At Acorns we provide care and support for life limited or life threatened children and their families. We are a charity, and our fundraising is vital to enable us to continue providing care and support to the children: it costs around £11 million a year to run our care services.

Volunteering for Sense

Sense is a leading disability charity with extensive knowledge and expertise in delivering personalised, creative and flexible support for disabled people with complex needs. Our tailored approach ensures that every person is empowered to live fully at every stage of life.

What your role will involve

You’ll get the opportunity to get involved in a wide range of activities, including:

If you’re interested in taking on additional responsibilities, you can train to become a Key Volunteer, helping the shop manager by:

• Helping supervise the shop and other volunteers.
• Supporting the shop manager to make sure customers have a great experience.
• Opening and closing the shop when needed.
• Cashing up at the end of the day.

About the Role: 
We are seeking a proactive and committed Volunteer Administrative Assistant to help strengthen our internal structure and increase our impact. This role is crucial for ensuring our data, records, and institutional memory are well-organised, allowing us to focus on our core mission.

Key Functions will include:

• Database Management: Organise and update the database of attendees and participants for training and events.
• Funding Records: Create and maintain a database of potential funding entities.
• Archiving & Digitisation: Systematically classify and digitise our institutional photographic and documentary archives.
• Institutional Memory: Support the overall systematisation and documentation of institutional and project memory.

Your Commitment:

• Hours: 6 to 8 hours per week (flexible).
• Duration: 3 months (with the possibility of extension).

We are looking to recruit a Lead Support Volunteer for the Stratford-upon-Avon and District Group. As a Lead Support Volunteer, you will be coordinating the support team, representing the needs of people affected by MS and our services and collate information about relevant local organisations. Do you live in Wales and want to gain valuable skills, have new experiences, and support vulnerable people? We are offering 1 young person aged 18–25 the opportunity to volunteer with the Portuguese Red Cross in Guimarães, Portugal.

The Portuguese Red Cross in Guimarães supports the local community through a wide range of voluntary activities focused on social inclusion, education, health, and youth engagement.

Volunteers will be involved in several impactful projects, including:

• Supporting elderly people through digital inclusion and companionship
• Promoting healthy lifestyles and safety awareness among children and teenagers
• Assisting in shelters for homeless individuals and long-term care patients
• Organising creative and educational activities in schools, hospitals, and foster homes
• Helping with social media, fundraising, and community events.

Volunteers will stay in a shared house near the city centre, just a short walk from the Red Cross headquarters. The house includes shared bedrooms, a kitchen, living room, bathrooms, and a terrace. Volunteering hours will not exceed 35 hours per week, and volunteers are entitled to two consecutive days of rest. While most weekends are free, occasional weekend activities may take place.

This is a fantastic opportunity to explore your interests, develop new skills, and make a difference in a vibrant and historic city. Your letters will cheer someone up and establish a trusting, supportive relationship with a client who might be lonely or socially isolated.

What tasks can this role include (some or all of the following):

• Writing letters to clients
• Building trust and companionship with a client through correspondence. Omega befriends a variety of people including: caregivers, the lonely, isolated or people with ill-health.
• Liaising with the Letterbox Team by email or post.
• Respecting service standards, appropriate boundaries and recognising the policies and procedures that are necessary when befriending adults at risk.
• Making suggestions to help us improve the service we provide to clients and Volunteer Pen pal Writers.

About Us

The Muslim Lived Experience Network is a lived experience-led organisation committed to supporting individuals experiencing mental health challenges. We offer faith-informed peer support interventions, lived experience-related workshops and events, Islamic talks on mental health related topics, hospital ‘Muslim Faith Kits’, training, consultation, ad hoc support and signposting.

Role Purpose

We are seeking a highly organised and mission-driven Volunteer Operations Lead to join our team and support and streamline our internal operations. You’ll help build and maintain the organisational backbone of our CIC by coordinating people, processes and systems. Pelican Parcels takes pre-loved and new item donations for babies and children up to age 12 and redistributes these to families facing financial hardship via various existing family services in Brighton & Hove and Sussex.

We are the only baby bank in Brighton and Hove!

We are looking for volunteers who are passionate about wanting to help local families. Our warehouse hours are from Monday to Thursday, 10am till 2pm.

Volunteer tasks vary but may include:

• Quality checking clothing, bedlinen, toys, books and other donations.
• Cleaning and safety checking prams, beds and highchairs.
• Greeting people bringing their donations and family service staff when they come to collect an order during course of duties.

Our next warehouse tour and volunteer inductions are on Monday 13th October or Monday 17th November. The training programme will then run on Mondays for four weeks with the option to switch to another day on completion. Please get in touch for more info.

Practical considerations

Our address is Units 1 & 2, Manor Industrial Estate, Newtown Road, Hove, BN3 7BA. We are close to Hove Station and other public transport. There is also free parking locally.

Our hours are 10am till 2pm from Monday to Thursday. We ask that volunteers give at least 2 hours a week during these hours.

We require our volunteers to have a reasonable level of fitness. Occasionally there are heavy bags to carry and other items such as beds and mattresses. This is for when we bring items out to our referral partners, when they collect these for the families they support, and when we bring donations in. We use step ladders to reach items that are on high shelves. There are online safety courses that all our volunteers need to undertake but if any of our volunteers have any prior injuries or medical conditions that prevent them from undertaking certain tasks then they can be excused from these particular tasks.

We provide basic DBS check for volunteers, otherwise we require volunteers to bring in their existing DBS certificates. We do not work directly with the families we support.
