What Does a Marshal Do? 

• Help guide and direct runners along the course, ensuring they stay on track and keep moving towards the finish line. 

• Bring the energy and excitement—your cheers and encouragement will keep runners motivated every step of the way! 

• Ensure the safety of both runners and spectators by assisting with crowd management and traffic control. 

Due to the nature of the role Marshals must be aged 18 years old and over. If you are under the age of 18, you must be accompanied by an adult. 

How Much Time Do You Need to Commit? 

Your commitment to volunteering will only be one day – the Event Day. Start and Finish timings and the length of your shift will vary depending on the role you are doing. On average shifts are around a maximum of 7-8 hours. 

Please note we will not know the exact shift timings until nearer the event date and so more accurate information will be briefed to you by the event volunteer team in the run up to the event. 

What Support Will You Be Given? 

A member of the Candlelighters team will be in touch before the event to send you a briefing about your role. You will also be allocated a team leader, who will brief, guide, support and work closely with you on the day at the event. 

About Candlelighters 

Each year, over 150 children in Yorkshire are diagnosed with cancer. When a child is diagnosed, lives are turned upside down instantly: not just for the child but the entire family. Supporting children and families throughout that journey is why our charity was formed over 40 years ago. Our mission is to bring light to every family affected by childhood cancer across Yorkshire by providing emotional, practical and financial support, as well as bringing hope, by investing in vital research to improve the outcomes and lives of children with cancer.

Across the UK, our 270 local groups play a vital part in supporting people affected by MS. They provide sense of belonging, unity and friendship. And they deliver services and support for their local MS community.

We are looking to recruit a Support Volunteer for the Swansea Group. As our local group Support Volunteer you’ll help people affected by MS find information about local and national services. That could be helping someone access local information about the care or benefits they need or giving them a hand with a grant application. See a video about one of our Support Volunteers here.

In this role you’ll be able to develop your listening and communication skills, as well as your knowledge of local services. Most importantly you’ll help people affected by MS to access the help they need.

Time commitment

We estimate this role will need around 2 hours a week. Our roles are flexible and aim to fit around you. Time commitments for this role may vary depending on your activities. This is an ongoing role.

This is a great opportunity to gain experience within a large charity and develop your existing skills and learn new ones. We need you to get involved and help make positive changes to the lives of people affected by MS.

Branch Trustee (General Role) RSPCA Chiltern Branch

This is an exciting opportunity to be a hands-on trustee at branch level, helping to promote kindness and prevent animal cruelty, reach out to more supporters, and influence how we do things. With your support and expertise, we will achieve so much!

We are looking for an enthusiastic and passionate person who could devote the time to volunteer with us as one of our Trustees. As a Trustee of the Branch, you will have the chance to influence how we care for and prevent cruelty to animals and drive the implementation of key initiatives. You will serve on the governing body of the charity and be instrumental in the running of the Branch and setting out both the short and long terms aims.

As a minimum, trustees would normally be expected to attend a monthly committee meeting lasting some 2 to 3 hours. However, the commitment may vary depending on whether the trustee takes on additional duties.

About our Branch

The RSPCA Chiltern Branch focuses on rescuing and fostering animals, primarily cats, and offering financial support to pet owners needing help with vet bills. Our dedicated team includes 6 volunteer trustees, 1 animal coordinator, and a full-time shop manager, and we run a successful charity shop in Buckingham.

We are seeking to recruit new trustees, including a Treasurer, Secretary, General Trustee, and Animal Fosterer. We welcome proactive individuals aged 18 to 99 from all social and cultural backgrounds who have common sense, a love for animals, and a willingness to contribute.

Most of our work is done remotely via calls and Google Meetings (monthly or bi-monthly), so you do not need to live in Buckinghamshire or Hertfordshire. However, if you are local, you may enjoy assisting with shop donations or meeting for a coffee. Our branch is a unique, friendly, and supportive environment, offering opportunities for self-learning through the RSPCA website and a variety of unusual and rewarding tasks.

Primary responsibilities of the Branch Trustee

•  Appreciate and support the aims and policies of the RSPCA.
•  Work in conjunction with fellow trustees and branch officers and jointly act in making decisions for the best interest of the branch and the RSPCA.
•  Work with national RSPCA staff to ensure that the branch meets all minimum animal welfare standards (MAWS).
•  In conjunction with your fellow trustees and Branch Support Specialist write, adopt, monitor, and review a development plan setting out the short and long term aims of your branch.
• Actively participate in branch committee meetings and to attend the branch annual general meeting and regional conference.
•  Be aware of the outcome of regional board meetings and support local initiatives.
•  Actively promote and advertise the society in an ongoing programme to recruit new branch trustees and volunteers and welcome new members.
•  In conjunction with your fellow trustees, ensure the proper management and control of all activities and decisions relating to any premises held or staff employed by the branch if applicable.

