 Children and young people in care deserve to have a trusted adult who can share their time, engage in activities, and provide a safe and fun friendship. Your visits can easily fit into your schedule, allowing you to balance your commitments while being a positive force in someone’s life.

We ask for a commitment of just a few hours once a month for a minimum of two years. We cover activity and travel expenses.

As a Governance Officer, you will work closely with the Governance Lead to ensure strong governance practices across Roots Academy. Your role will focus on supporting governance frameworks, policies, and compliance measures to align with charity governance requirements and relevant regulations. You will also play a key role in embedding a culture of governance across the organisation.

Key tasks

Trustee Support

• Assist trustees with governance-related tasks and ensure they have access to relevant policies, guidelines, and resources.
• Direct trustees to appropriate regulatory frameworks, best practices, and governance training materials.

Governance & Compliance Support

• Support the onboarding process for new trustees, ensuring all necessary documentation is collected and securely stored.
• Assist in coordinating trustee meetings, including preparation of agendas, accurate minute-taking, and document distribution.
• Maintain key governance registers, such as the register of interests, policy register, and risk register, ensuring timely updates and compliance.

Policy & Risk Management

• Support the Governance Lead in developing and reviewing governance policies, including Conflict of Interest, Risk Management, and Whistleblowing Policies.
• Assist team leads in ensuring policies are implemented effectively and aligned with best practices.
• Help monitor compliance with Charity Commission regulations and the Fundraising Code of Conduct.

Embedding a Governance Culture

• Assist in raising awareness of governance principles across the organisation.
• Support the Governance Lead in organising training sessions or briefings on governance best practices.
• Help integrate governance principles into the organisation’s operations and decision-making processes.

Role Summary.

As a QA Reviewer at Roots Academy, you'll work closely with Regional Leads and the QA team to help maintain and raise the quality of teaching across our programmes. Your role is to support our instructors by regularly observing lessons, offering constructive feedback, and encouraging their continued growth and development.

Your input will help ensure that students benefit from lessons that are clear, engaging, and rooted in sound educational practice.

Key tasks

· Observe lessons via site visits or submitted video recordings throughout the semester.

· Use standardised forms to assess lesson quality and highlight key strengths and areas that could be improved.

· Offer honest and practical feedback, using real examples to guide instructors toward better practice.

· Work alongside Regional Leads to deliver feedback at set points in the semester and support instructor development conversations.

· Attend feedback meetings and take notes to track progress and follow-up actions.

· Recommend helpful activities for instructors, such as shadowing experienced colleagues, team teaching, or reviewing their own lessons.

· Keep track of instructors needing additional support by scheduling follow-up visits or reviewing new lesson recordings.

· Make sure feedback is received, understood, and followed up with clear next steps.

· Raise any serious concerns or ongoing issues with the Regional Lead or relevant team members.

The trustee will support the board, the CEO and wider senior team with advice, guidance and sharing their experiences specifically related to:

We are looking to recruit an Activities Organiser for the West Hertfordshire Group. As our local group Activities Organiser you’ll play a crucial role in developing and planning activities and events with your local group. You’ll be responsible for creating and coordinating an annual calendar of events and making sure they’re run safely and effectively to make the most impact. You’ll take a lead role at events on the day and inspire your fellow volunteers to get involved.

In this role you’ll be able to develop your organisation, communication, administration and negotiation skills.

We are seeking a proactive and experienced Project Manager to establish two in-person peer support networks for individuals with Long Covid in underserved communities in England and Wales. This is a dynamic and collaborative role, ideal for someone with strong project management skills and a passion for community-based health support.

1. Research and Scoping

• Identify and scope two target areas with high prevalence and need for Long Covid support.
• Collaborate with the Peer Support Lead, local contacts, and established community groups.

2. Assessment of Resources and Gaps

• Set up two local peer support groups using identified community spaces.

Person Specification

Essential:

• Demonstrated experience managing short to medium-term projects.
• Background in peer support or community health initiatives.
• Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
• Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively.
• Familiarity with evaluation tools and reporting processes.

Desirable:

• Knowledge of Long Covid or experience working in long-term health conditions.
• Existing network or experience working in England/Wales health or community sectors.
