The Chair of our Trust Board of Directors helps shape and guide our passionate volunteers and staff team through clear leadership to the trust’s Board of Directors, embedding the trust's values and culture throughout the organisation.
In addition to the general role of all Non-Executive Directors/Trustees, the role of the Chair is:
1. Strategic leadership: To ensure the board and the CEO have an effective shared purpose, vision, values and strategic priorities.
2. Leading the governance team: To ensure the board has the right people with the right skills, attributes, motivations and behaviours to work effectively as a team and hold annual 1:1 conversations with non-executive directors and Local Governing Committee Chairs.
3. Working with leaders: To ensure professional relationships with the CEO and the Chairs of the schools’ Local Governing Committees. To lead the Chairs and Vice Chairs Forum.
4. Influencing improvement and outcomes: To ensure the Board is focused on the trust’s strategic priorities and the ongoing improvement of all of its schools and outcomes for pupils.
5. Leading governance business: To work with the CEO and the Clerk to the Directors to ensure the business of the Board and its Committees is planned, managed and actioned effectively.
6. To review the trust’s management accounts on a monthly basis, taking any appropriate action to maintain financial viability.

Background Information
This kindergarten is part of a Community Center that helps the population of the area with various activities such as a kindergarten, a playground for the younger kids, afterschool support workshops, a vegetable garden to be tended by the children when they are old enough, and the soup kitchen that cooks for the kindergarten and the people from the neighborhood. Thus, this organization is based on working with families and children from first to seventh grade, supporting them in their growing and development process, with a team of professionals and social workers. The Community Center was founded in 1994 as a soup kitchen, and the kindergarten was started by the mothers from the area a few years later.
Why is this project important for the community?
The main goal of this Center is to offer the children's families a place of education and integral support, where they can find social and psychological benefits. It ultimately represents a way to compensate for the schools' weaknesses and the lack of investment from the Government to improve them. Those who belong to the organization understand that the work with children is not efficient if it doesn't start from the beginning, with the youngest children, and this is the kindergarten's task. It is also a place where the unemployed women from the area can have training sessions that take place periodically with professionals.
Role of the Volunteer
From 8:00 am to 3:30 pm, the kindergarten welcomes and educates the children from the area. The volunteer can do a multitude of things such as assist the teachers with organizing activities, play with the children, help to feed them during lunch time, help in the cleaning process and much more! The Kindergarten is a place of exchange between teachers, social workers, parents and volunteers from the area, as well as from Voluntario Global. They all work together for the safe upbringing of the children and this gives the international volunteers a unique opportunity for learning about this perspective and exchanging valuable experiences.
What can you learn as a volunteer?
The help of the volunteer is invaluable for the teachers and for the population of the area because it represents both a practical support and cultural exchange. In this area where a variety of cultural communities live together, the volunteer learns about social diversity. Moreover, they can exchange with the local inhabitants about teaching methods and share their own experience and ideas to improve the organization of the kindergarten. These different viewpoints represent a wealth for this place and all initiatives are well received. This project is perfect to benefit from the company of children, who always have energy and whose smiles make us happy every day.
How does your work impact on the community?
The support from social organizations and volunteers is fundamental in this neighborhood, mainly because its precarious situation affects families that need to face a lack of infrastructures and serious problems of public sanitation. Indeed, many families live in houses where they have problems with light and where they don't have running water or a drainage system, in an area which has huge weaknesses in terms of sewer systems and road pavements. Also, it is located near a river which is highly contaminated by the chemicals released by nearby factories, and this generates respiratory and gastrointestinal diseases that mainly affect the children. Although faced with this situation, people don't receive help from the government to improve their standards of living that are now disadvantage and harmful to their health. There are some housing construction projects in the works but they are slow-coming and displacing the inhabitants that are the most affected by the contamination of the river. In addition to this precariousness, today, ambulances refuse to come into the area. Therefore, having volunteers coming to help them and wanting to learn from them and share time with them is crucially important for making them visible and appreciated in today’s society.

We have the opportunity for volunteers who have a passion for retail and animals to join the team at our brand new charity shop on George Street in the city centre. About the Role

Your activities could include:
- Assisting and serving customers on the till
- Providing excellent customer service on the shop floor
- Creating attractive displays and assisting with the visual merchandising of the shop
- Receiving donations from the public and promoting our Gift Aid scheme
- Assisting with the processing of donated stock, including sorting, steaming and hanging of items
- Other daily tasks including cleaning, tidying, dusting and hoovering
About You
You will be a motivated and enthusiastic individual with a love for animals. Good communication and customer care skills are key to a successful charity shop so the ability to work as part of a team and with the general public is desirable. There is a manual handling element to the role so this should be considered on application. The hours are flexible although we ask for a regular commitment of a few hours each week.
Full in person training will be provided for donation sorting and retail guidelines, as well as our waste management and recycling processes.
Through advice and support in the community, to rescue, rehabilitation and rehoming at our centre, we positively transform the lives of pets.

