About us

We are a small charity based in Whitby with big ambitions! We run a lobster hatchery based in the old fish market on the main pier in Whitby.

The core purposes of the charity are

To protect and enhance marine biodiversity within the North Sea. By doing this, we will support sustainable fishing within the North Sea and promote marine conservation through research, education and conservation work.

Charitable Objects

· To help balance the marine life of the North Sea through research, education, and conservation work.

· To help protect the marine and fisheries heritage of Whitby through sustainable fishing practices.

This will be achieved through:

· Monitoring and managing marine life across the North Sea, intervening with management programmes where required.

· Using research to deliver and influence policy.

What will you be doing?

We need business professionals with expertise in the following areas who can help us achieve some of our aims:

· HR: we have 3 employees and about 12 volunteers. 

· Treasurer

· Raising funds, including grant applications: we usually run 3 or 4 fundraising events each year, and need to get about £50,000 a year from grants. Most of our grants come from small applications, so we need to maximise the number of applications to make the charity more sustainable.

· As well as contributing your business experience, you will share in the collective governance duties of trustees.

We also need trustees who bring other skills to board such as:

· Financial management

· Fundraising events

· Fundraising bid writing/ research

· Governance

· Strategic development and planning

Yorkshire Wolds Music Foundation is a charity that presents various music and arts projects in East Riding of Yorkshire.

Role Summary.

We are seeking a motivated and experienced Podcast Producer to support the planning and delivery of the Firmly Rooted Podcast. You will be responsible for planning and booking studio recording sessions, managing post production editing, and working closely with the host and other team members to make this the no #1 podcast for Muslim university students. 

Key tasks

• Brainstorming, contacting and liaising with guests to appear on the podcast

• Booking and preparing the recording studio for filming sessions

• Recording the podcast in the studio alongside the guest and host

• Cooperating with the host to plan the structure and topics covered in each episode

• Coordinating research and brainstorming sessions to identify potential guests and topics

• Collaborating with data analyst and design team to test and produce attention-grabbing thumbnails and titles

• Uploading the podcast to our video and audio platforms

Role Description
This is a volunteer placement opportunity involving hybrid training in the UK and then 10 weeks in Western Kenya over the summer of 2026. What you'll do
Project Associates are not teachers or builders. Working with an EPAfrica partner school in teams of two or three, Project Associates will have autonomy to collaborate with key stakeholders to tailor, facilitate and project manage EPAfrica's investments. Project Associates will be responsible for ensuring investments suit individual school needs and yield sustainable results beyond the duration of our direct collaboration.
Programmes begin with Project Associates engaging all school stakeholders to identify the best available options for long-term improvement of students’ career opportunities, welfare and health.
Project Associates then co-ordinate the delivery of identified opportunities, in continued partnership with school management. Investments come in the form of cash in educational resources and time in development of initiatives.

With comprehensive support and training; you'll fundraise £900 (all of which goes towards your investments in the school you work with) plus ~£1,600 for essential personal expenses (flights, in-country expenses, health insurance etc.).

East London Waterworks Park is looking for volunteers to lead social media and content creation for communications and campaigning for our community-owned park.

East London Waterworks Park is a volunteer-led charity that has won a 2024 New London Architecture award and raised £2m towards buying land from the Department for Education to transform the 14-acre Thames Water Depot on Lea Bridge Road on the border of Waltham Forest and Hackney, into a new biodiverse park with natural swimming ponds, forest schools and community spaces. 

We are looking for social media and content creator leads to participate in our community-led working group who are promoting public awareness and support of the project. 

There is opportunity to lead on projects across communications, content creation, social media, PR, newsletters, film, podcasts or any other channels of interest, and facilitate the direction of the working group.

The Comms Circle currently meets every 4 weeks on a Tuesday evening on Google Meet and spends voluntary time outside of the meeting completing agreed tasks remotely.

As a QA Reviewer at Roots Academy, you'll work closely with Regional Leads and the QA team to help maintain and raise the quality of teaching across our programmes. Your role is to support our instructors by regularly observing lessons, offering constructive feedback, and encouraging their continued growth and development.

Your input will help ensure that students benefit from lessons that are clear, engaging, and rooted in sound educational practice.

Key tasks

· Observe lessons via site visits or submitted video recordings throughout the semester.

