The difference you will make to cats and people

Unfortunately, thousands of cats each year are abandoned or have strayed and rely on charities like Cats Protection for help. Becoming a trap, neuter and return (TNR) volunteer is one way you can make a real difference to cats in your local area. Our TNR volunteers help reduce the number of feral cats by raising awareness of our TNR programmes, setting humane traps to safely capture cats, taking them to local vets to be neutered, and hopefully returning them back to their territory. Local TNR programmes are crucial, as feral and abandoned cats present a huge challenge for communities across the UK.

What we need from you

You’ll be:

• Trapping cats using humane methods
• Taking cats to local vets to be neutered 
• Returning cats to their territory or finding a suitable alternative

The role might also include:

• Regular feeding of feral colonies
• Promoting neutering by building relationships with farmers, land owners and local businesses
• Liaising with vets to promote and arrange neutering 

Time expectation 

This is a flexible role and the hours will vary depending on the number of cats identified for specific TNR campaigns. Our current TNR volunteers spend about 2 to 3 hours per week in this role which can be shared by more than one volunteer if needed.

A global social enterprise that empowers students to lead local projects, dismantling educational barriers to ensure equitable access to opportunities for all.

Student Network Catalyst (Impact Champions)

Volunteer Role Description (remote, unpaid)

Be at the heart of building a global, student-led movement for educational equity. We are launching 'Impact Champions' - a worldwide network of student societies tackling local education challenges. We need a catalyst to help us find and empower the founding leaders of this network.

In this role, you will:

• Develop creative outreach strategies to find and recruit the most passionate student leaders, starting in South Asia.

• Build and nurture an inspiring online community for our first cohort of leaders, connecting them with each other and our mission.

• Help shape the support system for these new societies, ensuring they have the tools and confidence to create real-world impact.

• Your work will directly lead to the creation of new campus hubs for social change, empowering hundreds of students to become leaders in their own communities.

Weekly Time Commitment

4-6 hours per week

West Cheshire Foodbank was established in 2012 to provide emergency food to people in crisis. We are part of the Trussell network of foodbanks and last financial year we provided food to 14,500 people in the 12 months to March 2025. We can only do this with the commitment of our volunteers, our small, dedicated staff team and the much-valued support of local businesses, organisations and individuals.

We are now looking for two new trustees, with relevant experience, who share our vision for a future without the need for foodbanks. You do not need previous experience as a trustee to apply for these roles.

We welcome applications from people from all backgrounds and experience, particularly those who have lived experience of financial hardship and/or food insecurity. The successful candidates will be provided with an induction, training and support to help establish themselves in their roles.

Our Purpose is

1. to provide relief to individuals and families in crisis in West Cheshire, through the provision of emergency food supplies.
2. to provide practical, mental and spiritual support either directly or by referral to approved partner agencies to enable individuals and families avoid future crises.
3. to raise awareness of the causes of food poverty and to encourage both policy-makers and local people to take action.

Participation Trustee specific responsibilities

• Ensuring WCFB practice and strategic direction is informed by the voices of people with lived experience of food insecurity and financial hardship.
• Support the WCFB strategic lead to develop and implement the Participation Framework, including periodic reviews to assess progress, learning and impact.
• Support all trustees and members of the staff team to take a participatory approach where appropriate and enact the principles of participation.
• Model a participatory way of working to ensure voices of lived experience are amplified and help inform and influence key decisions at Board level.
• Ensure trustees are informed of the impact of national and local policy changes for people using WCFB with implications for service delivery and lobbying.
• Willingness to share your experience of food insecurity and/or financial hardship, whilst recognising that your experience cannot represent a whole community.