This is an exciting opportunity for you to join our experienced and committed Board.
You will join a dedicated and skilled group of Trustees and support the charity through a significant period of growth. Our staff team now includes over 150 skilled and passionate women across our programmes and our 10 womens’ centres in London and the South and East of England.
Time commitment
- Five Board meetings per year (in person in Hammersmith west London), plus membership of at least one board sub-committee (four meetings a year online)
- Ad hoc availability as matters arise (by telephone)
- Participate in one strategy away day each year (on a Saturday, usually held in January)
- Commit to the Board of Trustees for at least three years
- Note - the Chair of the Fundraising, Business Development and Communications Committee will be expected to chair a committee meeting four times a year (online) in addition to the Board meetings
The statutory duties of a trustee
- To ensure the organisation complies with its governing document in the articles of association
- To ensure that the organisation pursues its objectives as defined in its governing document
- To ensure the organisation applies its resources exclusively in pursuance of its objectives - the charity must not spend money on activities which are not included in its own objectives, no matter how charitable and worthwhile those activities are
- To contribute actively to the Board of Trustees' role in giving firm strategic direction to the organisation, setting overall policy, defining goals and setting targets and evaluating performance against agreed targets
- To safeguard the good name and values of the organisation
- To ensure the effective and efficient administration of the organisation
- To ensure the financial stability of the organisation
- To protect and manage the property of the organisation and to ensure the proper investment of the organisation's funds
- To appoint the Chief Executive and monitor their performance
In addition with other trustees to hold the charity in trust for current and future beneficiaries by:
- Ensuring that Advance has a clear vision, mission and strategic direction and is focused on achieving these
- Being responsible for the performance of the charity and for its corporate behaviour; ensuring that the charity complies with all legal and regulatory requirements
- Acting as guardians of the charity’s assets, both tangible and intangible, taking all due care over their security, deployment and proper application
- Ensuring that the charity’s governance is of the highest possible standard
As well as the various statutory duties, any trustee should make full use of any specific skills, knowledge or experience to help the board make good decisions. Our Top Priorities
We are looking for a new Trustee with a veterinary background who can bring a fresh perspective to our board. Working with the Trustee Board and Senior Leadership Team to support with clinical governance, particularly regarding compliance, statutory, legal and regulatory requirements. As a young charity we still need practical, hands-on support from time-to-time from the trustees in their area of expertise while we work to mature into an organisation where the trustees can focus on a purely governance role. Role Description:
The Clinical Governance Trustee will oversee the charity’s clinical governance for the benefit of the animal patient and the client owner. Practical guidance will be provided to enable StreetVet to help all veterinary surgeons and veterinary nurses to understand clinical governance, whether they are in clinical practice, or not.
Role Responsibilities and Duties:
• Play a full and effective role on the Board of Trustees (attend minimum 75% Trustee Board meetings)

Act as a conduit for clinical governance information between the Trustee Board, CEO and Clinical Director.

Meet with Clinical Director quarterly.

Ensure volunteers are familiar and coherent with the Royal College Veterinary Surgeons Clinical Governance Code and VMD requirements.

Keep up to date with Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and new developments relevant to the area of work.

Reflect upon the charity’s performance, making appropriate changes to practice.

Critically analyse the evidence base for procedures used and making appropriate changes to practice.

Reflect upon communication with other members of the StreetVet team and making appropriate changes to practice.

Who we’re looking for - knowledge and experience

A thorough understanding of the veterinary sector.

Knowledge of veterinary care within the charity sector would be beneficial.

Must be a member of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS)

Ability to advise and recommend clinical governance activities and reviews, where necessary, to fulfil the requirements of RCVS code of conduct and VMD requirements.

Input and Time Commitment:

A time commitment of 2-4 hours a month would be expected.

Trustees are expected to be available for regular consultation and input on a range of issues in between meetings, usually via email.

Attend at least one outreach a year.

Attend virtual quarterly board meetings, held on third Tuesday of January, April, July, October at 6pm. Meetings duration approx 1 – 2 hours.

Papers for the meeting are sent the week prior and Trustees are to ensure they have read and understood all the information in advance in order to participate fully.

Attend annual conference – usually 2 days in London.

Attend in-person annual strategic review, usually half a day, in London.

Training will be provided to give a good understanding and acceptance of the legal duties, liabilities and responsibilities of trustees.

999 Club is a charity doing big things with people facing homelessness. For over 30 years, we've provided a safe haven in the heart of Deptford — offering hot meals, showers, practical support, and a pathway out of homelessness for good.
We're now looking for up to three new trustees to help guide our growing organisation as we develop our new 5-year strategy.
We’re especially keen to hear from people with experience in:
· Fundraising – An ability to use your networks or knowledge to champion our cause and unlock new opportunities.
· Charity Finance – provide strategic financial oversight and potentially chair our Finance Committee.
· Property or Facilities Management – Help oversee the management and potential development of our buildings
What to expect:
As a trustee, you’ll gain leadership experience, broaden your network, and play a hands-on role in tackling homelessness and improving the mental wellbeing of our community. This is a voluntary role involving four board meetings a year (a mix of in-person and virtual), plus occasional events, emails, and committee work. Reasonable expenses are covered.

Join our amazing volunteer team to raise awareness of sight loss and RNIB services at local events. You will give talks in person or virtually, sharing your own story to improve understanding of sight loss to local service providers and community groups. You’ll be making a real difference to people living with sight loss by helping to improve accessibility and inclusivity, creating a world without barriers.
What you’ll be doing:
• Giving talks to groups of people to raise awareness of sight loss in your local community by sharing your story to audiences, for example, local businesses, community and voluntary groups.
• Delivering Talks to raise awareness of RNIB services as a trusted source of support for blind and partially sighted people
• Representing RNIB as an Ambassador for the Community Connection service
