Women's Aid Luton is seeking a visionary and dedicated Chair of the Board to lead and support the transformation and growth of our small yet impactful charity.

Women’s Aid Luton supports over 800 of society's most vulnerable women and children each year, helping them escape horrific abuse and violence. We provide a safe haven across our five refuges in Luton, operate a helpline, and offer bespoke assistance for families. Our services include access to legal advice, mental health support, employment assistance, and resettlement aid.

One of our refuges is dedicated to women from South Asian communities, with staff who speak Punjabi, Bengali, and Urdu. We also have a refuge for single women with complex support needs, such as mental health issues and drug and alcohol dependencies, often stemming from the trauma of domestic violence and abuse.

DCD are seeking new (volunteer) grant assessors for DCD’s Grants Committee. The Grants Committee is authorised by our Board of Trustees to award retraining and entrepreneur grants to current and former dancers, via its application process. Awarding grants is the bedrock of DCD’s work, financially enabling dancers to realise their career aspirations and fulfil their potential.

Enter and view representatives are trained to visit health and care services, to see how services are running in action. They speak with service users and their families, and staff to find out what people think of services. 

As this role involves the provision of health services, all volunteers will have to have a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.

‍Key tasks might include: 

• Preparing for visits to health and social care services by reading background information
• Taking part in visits looking at how the service is provided and talking to staff, relatives and service users about the service
• Working with the team to produce a written report on what was valued at the visit, and where improvements could be made

We are looking for volunteers for our Independent Visitors Project in Stockport!

About the Role

Independent Visitors are volunteers who befriend and spend time with a child or young person within Local Authority care. Our volunteers enjoy the challenge of building a lasting friendship and the children benefit greatly from a consistent, fun relationship with someone outside the care system.

This is a long-term, one to one commitment. Full training and on-going support will be given, and out of pocket expenses paid for mileage and activities.

Every day we make a positive difference in the lives of children and young people in and on the edge of care across the UK. Our advocacy teams are based Nationwide and are made of up of experienced community advocates who work alongside our specialist advocates (who focus on direct work, supporting and developing good practice with young people who are homeless, 16+, or have a disability).
