Our client is one of the UK’s most inspiring environmental initiatives—restoring and connecting woodland, championing sustainability, and improving lives across 200 square miles in the Midlands and beyond. With 9.5 million trees already planted and national recognition as a pioneering regeneration model, the Forest is growing fast—in scope, scale and influence.
We are now looking for 2 new Trustees with expertise in forestry, land management, farming or nature conservation to help guide the charity’s work at a critical time for both the charity and wider national land-use policy.

The commitment
- Approx. 1 day/month, including 5 Board meetings (4 in person) and 4 Land & Forestry Working Group meetings annually (in person / virtual). Trustees are not expected to live locally, provided they can attend in-person meetings.
- A 3-year term, renewable for a further 3 years.

Kidderminster Foodbank currently has three part-time employees. It is in an exciting developmental period, moving to opening a town-centre wellbeing hub, so we anticipate taking on other staff.
This role involves leading on HR within the organisation. This entails advising the trustee board and ensuring we adhere to the highest standards of governance in policies and practice related to employee relations, recruitment, retention, reward, and recognition, as well as staff and trustee development. Our HR trustee will assess risks and measure the impact of HR interventions, will advise the board as we implement organisational policies and practices in the context of furthering charitable objectives and as we evaluate their impact on staff and beneficiaries.
The HR trustee also needs to ensure the long-term strategic oversight of the organisation’s personnel and staffing requirements in relation to the overarching goals of the charity.
What will you be doing?
Key tasks:
- To ensure that HR activities and interventions are linked to the organisation’s charitable objectives and complement the organisational culture
- To review and recommend to the Trustee Board current and future strategic resourcing, training and development and plans.
- To actively contribute to policy-setting and strategic direction.
Other responsibilities, along with the Board of Trustees, include:
- To manage the charity’s resources responsibly, including ensuring the charity’s assets are used only to carry out its purpose, avoid undue risk and not over-commit the charity.
- To ensure the board regularly reviews its structures, roles, relationship to staff and implementing changes if and when necessary.
- To help develop a long-term strategy for the foodbank with clear objectives which can be monitored and adapted.
- To work alongside the Treasurer and the board to ensure the organisation’s financial dealings are systematically accounted for and on time, independently examined (on income over £25k) and made publicly available when necessary.
- To ensure the charity is accountable, actively complying with statutory accounting and reporting requirements and the law.
- To ensure appropriate financial plans are in place for future budget allocations as well as looking after contractual agreements with external partners that award money for core costs and additional projects.
- To help promote the organisation to a wide audience of potential funders and beneficiaries and community stakeholders.
- To ensure the foodbank has appropriate procedures to: comply with current legislation and good practice; including employment, health and safety, equal opportunities, safeguarding & GDPR compliance/data protection etc.
- To act with reasonable care and skill, giving your time, thought and energy to your role.
- To prepare for and regularly attend and participate in board and subcommittee meetings and any trustee away days.
- To provide ad hoc support to the staff team and volunteers from time to time.
- To act at all times in accordance with the foodbank’s trustee code of conduct.
The Trustees may also undertake additional work for the charity between meetings subject to their availability and skill set.

SHELTERBOX IS LOOKING TO RECRUIT 2 NEW TRUSTEES TO JOIN OUR BOARD.
Position Type: Voluntary - The position of Trustee is unpaid
However, all reasonable out-of-pocket expenses incurred on charity business will be reimbursed in line with our Expenses Policy.
Time Commitment: Around 12 - 15 days per year
The Board meets four times year. Two of these meetings are in London or Truro (Cornwall) and two of the meetings are online. Trustees are also encouraged to be a member of one of three committees which meet quarterly for two hours online via Microsoft Teams. There is also an annual two-day Board retreat, which is held in person and is combined with a Board meeting.
Attendance: In person and online
Trustees may also be invited to attend occasional fundraising or networking events.
Term of Appointment: Trustees are appointed for a three-year term, which may be renewed at the end of the term. Trustees cannot serve more than three terms (nine years).

To act in the best interests of ShelterBox as a whole and to put the interests of ShelterBox before those of any other organisation or person.

As a Trustee:

Role Summary.
As a QA Reviewer at Roots Academy, you'll work closely with Regional Leads and the QA team to help maintain and raise the quality of teaching across our programmes. Your role is to support our instructors by regularly observing lessons, offering constructive feedback, and encouraging their continued growth and development.
Your input will help ensure that students benefit from lessons that are clear, engaging, and rooted in sound educational practice.
Key tasks
· Observe lessons via site visits or submitted video recordings throughout the semester.
· Use standardised forms to assess lesson quality and highlight key strengths and areas that could be improved.
· Offer honest and practical feedback, using real examples to guide instructors toward better practice.
· Work alongside Regional Leads to deliver feedback at set points in the semester and support instructor development conversations.
· Attend feedback meetings and take notes to track progress and follow-up actions.
· Recommend helpful activities for instructors, such as shadowing experienced colleagues, team teaching, or reviewing their own lessons.
· Keep track of instructors needing additional support by scheduling follow-up visits or reviewing new lesson recordings.
· Make sure feedback is received, understood, and followed up with clear next steps.
· Raise any serious concerns or ongoing issues with the Regional Lead or relevant team members.
