What is a Training Coordinator?

There are SSAFA branches throughout the UK and overseas. Each one has a Training Coordinator to make sure that all volunteers get all the training they need for their role and that training events are organised and run for the branch. This is a key role involving administration and coordinating people.

Why do we need you?

We’ve been supporting the Armed Forces community for more than 130 years. Our clients come from all backgrounds and age groups. To offer the best possible service to our clients SSAFA volunteers need training appropriate to their role. It’s important that we keep records of all the training completed by volunteers and provide local training to meet their needs, whilst also being interesting, fun and varied. We’d love to hear from you if think you could help with this important role.

When would you be needed and where would you be based?

As part of your local branch you might have access to an office, but many volunteers are based at home. The role would suit someone looking to offer a regular commitment to the branch but days and times could vary to suit you.

What would you be doing?

• Coordinating induction and training for new volunteers
• Completing the admin needed for new volunteer to attend local and national training
• Running interesting and relevant annual branch training days (minimum of one per year)
• Maintaining an accurate list of all volunteers and the dates when training was completed
• Working with the Regional Trainer, branch volunteers and the Learning and Development team to identify local training needs and arrange for the required courses to be delivered
• Supporting and encouraging any volunteers facing barriers to completing their training
• Providing reports to the local SSAFA branch and to SSAFA’s Central Office
• Being a positive ambassador for SSAFA remembering that anyone you meet could be a potential client, volunteer or fundraiser
• Volunteering within the standards and values of SSAFA including observing our policies such as the Volunteering policy and data protection policy (these will be covered in your training and local induction.)

About this opportunity
We are looking to recruit a Finance Volunteer for our Orkney Group. As a Finance Volunteer, you would be joining a coordinating team of volunteers to plan and deliver services and activities to support people locally.

You will maintain and approve income and expenditure records and explain financial information clearly to other group members. You would ensure our financial requirements and policies are followed, and that money is spent in a cost effective manner.

Our retail stores are the face of our charity on the high-street and in local communities. We have loads of amazing stock donated to us every week, and this all needs to be sorted, tagged and put on the shop-floor for sale!

Making sure our shops look fantastic is another task you can get involved with. You may also be required to help out on the till too, but we will show you how that works during your time volunteering with us. We value the contribution of everyone who supports Barnardo’s.

• Acting as a marshal at a public event e.g. handing out water to runners, supervising parking etc.

Our current volunteer treasurers usually spend between 2 to 4 hours per week in this role. More hours may be required at certain times, such as towards the end of the financial year but support is always available.

The Children’s Book Project is a grassroots charity, powered by volunteers at every stage of what we do. At our Book Sorting Hub at Seagulls LS11 9UD we would love you to join us as a Volunteer Coordinator, helping to oversee our regular book sorting events which take place during term time.

We are a very friendly bunch and you will be working as part of a small team working with our corporate groups. We try to give each group of volunteers the fullest insight into our work and so during the course of their time with us they will quality control, organise, sort and box books for delivery to schools ready to gift to children. Your role will be to lead them in these tasks to help them understand the value of their contribution and to help the day run smoothly.

The role

On any typical day with us this role might include:

Helping to set up for the day

Instructing small teams of volunteers how to check, sort or box books

Organising aspects of the day, for example having oversight of

donation packing requirements and ensuring these are met

Who are we looking for?

Absolutely anyone can enjoy this role with us! You might have an interest in our aims, in children's books or in volunteering within your Local community. We are creating and launching a brand new youth work charity across London called Urban Youth and we need volunteers who can assist us in our set up phase getting us ready for launch.

We are especially interested in volunteers with experience in any of the following areas and more; Fundraising, Finance, Marketing and Communications, HR and Volunteering Management, Youth Work, Graphic Design, Safeguarding, Trustees, Management, Admin, Operations and more!

Urban Youth, a brand-new, vibrant youth work charity, and is on a mission to create a positive, inclusive community for young Londoners. We're seeking dedicated Volunteers to help us get set up and ready to launch and provide positive and engaging youth work activities for young people that effectively run, empowering young people across the city.