General responsibilities of all WCFB Trustees 

• Work alongside the Treasurer and the trustee board to ensure WCFB’s financial dealings are systematically accounted for and on time, independently examined (on income over £25k) and made publicly available as necessary.
• Ensure WCFB is accountable, actively complying with statutory accounting and charity law reporting requirements.
• Ensure that all charitable activities undertaken by WCFB are compliant with its charitable objectives as set out in its governing document.
• Ensure appropriate financial plans are in place for future budget allocations as well as looking after contractual agreements with external partners that award money for core costs and additional projects.
• Understand and commit to WCFB’s strategic direction and mission
• Contribute to the development and review of WCFB’s strategic plan, ensuring it aligns with the needs of people struggling to afford the essentials.
• Help promote the organisation to a wider audience of potential funders, partners and people experiencing financial hardship and food insecurity.
• Ensure WCFB has appropriate procedures in place to comply with current legislation and good practice including: employment, health and safety, equal opportunities, safeguarding & GDPR compliance/data protection etc.
• Act with reasonable care and skill, giving time, thought and energy to fulfil your role.
• To serve as an additional promoter of the food bank in the community.
• Attend trustee meetings and produce feedback and reports as necessary.
• Ensure decisions are informed by people experiencing financial hardship by working in a participatory and inclusive way at board level.
• Demonstrate empathy and a non-judgemental attitude.

• Has knowledge of the wider social issues associated with food insecurity and financial hardship
• Has knowledge of charitable law and funding or is willing to develop this
• Is friendly and approachable, able to communicate with people from a wide range of backgrounds
• Is willing to listen to other perspectives and give others the space to share their knowledge and experience
• Has a knowledge of, and commitment to, the work of WCFB
• Is willing to actively participate in discussions concerning needs of the foodbank’s beneficiaries, staff, and the trustee board
• Will act in the best interest of the charity
• Demonstrates sound, independent, judgement and the ability to think creatively
• Works effectively as a team member and demonstrates a willingness to learn and develop

FareShare Greater Manchester is looking for volunteer Driver's Assistants to join our busy friendly delivery team with redistributing tonnes of surplus food a month to charities and community initiatives across Greater Manchester.

FareShare is a national charity fighting food poverty and global warming by tackling food surplus. We source overstocked food from retailers and manufacturers and engage many volunteers to help re-distribute it to over 220 frontline charities and community groups across Greater Manchester. These groups, in turn, provide meals to vulnerable people experiencing food poverty, individuals who are homeless, families, and people who are unemployed or socially isolated. This food would otherwise have gone to waste, so we are simultaneously supporting people in need and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Key responsibilities

Working closely with the driver of a temperature-controlled 3.5 tonne Mercedes Sprinter van to deliver surplus food orders to the premises of the benevolent projects we support. 

Loading and unloading the vehicle and carrying out a range of tasks, from basic vehicle checks to delivery administration.

The required skills and attributes are:

• Reliability and ability to commit to pre-agreed volunteer shifts (ESSENTIAL)

• Physical fitness, to take on moving and handling of food orders

• Ability to follow procedures and instructions

• Good verbal communication skills

• Interest in the work of FareShare Greater Manchester and our values

• High respect for Health & Safety procedures and standards

Our operating hours are Monday - Friday, 8:30am to 4:30pm. 

Driver and Driver’s Assistant shifts begin at 8:30am. 

We welcome volunteers who can commit to one day a week. 

The days and rota hours of volunteering are agreed around your availability.

You must be resident in the UK and living in Greater Manchester, or within easy commuting distance of our base, in order to volunteer with us. There are no exceptions to this rule. This is because we require volunteers to be able to reliably commit to regular shifts for some of our roles. We are unable to offer sponsorship for overseas applicants.

Café VI is an inclusive and accessible space, in line with RNIB Scotland’s mission to support people with sight loss and promote a sense of community in everyday life. The café aims to provide a welcoming environment for the local community and to help raise awareness of sight loss through its design and operation.

The café is staffed by a team of dedicated volunteers, including both sighted and partially sighted individuals, working together to deliver friendly service and foster inclusion. We are looking for friendly and enthusiastic volunteers to assist in the running of the café and drop in centre for blind and partially sighted people. We require help in the kitchen, preparing food, cleaning and waiting on tables and assisting community members by chatting with them, sighted guiding and assisting members to take part in activities.

A passion for cooking is desirable but not essential. Experience in cash handling and how to use a cash register would be advantageous. Our aim is to move to a contactless process but we're not at that point yet.

The café is open on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 11am until 3pm.
