Once we have completed your selection and screening for this role, we will provide you with an induction, as well as invite you to any necessary training sessions. We are recruiting Community Volunteers in each of our three Networks; Hull, East Riding and South Humber.

Volunteer your way, become a Community Volunteer for St John Ambulance in Humber and East Riding. You can give as little 24 hours a year or as much time as you like. It’s perfect for busy lives, changing schedules, or anyone wanting low-commitment involvement.

 We are looking to run a volunteering selection session on: Thursday 4th September 6.00-9.00pm Saturday 6th September 10.00-12.30pm and 1.30-4.00pm If you are unable to make either of these three sessions, alternative dates can be arranged.

If you are successful you will need to undertake induction & training for role at these dates: Welcome Event (Induction) -Thursday 4th September 6.00-9.00pm, Saturday 6th September 10.00-12.30pm and 1.30-4.00pm

Our retail stores are the face of our charity on the high-street and in local communities. We have loads of amazing stock donated to us every week, and this all needs to be sorted, tagged and put on the shop-floor for sale!

Making sure our shops look fantastic is another task you can get involved with. You may also be required to help out on the till too, but we will show you how that works during your time volunteering with us. We value the contribution of everyone who supports Barnardo’s.

Family Friends carefully recruit, train, and match volunteers with families in Central-West London. Our volunteer befrienders offer practical and emotional support based on each family's unique needs and potential. We offer two volunteer opportunities - Big Buddies and Parent Buddies.

Volunteers will aim to help parents to discover their strengths, build confidence, and resolve difficulties. Volunteers meet with their match weekly for a period of 6 -12 months.

Activities might include:

• Supporting a parent to take their children on days out.
• Helping to strengthen family relationships.
• Providing a listening ear.
• Helping parents to build confidence in themselves.

Essential Criteria:

• You must be able to commit to the Parent Buddy programme for a minimum of 6 months.

We welcome applications from people with a wide range of skills and experiences. You don’t need to have volunteered or worked before as full training will be provided. Support Group Volunteer

Age Requirements: From 18 years old plus

Role Summary: To support patients who access the wellbeing centre group/programme. To ensure that patients have a positive outcome when using the service. To support the wellbeing coordinator within the group/programme.

Key Responsibilities

• Support patients who attend the Wellbeing centre sessions. 
• Meet and greet the patients in reception and welcome them into the hospice.
• Welcome them into the Wellbeing centre, offer and provide any refreshments.
• Engage with patients to provide therapeutic care and interaction.
• Offer companionship that will provide comfort if appropriate.
• Report any changes to Wellbeing centre staff.
• Chat about the patient’s history and interests, reminisce using; memory boxes, photographs and music etc.
• Accompany patients with staff permission (within and outside the wellbeing centre environment) to allow them the freedom to walk around thereby reducing restrictions that may lead to escalation of behaviours.
• Engage in general conversation and actively listen to patients.
• To assist Wellbeing staff to facilitate and deliver group sessions, supporting patients to participate as appropriate.
• To act as an ambassador for the palliative care team and promote the hospice service.
• Adhere to all Hospice Policy and Procedures.

Communications:

The wellbeing coordinator will regularly provide you with any information updates, training opportunities and upcoming events appropriate to your role.

This is a great opportunity to gain experience within a large charity and develop your existing skills and learn new ones. We need you to get involved and help make positive changes to the lives of people affected by MS.

About you

You’ll have an interest in the MS Society and the work that we do, as well as the enthusiasm to represent both us and our values locally. You will understand the needs of people affected by MS in your area and be sympathetic to the needs and motivations of volunteers. You’ll be confident using Microsoft Office, the internet and email. You’ll be able to apply disability, equality and inclusion practices and understand and apply our risk management system. Ideally you’ll understand the local area and organisations that provide local services.

You will be reliable and easy to contact and you need to live in or near the area the group to carry out this role.