What we are looking for in a volunteer:

•  We are looking for people from all social and cultural backgrounds, with experience and skills in any of the following areas:
•  Marketing communication including social media, PR, website;
•  Fundraising including corporate fundraising, trust fund and grant applications;
•   Local community and supporter relationships;
•  Hands-on experience in growing charities; and/or
•   Are or have been part of the groups and communities we would like to attract.

Role Overview

As a Pre-Production Assistant, you will support the Video Production Manager and team in all stages of video production, focusing primarily on the pre-production phase. Your role will be crucial in ensuring that our video projects are well-planned and executed smoothly. You will be involved in tasks ranging from script writing to stage setting, ensuring that all necessary preparations are in place for successful video production.

Main Responsibilities

• Collaborate with the Video Production Manager to develop and refine scripts for various video projects, conducting research to gather relevant information and insights to inform script content.

• Assist in planning and setting up stages for video shoots, including arranging props, lighting, and other necessary equipment, and coordinate with the production team to ensure all stage elements are in place.

• Work with the Video Production Manager to create detailed production schedules and timelines, and coordinate with cast, crew, and other stakeholders to ensure everyone is informed of shoot dates and times.

• Assist in identifying and securing suitable locations for video shoots, conducting site visits to assess the suitability of locations and addressing any logistical considerations.

• Organize and manage all pre-production materials and resources, including scripts, shot lists, and production notes, ensuring all necessary permits and permissions are obtained for filming locations.

• Act as a point of contact between the pre-production team and other departments, ensuring smooth communication and collaboration, and provide regular updates to the Video Production Manager on the progress of pre-production tasks.

Trustee Role (Branch Secretary) RSPCA Chiltern Branch

About our Branch

At RSPCA Chiltern Branch, our primary mission is to rescue and foster animals—predominantly cats—and provide financial support to pet owners in need of veterinary care. We are supported by a dedicated team of six volunteer trustees, an animal coordinator, and a full-time shop manager. Our successful charity shop in Buckingham helps funds our vital work.

We are seeking to recruit the next generation of trustees, including someone to take on the important role of Branch Secretary. We welcome applications from people of all social and cultural backgrounds, aged 18 to 99. Our trustees play a key role in shaping our work and are passionate about improving animal welfare.

While we cover a wide area across Buckinghamshire and Hertfordshire, trustees do not need to live locally, as most of our work is conducted remotely through calls and regular Google Meetings. About a Branch Secretary

As a Branch Secretary, you would be in an essential volunteer role as the principal communications trustee managing and maintaining the administrative affairs of our branch. Using your expertise and skills, you will be able to influence how we care for and prevent cruelty to animals and drive the implementation of key initiatives.

As a minimum, trustees would normally be expected to attend a monthly committee meeting lasting some 2 to 3 hours. However, the commitment may vary depending on whether or not the trustee takes on additional duties.

Primary responsibilities of the Branch Secretary

• To act as the primary contact point for all branch communications with the national Society, the branch committee and the branch membership.
• Arrange branch meetings, ensure accurate minutes are taken and distributed in accordance with branch rules.
• Ensure all branch committee decisions are implemented and actions completed.
• Arrange the branch AGM including the compilation and distribution of the annual report, nominations and agenda in line with the strict timetable laid down in the branch rules.
• Arrange the timely dissemination of the contents of all correspondence and literature received by the branch, ensuring availability to all committee members, and reply to all branch correspondence where necessary.
• Order and distribute RSPCA stationery, leaflets, posters and other fundraising and promotional material.
• Liaise with the Branch support specialist (BSS) and group chief inspector and notify them of all branch meetings.
• Advise the BSS of all changes to branch facilities, services and contact details.
• In the absence of the membership secretary, assume responsibility for the maintenance of the branch membership list.
• Submit recommendations for national Society awards to the BSS, in accordance with the wishes of the committee.

What we are looking for in a volunteer

Above all, we are looking for someone who is committed to the RSPCA’s charitable objectives and shares our passion for animal welfare. 

Specific skills such as finance, fundraising, project management, business experience, awareness of employment and/or charity legislation can be useful, but not essential.

You will need to be able to work with people and have good interpersonal skills. You do not need to be an expert, although commitment, common sense, and the ability to be objective are vital.

You will work closely with the Video Production Manager and team to edit, refine, and finalize videos for various platforms. This role requires a keen eye for detail, creativity, and a strong understanding of video editing tools and techniques.

Main Responsibilities

• Edit raw footage into cohesive and engaging video content, incorporating music, graphics, and visual effects to enhance storytelling.
• Collaborate with the Video Production Manager and creative team to align the final edits with the organization’s vision, values, and target audience.
• Conduct quality checks on video content, ensuring technical accuracy, proper formatting, and adherence to brand guidelines.
• Manage color correction, sound editing, and visual effects to ensure a professional finish.
• Work with the Video Editor to organize and maintain a clear post-production workflow, including file management, version control, and backups.
• Oversee the creation and integration of subtitles, captions, and translations for accessibility and multilingual audiences.
• Troubleshoot technical issues related to video editing software and export settings.
• Optimize videos for various platforms, including social media, websites, and presentations, ensuring proper formatting and resolution.
• Maintain and archive finalized video projects in an organized and accessible system.
• Provide input on improving the post-production process, tools, and resources to enhance efficiency and output quality.
• Stay updated on video editing trends, tools, and best practices to bring fresh and innovative ideas to projects.

