriate to governance and strategy.

The overall role of the Treasurer is to maintain an overview of the Charity’s affairs, our strategic planning and to provide guidance to help ensure financial viability and support the requirements underpinning proper financial governance and procedures.

This key role will provide assurance to the Board that the financial resources of YMCA Humber meet its present and future needs, working with the CEO to ensure the Charity complies with relevant legislations, through efficient administration and best practice in good governance.

The ideal candidate will possess: 

• Strategic vision, and a solid understanding and acceptance of the legal responsibilities of Trusteeship.
• Financial or accountancy experience. 
• Good independent judgment, and a high level of credibility within the community.
• Strong leadership skills and a commitment to the work of the Charity.
• Open and transparent approach.
• Ability to work effectively as a member of a team.
• Knowledge of Charity finance or housing association finance.
• Skills to analyse proposals and examine the financial consequences.

It should be noted that the focus of this Trustee role is strategic, and the Treasurer will not be managing the organisation’s finances on a day-to-day basis; however, regular contact and liaison with the Chief Executive Officer and Head of Finance is expected.

RoadPeace is seeking a Treasurer to work with the Board and oversee all financial aspects of the charity’s operation to help secure its financial stability and future sustainability of the organisation.

Who we are

RoadPeace was established in 1992 by Brigitte Chaudry, a mother whose son was violently killed by a van driver who ignored red traffic lights. We are a membership organisation whose work is informed by the needs and experiences of road crash victims. RoadPeace is governed by a Board of Trustees and has a small staff team, who work in partnership with a vibrant network of members and volunteers. RoadPeace provides information and support services to people bereaved or seriously injured in road crashes and engages in campaigning work to fight for justice for victims and reduce road danger.

The role

RoadPeace has a vision for a world where road danger is not tolerated and where road crash victims receive justice and compassion.

We exist to support and empower those bereaved and injured by road crashes and their families; to improve the justice system’s post-crash response and to spare future generations from preventable death and injury. As a membership charity, we put victims at the heart of our work, equipping them to support themselves and others, campaign for change and shape RoadPeace’s work.

Following its 30th anniversary, Roadpeace is looking towards the next chapter and after reviewing how to develop and strengthen the charity, is in the process of creating a new strategy.

We are seeking to appoint a dynamic and compassionate Treasurer to provide financial insight and leadership to the Board, assist with the new strategy and ensure that the organisation has long-term sustainability and delivers its charitable objectives in close cooperation with the Board of Trustees, Chair and CEO.

We would like to work with a Treasurer who has strong empathy with the organisation’s objectives and has some understanding or interest in what it means to be bereaved or seriously injured in a road crash.

Due to Trustee retirement, Braintree Area Foodbank is looking for a new volunteer Finance Trustee. You will be part of Braintree Area Foodbank's board of Trustees, which provides governance and leadership over a Charity that provided over 12,000 meals last year. Braintree Area Foodbank has grown significantly in recent years, with new, exciting projects on the horizon. Brief outline of Braintree Area Foodbank: 

Braintree Area Foodbank started in 2012. We are a part of the Trussell Trust network of food banks and distribute food and other essentials to people in crisis food poverty. We operate over a wide area around Braintree, with distribution centres in Braintree itself, Great Notley, Sible Hedingham, Halstead and Witham, supported by home deliveries where required. We work with a wide range of frontline referral agencies, voluntary and statutory, which are issued with vouchers to enable them to refer clients to the foodbank, having assessed their needs. Clients then visit one of our centres where they are met with light refreshments and a listening ear. Additionally, in order to try to mitigate the underlying cause of the crisis, our centres have information on a wide range of organisations to which clients may be signposted by one our volunteers.

Key duties and responsibilities: 

• Review timesheets, run payroll including the maintenance of this system. Set up payments for travel and remuneration. This includes managing the Inland Revenue system and the pension scheme.
• Monitor and manage our online finance management system, including updating our internal cash flow report.
• Provide supporting financial information for grant applications. Including monitoring and maintaining records for related expenditure for grants received for inclusion in donor reports.
• Review Charity savings including the investigation for new or renewable investments, with the completion of paperwork as necessary.
• Prepare and present the annual budget for the Board of Trustees agreement.
• Complete the SOFA, balance sheet and notes for inclusion in the TAR. This will include liasing with Trustees to support a Trustee commentary to sufficiently explain financial data.
• Obtaining the acceptance of the TAR from Trustees and organise and attend meetings with the Independent Examiner.

The Role

Commitment

Skills and Experience 

In this role you will:

• Advise on the financial implications of We Are Family’s strategic plan.

• Be an active member of the We Are Family Finance, Fundraising & Resources Committee who meet once every quarter.

• Oversee presentation of budgets, internal management accounts and annual financial statements to the board of trustees.

• Lead on the board’s duty to ensure that proper accounting records are kept, financial resources are properly controlled, invested and economically spent, in line with good governance, legal and regulatory requirements.

• Lead the development and implementation of financial reserves, cost management and investment policies.

• Monitor and advise on the financial viability of the charity.

• Oversee the implementation of and monitoring specific financial controls and adherence to systems.

