We are Alex, The Leukodystrophy Charity (Alex TLC).

Alex TLC is a trusted and experienced organisation offering support and information for all those affected by a genetic leukodystrophy. Formerly ALD Life, an internationally recognised centre of excellence for people affected by adrenoleukodystrophy and adrenomyeloneuropathy, the charity was established in 2004.

Due to popular demand, we extended our services to support all leukodystrophies in 2019 and became Alex, The Leukodystrophy Charity.

Like many other small charities, we have grown organically from an informal support group to the recognised voice for adrenoleukodystrophy patients and their families. Our charitable work is supported by our chain of five charity shops across south east London.

With scant resources we are always in need of trustworthy and reliable volunteers to assist retail staff.

Since launching in March 2016 we have worked with over 10,000 young people across the UK, delivering fun, engaging and dynamic workshops and programmes to inspire young people to become the best version of themselves. Trustee Duties and Responsibilities

• Support and provide advice on 2-3 Degrees Legacy CIO’s purpose, vision, goals and activities. 
• Approve operational strategies and policies, and monitor and evaluate their implementation.
• Oversee 2-3 Degrees Legacy CIO’s financial plans and budgets and monitor and evaluate progress. 
• Ensure the effective and efficient administration of the organisation.
  • Contribute to regular reviews of 2-3 Degrees Legacy CIO’s own governance. 
  • Attend Board meetings, adequately prepared to contribute to discussions.
• Ensure that key risks are being identified, monitored and controlled effectively.
• Harness personal and professional networks to support our fundraising strategy.
• Keep abreast of changes in 2-3 Degrees Legacy CIO’s operating environment.
• Use independent judgement, acting legally and in good faith to promote and protect 2-3 Degrees Legacy CIO’s interests, to the exclusion of their own personal and/or any third party interests.

Support

• 2-3 Degrees Legacy CIO is committed to developing and supporting our Trustees throughout their time on the Board, from initial induction to training and mentoring.

Time commitment

• Trustees are volunteers. You should be able to commit at least half day a month (4 hours) to support the work of the charity. This will include keeping abreast of the work of the charity through reading staff reports and attending Trustee Board meetings four times a year, responding to emails and providing advice and support to staff as necessary. In addition, you should be able to attend at least one full Board Development Day per year.

• Alongside this, Trustees are expected to have a passion for the 2-3 Degrees mission and engaging with young people, this should be reflected (but not limited to) attending a minimum of 2 workshops per year to stay engaged with the impact of the organisation and its key events. 

Term of office

• Trustees are appointed for a three-year term of office.

About Children With Voices

Children With Voices (CWV) is a grassroots non-profit organisation dedicated to improving

the lives of children and families through community-driven programs. We run holiday clubs,

healthy lifestyle education, and intervention projects for children aged 5–11 to combat

childhood obesity, antisocial behaviour, and gang involvement.

In the last year, 3,855 women and children were supported by Hestia to recover from domestic abuse.

Anyone can experience domestic abuse, at any point in their life, regardless of their background, age, gender, ethnicity or sexual orientation. However, it is a gendered crime, with women being three times more likely to be victims.

We help people understand what domestic abuse is and develop the knowledge, skills and tools they need to protect themselves, stay safe and leave a relationship, if and when they’re ready to do so.

• To support children who are not confident with numeracy to develop these skills through tutoring sessions over a video call

Peace Brigades International (PBI) is an international NGO with over 40 years’ experience providing life-saving protection and support to hundreds of brave human rights defenders who face reprisals because of their activism for social justice. PBI’s trademark protective accompaniment teams in Colombia, Honduras, Guatemala, Mexico, Nicaragua, Indonesia, Kenya and Nepal are supported by PBI’s International Headquarters in Brussels, and offices elsewhere in the world, such as our UK section, which carries out high-level advocacy for improved governmental and other support for human rights defenders, as well as stronger regulation of transnational business behaviour.

A 2.5 month volunteer placement where the selected candidate will not only play a vital role in upcoming projects but also harness their skills in advocacy, communications and administration/logistics. They will deepen their understanding and knowledge of the UK environment, gaining insights into UK politics, international human rights, legal frameworks, advocacy strategies, and communication tactics.

Stipend Information

Our team provide support in 31 refuges across 11 London Boroughs. Last year Hestia supported 4,000 people to recover from the trauma of domestic abuse.

Anyone can be affected by domestic abuse, regardless of gender, age, race, or identity. Domestic abuse is not always physical violence, and it can take many forms including emotional, sexual abuse, coercive and controlling behaviour.

1 in 3 women and 1 in 7 men are affected by domestic abuse.

We are looking for Volunteer Advocates to support our Advocacy Service in the Boroughs of Wandsworth and Richmond. You will be based at home, but this role could also involve some travel within the Wandsworth and Richmond boroughs.

Wandsworth & Richmond Advocacy Services offers a range of statutory and non-statutory advocacy services. As a volunteer, you will be supporting our delivery of community advocacy for people who are 18+ and live in Wandsworth & Richmond Boroughs. You will be supporting a range of people, including those with learning, physical, and sensory disabilities as well as mental illness, who need support with a health and social care issue and are not eligible for a statutory service. Volunteer Shop Assistants carry out a wide range of tasks in their roles. You might be sorting and pricing stock, engaging with customers, ringing items through the till, keeping our shop floor full and organised or supporting with raffle ticket sales and promoting gift aid.

How would you be supported in this role?

When you begin your role, you will receive a mix of e-learning and in-person training to get you started. Throughout the role, you will receive refresher training as required as well as ongoing support, reimbursement for role-related expenses and the opportunity to further shape the volunteering you do.