· Use standardised forms to assess lesson quality and highlight key strengths and areas that could be improved.

· Offer honest and practical feedback, using real examples to guide instructors toward better practice.

· Work alongside Regional Leads to deliver feedback at set points in the semester and support instructor development conversations.

· Attend feedback meetings and take notes to track progress and follow-up actions.

· Recommend helpful activities for instructors, such as shadowing experienced colleagues, team teaching, or reviewing their own lessons.

· Keep track of instructors needing additional support by scheduling follow-up visits or reviewing new lesson recordings.

· Make sure feedback is received, understood, and followed up with clear next steps.

· Raise any serious concerns or ongoing issues with the Regional Lead or relevant team members.

Youth Advantage UK (YAUK) is seeking a Volunteer Senior FOI Researcher. The successful candidates will be allocated to lead our FOI Team which supports our research projects nationally and locally by submitting and progressing Freedom of Information Requests. They should have excellent writing and speaking skills, IT literacy, and the ability to work well independently and in a team.

Responsibilities:

• Lead and oversee a small team in drafting, submitting and following up FOI requests in addition to supporting the research projects that require such data.

• Ensuring of ethical compliance and high ethical standards

• Coordinating the needs of various research teams with regards to FOI requests as support is required

• Drafting FOI requests: Write precise, legally compliant requests that maximize the chance of disclosure.

• Tracking submissions: Maintain a log of requests, deadlines, and responses to ensure timely follow-up.

• Analyzing responses: Review disclosed information, assess its reliability, and extract insights relevant to the research project.

• Appeals and reviews: Prepare internal review requests or appeals to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) if disclosure is refused.

• Collaboration: Work with other teams to align FOI requests with broader research goals.

• Reporting findings: Summarize obtained information and provide the data for progress by specific research teams

Homeless Health Peer Advocate - Salford

Aim of the role

As a Homeless Health Peer Advocate, you will form part of our team helping those experiencing homelessness to achieve better health outcomes.

Homeless Health Peer Advocacy is a pioneering model of advocacy style support. It aims to work towards an inclusive health system where everyone has access to the healthcare they need; ultimately moving people out of homelessness. We want to make it easy for people to access healthcare and improve their health. We know that Homeless Health Peer Advocacy creates a foundation for moving out of homelessness.

Main Tasks

This is a varied role, and you could do some or all the following activities:

• Arranging and committing to regular time each week to support clients to get help with their health needs.

• Updating your supervisor about calls to people experiencing homelessness and reporting any information/advice/guidance that has been requested
• Reporting any concerns about safety
• Providing feedback to help improve and develop the service
• Sometimes you may meet a client for a one-off appointment, or you might be working with a client over several weeks or months, depending upon their health needs.

• People with lived experience of homelessness or risk of homelessness (all forms e.g., rough sleeping, sofa surfing, hidden homelessness)

Read Easy Sheffield is a successful local charity that provides free, confidential, one to-one reading coaching for adults who struggle with reading, affiliated to national charity Read Easy UK. We are currently looking to expand our work and for this we need some more volunteers to join our friendly team, and we excited to be seeking another Coordinator.

This voluntary position would be fantastic for someone who has good organisational and problem-solving skills, as well as great people skills and a friendly, caring nature. If you are the type of person who enjoys solving puzzles and helping others, this could be the perfect role for you!

Being a Coordinator is a vital and interesting role within the Read Easy Sheffield Team. Alongside the other Coordinators (currently three), you will meet adults who want to learn to read and interview volunteer Reading Coaches. You will then pair them up and offer support when needed (alongside our Literacy Specialist), checking in with both your Readers and your Coaches that all is going well. You will play an instrumental part in making sure our group continues to thrive!

You don’t need previous experience, and you don’t need to have volunteered as a Reading Coach first – you will receive training and support from Read Easy UK to develop your skills, and you will work alongside an enthusiastic and supportive team who will show you the ropes.

The role is flexible and can be mostly done from home, however you will need to make occasional visits to see reading pairs in person in their venues across the city, and come to in person meetings.

You can choose your own hours and how many reading pairs you’d like to support – you might expect to spend 3 to 5 hours a week on this. However, most of the coaching happens during the daytime so you will need some daytime availability. To get the most from the role, we expect all Coordinators to support Read Easy Sheffield for at least one year.