• Oversee the charity’s financial risk management process.

• Review and approve payments (including payroll).

• Be the main point of contact for We Are Family’s bank.

• Act as a counter signatory on important applications to funders.

• Liaise with the appropriate member of staff responsible for the financial activities of the organisation.

• Liaise with the external auditors or independent examiner on specific issues such as the auditor’s or examiner’s management letter and the related board representations. 

This role would suit an individual with:

• Knowledge of charity governance and management

• Experience in a compliance, risk or business management role

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

• Organisation skills, with the ability to work to deadlines

• Good IT skills, to include Zoom and Google Suite or MS Office.

Community Action Malvern & District is a registered charity that has been serving the Malvern area since 1972 and we aim to combat social isolation by connecting people through transport and other community projects delivered by volunteers. Manchester Central Foodbank are a small but rapidly-growing charity at a pivotal moment in our evolution, and we are looking for an exceptional person to take on the role of Treasurer / Trustee.

We have recently established a finance committee, to ensure effective financial controls within our organisation. You will chair this committee of volunteers to support the foodbank in achieving its financial objectives. The finance committee and trustee board both meet every 4-6 weeks. Most of these meetings are online, with an occasional hybrid meeting.

About Manchester Central Foodbank
Manchester Central Foodbank (MCFB) is a Trussell Trust-affiliated food bank, with a centre in Central, North, and East Manchester. We were established in Ardwick in 2013 by students at the Manchester Universities’ Catholic Chaplaincy, making us the first student-led foodbank in the country. Since then we have grown significantly, expanding into Harpurhey and Openshaw, but our goal to end the need for food banks in Manchester has never changed.

Role responsibilities
General financial oversight:

• Liaise with MCF Managers, external accountants and auditors about financial matters.
• Oversee and present budgets, accounts and financial statements to the Board.
• Ensure that robust and effective systems, policies and controls are in place for finance and investment.
• Ensure an effective system of delegation for finance is in place.
• Ensure that record-keeping and accounts meet the conditions of funders and statutory bodies
• Ensure compliance with relevant legislation.
• Ensure suitable financial roles are in place to fulfil our finance function.

Financial performance, reporting, planning & budgeting:

• Advise on the financial implications of strategic and operational plans.
• Oversee regular reports on the organisation’s financial position

• Advise on MCFs reserves policy and our investment policy.

Banking, book-keeping, record-keeping and payroll:

• Payment and recording of all supplier invoices

• Preparation of monthly payroll and payment of staff

Reconciliation of bank accounts on a monthly basis:

Main responsibilities of the trustee:

Time commitment:

·Average 4 hours per month, although this will vary depending on the schedule of meetings and other events.

· 1-2 full board meetings per year (held in person where possible, in St Edmund’s Church, Forest Gate E7 8NP).

· 4-5 subcommittee meetings per year (These meetings are held online via zoom)

· Optional celebratory events – often held at the start of Summer Holidays and Mid December.

· Project visits and other meetings relating to your specific contribution within the board, by arrangement.

Length of term – Initial term 3 years, with potential to extend on review.

Renumeration – The role is voluntary however the cost of attending meetings and other duties associated with the role will be reimbursed.

About the opportunity  

The Smart Works Leeds Board of Trustees consists of: Chair, Treasurer, People, Wardrobe & Property, Corporate Fundraising & Partnerships, Events, and Communications & Media Trustees. 

A fantastic opportunity has arisen to join the Smart Works Leeds Board of Trustees. The newly created Ambassador & Volunteer Trustee will lead on two fundamental activities at the Centre: 

• Ambassadors: Smart Works Leeds currently has one Ambassador. The Board is looking to grow our ambassador community. The position will help identify, onboard and work with the team of Smart Works Leeds Ambassadors to raise the profile of the Charity across the Yorkshire region.
• Volunteers: Smart Works is powered by a community of skilled volunteers who use their time, talents and kindness to help our clients. The position will oversee volunteer management and engagement for Smart Works Leeds and will work closely with the staff team to keep the volunteer community motivated and engaged in the charity’s mission.

General Duties of a Smart Works Trustee 

• Work with the Chair of the Board of Trustees to ensure the centre is well-run and governed effectively. 
• Provide support to determine the strategic direction of the Centre. 
• Advocate for the Centre, raising its profile and the awareness of the Smart Works service in the geographic area. 
• Build strong working relationships with the Chair, fellow trustees, staff, volunteers and supporters. 
• Work in a small team and tailor strong interpersonal and communication skills to all levels of seniority.

Personal Specification 

The successful Ambassador and Volunteer Lead Trustee will have excellent interpersonal skills and stakeholder management experience. 

They will use their skills and experience to attract, utilise and maximise the Ambassadors for Smart Works Leeds and they will nurture, coordinate and motivate the Smart Works Leeds volunteer community. 

As this is a voluntary, unpaid role it requires a self-starting and proactive approach with the capacity and time to challenge, engage and contribute to the work of the Board in a positive manner. 

It is essential that all applicants believe in the mission of Smart Works and align with our core values, share a commitment to fairness and to promote equity, diversity, and inclusion, acting at all times with honesty and integrity.