Essential

Medsbag AB

We create products that help communicate emergency action plans to third parties.

Nowadays, children who are diagnosed with a chronic condition will receive an A4-paper explaining how to help the child in an emergency. We as a family have found this not to work perfectly in an emergency. Families are afraid to leave their children to others which results in anxiety and depression for the parents and limits the mobility for children.

Therefore, we have decided to digitise the medical action plan into an app where parents will easily be able to share their children's important information to teachers, soccer coaches and others who could need to use the information.

Research

Volunteer Role Description (remote, unpaid)

We're looking for a detail-oriented individual to help us identify and map out patient organizations and influencers within the field of chronic conditions — such as allergies, diabetes, epilepsy, and others. This research will help us build partnerships and outreach opportunities for Medsbag, our tool that supports families managing medical needs in everyday life.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Researching relevant organizations, support groups, and nonprofits in the health space
• Identifying social media influencers and content creators who focus on chronic illnesses
• Collecting and organizing contact details, social media handles, and public engagement data

You don’t need prior experience in healthcare — just strong research skills, reliability, and a passion for social impact.

The difference you will make to cats and people

Our social media volunteers use their passion and knowledge of social media to promote the activities of local volunteer teams though various channels. They directly help cats by raising awareness of Cats Protection. A higher profile can help us raise the funds we need for our work, ensure people know they can adopt a cat from us, help promote neutering and help as many people as possible learn more about feline welfare.

The George Street shop is our retail hub as it is also home to our E-Commerce operation. We are seeking more volunteers to join our bustling George Street team on Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturday afternoons and would love to hear from people who are happy to be serve customers on the till.

Role Profile

Our shop volunteers play an integral role in the day-to-day running of our charity shops and the maximising of sales to support Bath Cats & Dogs Home. Whether you prefer working behind the scenes or on the shop floor in a customer facing role there are plenty of tasks to get involved with.

Your activities could include:

• Assisting and serving customers on the till
• Providing excellent customer service on the shop floor
• Creating attractive displays and assisting with the visual merchandising of the shop
• Receiving donations from the public and promoting our Gift Aid scheme
• Assisting with the processing of donated stock, including sorting, steaming and hanging of items
• Other daily tasks including cleaning, tidying, dusting and hoovering 

About You 

You will be a motivated and enthusiastic individual with a love for animals. Good communication and customer care skills are key to a successful charity shop so the ability to work as part of a team and with the general public is desirable. There is a manual handling element to the role so this should be considered on application. The hours are flexible although we ask for a regular commitment of a few hours each week.

Full in person training will be provided for donation sorting and retail guidelines, as well as our waste management and recycling processes.

Location: Remote (with occasional in-person meetings, if possible)
Time Commitment: Flexible hours + weekly team meeting (Tuesdays at 7:30 PM)

Are you an organised, proactive individual passionate about supporting meaningful community work? We're looking for a Volunteer Project Manager to lead our Jumping Beans Team—a child-focused initiative supporting local families through engaging programmes and activities.

What You’ll Do:

• Lead and manage the Jumping Beans Team to deliver projects on time and effectively

• Coordinate and chair weekly Tuesday evening team meetings

• Track team tasks, monitor project progress, and ensure timelines are met

• Regularly report progress to the leadership team

• Collaborate across departments to align goals and resources

• Occasionally attend in-person meetings (if possible)

Qualifications & Experience:

• Previous project management or team leadership experience (paid or voluntary)

• Strong organisational and time-management skills

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

• Creative thinking and problem-solving abilities

• Experience working with or supporting children or families is a plus

Our amazing team of volunteers help us run over 100 shops across England and Wales.  Every donated item that you sort, prepare and sell helps to raise vital funds to support us in our mission to make sure no one, no matter how complex their disabilities, is isolated, left out, or unable to fulfil their potential. Our shops are at the heart of local communities – sharing the work of Sense, and helping to secure support for our life changing work.

What your role will involve

There are a variety of tasks that you can get involved with in the shop, including:

• Provide a warm, friendly welcome to customers.
• Provide great customer service and a fantastic shopping experience.
• Receiving donated goods from members of the public.
• Processing sales and serving on the till.
• Promoting Gift Aid and other Sense fundraising initiatives.
• Acting as an ambassador for Sense; promoting the shop and Sense in your local community.
• Supporting with the recruitment and training of new volunteers.
• Following health and safety measures to ensure the safety of everyone.
